Recalls and owner complaints reported to NHTSA

What owners should know

Covers 2023–2026 · 6.7L Power Stroke diesel (standard and high output), 7.3L V8 and 6.8L V8 gas · Updated 2026-10-01

The current Super Duty was redesigned for 2023. Engines are the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel (standard and high output), the 7.3L V8 gas and the new 6.8L V8 gas, all with the 10-speed automatic.

These trucks are new, so there isn't much owner history yet. We counted 212 owner complaints filed with NHTSA so far, and 24 recalls across these years. Many of these trucks are still under factory warranty, which makes recalls and warranty coverage the most important things to check.

At a glance

  • Recalls are the main story. Rear axle shafts, a driveshaft weld, steering column parts and many camera and software issues.
  • Owner complaints so far mostly mention brakes (45), the transmission (21) and electrical or screen problems (19).
  • Ask about the remaining factory warranty and make sure it transfers to you.

Recalls to check

  • Rear axle shaft may break on some 2023 trucks with single rear wheels (recall 23V595000) and some 2026 trucks (recall 25V866000). A broken axle shaft can cause loss of drive power or let the truck roll while in Park.
  • Driveshaft friction weld may fail on some 2025–2026 trucks (recall 26V119000).
  • Steering column bolts and the steering wheel clock spring on some 2023 trucks (recalls 23V344000 and 23V847000).
  • Brake booster pushrod clip on some 2025 trucks (recall 25V401000).
  • Diesel fuel return line connectors that can crack and leak (recall 25V306000).
  • Many camera, screen and software recalls, including some for repairs done incorrectly the first time.

What owners report

Complaints so far are spread out, without one dominant problem. Brakes, transmission behavior, electrical glitches and screen problems come up most. Owners of the new 6.8L gas engine mostly comment on fuel economy rather than failures. Diesel owners should know these trucks still use the same type of high-pressure fuel pump (CP4) as earlier 6.7L trucks, so fuel quality and fuel filter changes still matter.

  • Electrical System: Integrated Trailer Brake Control

    Feb 2026 · #26V104000

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2026 F-150, 2022-2026 F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, F-550 SD, Maverick, 2024-2026 Ranger, 2023-2026 F-600 SD, 2022-2027 Lincoln Navigator, Expedition, and 2026 E-Transit vehicles. When towing a trailer, the integrated trailer module (ITRM) may lose communication with the vehicle, possibly causing a loss of brake and turn signal lights, or a loss of brake function. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, " Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

    Risk and fix

Risk: Trailer lights or brakes that do not function can reduce the driver’s ability to control the trailer and decrease the trailers visibility to other road users, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: The integrated trailer module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 25, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26C10. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning March 17, 2026.

I purchased 2, 2024 F350 Super Duty's for our Highway Dept. The camera systems on both trucks failed. This includes the backup camera and forward facing camera. I found a recall notice (24S66) for this exact problem affecting 2024 F350's. I brought mine to the dealership and was informed that my VIN was not included in the recall. The repair would cost $1,200. A check of the second trucks VIN was not included either. I will be filing another report for that truck as well. When vehicle was in Reverse parked in garage with garage door open, I removed my seatbelt and opened the door to exit vehicle believing it was actually in Park. The vehicle rolled backwards at idle speed as I tried to get back in to apply the foot brake. The open drivers door collided with the garage wall and stopped the vehicle before I could stop it with the brakes. A body shop manager doing an in home estimate told me that a 2024 F 350 has an Automatic Return to Park shift feature that should have immediately moved the column mounted shift to Park and applied the emergency brake. This feature was apparently installed in all Super Duty trucks in 2023 when the electric column shifter was added. It did neither of these things and collided with the wall damaging the wall and drivers door. I believe this is a defect in a safety critical system and filed a complaint with the Ford Customer Service Concerns department. They told me they would escalate to their general counsel but if I filed an insurance claim, that the complaint would no longer be active. No lawyer I contacted would take my case because a significant personal injury did not occur. I was advised to file insurance claim for both home and property policies.

Vehicle has gone into LIMP mode multiple times. Was driving the vehicle and the check engine light went on and the vehicle reduced its speed to 25 mph. This is very dangerous because the traffic was moving at 70 mph and could have rear ended me. The F350 has been at the dealership since March 18. The dealer has diagnosed it but claim they cannot get the part they need to fix it. They insist I return the loaner and drive the F350 home with the problem.

The vehicle part ML3Z-16500A18-E, or rear panoramic sunroof panel, spontaneously shattered while the vehicle was parked and turned off. I was not driving, and nothing impacted the vehicle. There were no signs of attempted break-in, falling debris, or vandalism, and there was no object inside or around the vehicle that could have caused the breakage. With this being tempered glass, it fragmented violently. This sudden failure created a significant safety hazard, as shattered glass covered the interior. If occupants had been inside, this could have caused serious injury from falling glass. If this unexpected failure occurred while the vehicle was in motion or at speed, it could result in distraction, loss of control, and/or a potential collision. The dealer had inspected the vehicle in person and was unable to determine the reason for the failure. The manufacturer has been contacted, but they do not accept responsibility and have not provided a cause for the failure. The issue has not been reproduced, but spontaneous panoramic sunroof glass failure appears to be a known concern on other Ford models. The vehicle had no warning messages, noises, cracking, leaks, or other symptoms prior to the failure. There were no safety alerts or warnings on the dash. The sunroof glass failed without any prior indication.

In tow/haul mode on even a slight downgrade while towing a 9000lb fifth wheel camper even the slightest application of brakes causes an extreme downshift from 10th to 4th at highway speeds of 60+ mph revving the engine to over 5000rpms and causing slight rear wheel lockup on dry roads. The 10 speed transmission is this truck shifts horribly. It will stall in intersections as it works its way thru 3 or 4 gears shifting away while refusing to move faster than a crawl. It has occasionally jerked harshly into 2nd gear at ONE(1) mile per hour. When you are coasting towards a traffic light it will jerk violently downshifting from 4th to 3rd. That downshift feels like the rear brakes are dragging. All of these behaviors occur at any point in city driving, making it risky to make a left turn in traffic and making passengers uncomfortable when riding, at any time they can be jerked any which way while riding in the truck. To make matters worse, the traffic warning lights on the mirrors will lite and alert occasionally when there is no traffic anywhere near the truck. This has happened on remote roads where there are no other vehicles, plants, shrubs or signs anywhere near the roadway. This truck is uncomfortable to drive and feels unsafe. I believe it is all related to the poorly made and engineered transmission.

I purchased this 2024 f350 from Auto Park Ford in Laporte, IN on [XXX] with 94 miles on the truck. It was shipped directly to me and arrived July 21st 2025. Upon taking delivery there were many safety faults present once I drove the vehicle that included loss of power, the vehicle randomly braking by itself, adaptive cruise control faults, cross traffic faults, blind spot warning faults, forward collision faults, rear cross traffic faults, rusty engine components as well as other rusty components on the vehicle. These safety defects in manufacturing materials, workmanship, improper storage by the selling dealer, and selling of a defective vehicle to me has put myself and my family in an unsafe vehicle. The vehicle has been at the local Ford service center since July 22nd 2025 with the service department stating there is no fix for these issues and is a known issue by Ford. My safety and my family's safety has been put at risk by the vehicle's loss of power, random braking applications, and rusty engine components. These issues were confirmed by Pierre Ford of Lynnwood service department. The repair report states "VERIFIED WARNING FAULTS PRESENT. SELF TEST NUMEROUS DTC'S PRESENT IN ABS MOD. C0051 PPT Q Q1 YES, Q2 NO YO23A FOUND SSM 53892 STIIDING THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE WITH NO FIX CURRENTLY. UPDATED ABS MODULE AND AWD MODULE ROAD TESTED DTC'S CAME BACK". the service center informed me that I could come pick up the truck and there may be a fix in the future. I asked them to keep the truck as it's a major safety concern for myself and my family to operate this truck with all the safety faults, loss of power, random braking, etc. The vehicle will have been at the dealer 21 days by Monday 8/11/25. I have contacted Ford about this issue and requested a buyback, vehicle replacement, a fix, and have gotten no where. I have submitted a lemon law buy back claim because of the many safety issues, but they have put my claim on pause for an addition 30 days. It is hard to explain to people and some people might not fully understand what they are even feeling if they are not in tune to how the steering system works normally vs with some type of assist. I don't use the lane keeping assist (button on steering wheel) because it is not comfortable for me where the truck wants to be in relation to the lane. But even with lane keep assist off i could feel different amounts of "intervention" occurring. First i described it as the input force required to turn the steering wheel either direction was different. Like it would be super easy to turn right but took lots of effort to turn left. So my dealer also replaced the steering assist motor. Then i felt like the issue just inverted and was easy to turn left but hard to turn right. But as i have already put almost 7,000 miles on it i have become more in tune to what is happening. It is most affected on roads with a high crown and it is attempting to counteract the crown in the road but is not quick with making adjustments so if you are in the far left lane with a crown to the left and you change lanes to the center lane with no crown it will have a heavy pull to the right for about 30 seconds or more then can sometimes level itself back out but it is super tiring to drive this truck on the road for long periods of time. But yesterday i had a breakthrough. I went into the center radio screen under the Driver Assistance, In Pre-Collision Assist and turned off the Evasive Steering Assist. BAM FIXED There is no pulling or pushing and the input force required to turn left and right is equal. So this did at least confirm the issue is some level of intervention is happening that should not be.

I own the 2024 f350 dually truck and regularly tow heavy trailers for commercial transport under DOT regulations. I have experienced repeated intermittent failures involving the truck’s trailer brake and trailer lighting system. While towing, the truck intermittently displays warning messages on the dashboard such as “Trailer Brake Module Fault” and “Trailer Light Module Fault.” When this occurs, the trailer’s right rear brake light stops functioning, and at times the trailer braking system stops working entirely. This issue occurs sporadically and without warning. The trailer may function normally at the start of a trip and then lose lighting or braking capability during operation. One notable pattern is that when I shut the truck off and restart it, the faults clear and the trailer brakes and lights begin working again. This suggests the issue may be related to the truck’s trailer brake or trailer lighting control module resetting rather than a defect in the trailer itself. Because of the repeated failures, I inspected and repaired my trailer multiple times. I have: Replaced the affected trailer light Inspected and checked all trailer wiring and connectors Verified the trailer braking system and wiring integrity Despite these steps, the problem continues to occur. I have taken the truck to a Ford dealership multiple times, and they have stated the issue is with the trailer. However, the trailer has been inspected and repaired, and the problem still persists. I recently became aware of a recall affecting Ford trucks related to the trailer brake control module and trailer lighting system, which appears to mirror the exact symptoms I am experiencing. This issue presents a serious safety hazard. When the malfunction occurs: Trailer brake lights may not function properly Trailer brakes may stop working Drivers behind me may not be aware the vehicle is slowing or stopping Because I regularly tow heavy trailers, loss of trailer braking and lighting creates a significant

It has been looked at by the dealership 3 times and they were unable to locate issue as stated on service receipt. No warnings prior and truck was purchased 3/2025 and the issue started 1/26 and still continues.

The truck has a clunk in the steering when pulling trailers and does not do this when not laden. The vehicle has only 2,480 miles on it. I was told at the dealership that this will not be fixed because they are not able to replicate the issue. There is a TSB on the issue: SSM 53169 2023-2024 F-Super Duty - Popping/Thumping/Clunking/Knocking Noise From The Steering Column - Built On Or Before 12-Jul-2024 The vehicle was built prior to 12-Jul-2024.

Steering Wheel Misalignment, 2024 Ford F-350 Platinum (VIN: [XXX] ) I am submitting a safety-related defect complaint involving a visibly off-center steering wheel in my 2024 Ford F-350 Platinum. The steering wheel remains misaligned to the left when the vehicle is traveling straight, impacting driver perception, confidence, and potentially overall safety. In January 2025, the dealership performed a front-end alignment in response to my concern, acknowledging it as a deviation from acceptable standards. However, when the issue persisted, Ford reversed course and claimed the off-center wheel was an intentional design feature called “Clear Vision,” supposedly meant to improve gauge visibility and compensate for road crown. This “feature” is not documented in any Ford manuals, bulletins, training, or consumer-facing materials. Ford’s April 2025 written response to BBB Autoline leaned on this “Clear Vision” claim, but during a May 2025 arbitration hearing, Ford’s representative admitted a repair was attempted to address the issue. These contradictory statements raise questions about Ford’s transparency and accountability. There is no engineering justification for a visibly misaligned steering wheel to be presented as a feature, especially in a $95,000 vehicle. I urge NHTSA to investigate whether Ford is misusing this terminology to conceal defects in its 2024 Super Duty platform, and whether this violates federal safety or design standards. The contact owned a 2024 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the steering wheel seized, causing the front passenger side to crash into the front driver side of a commercial vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle ricocheted and rolled over to the driver's side, and did a 180 turn where the tires came to a stop at the bottom of a hill; however, there was no property damage. The air bags deployed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where the vehicle was deemed totaled due to severe front tire damage. The vehicle was then towed to a salvage lot, where it was informed that the link to the ABS unit failed and there was a connectivity issue with the steering module that could have possibly caused the failure. A police report was filed. Due to the impact, the contact's wife broke her right wrist and immediately sought medical attention; the contact's wife was seated on the front passenger side. No one outside of the vehicle was injured. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

No occupants of the vehicle came in contact with glass prior to shattering. The sunroof operation itself, or components adjacent to the sunroof, (e.g. the sunroof shade cover) were not in use during the failure. The glass shattered outwards away form the vehicle causing most of the glass to land in the truck bed, rough a third rained down inside the vehicle onto the occupants. The safety hazard is that glass shards fell down on occupants at enhanced by road speed. There was no way to avoid the shattering. There was no previous indication of wear of stress on the glass in previous weeks or moments prior to the explosion. There was a known class action lawsuit (dismissed) concerning the Ford Panoramic sunroofs spontaneously failing. Beaty v. Ford Motor Company. No official has inspected the vehicle since the failure. An insurance claim was not filed, it was cheaper to perform the repair myself. The repair cost 770 in parts 120 in shipping fees, 2 hours of labor to clean glass and 30 minutes to install the new panel.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Lane Keeping Assistance. It is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? When Lane Keeping Assistance is engaged the truck steers the truck off-center to the right, uncomfortably to the right. At times it's riding the right lane line, but maintains at least twice as much distance on the left as the right and up to no distance on the right. While the system is engaged, I am continually fighting the steering input to correct it to the left. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I reported the problem to MacHaik Ford, the one service advisor I spoke had not heard of the issue. Forums online indicate the problem is present on 2024 models but not prior to 2024; other owners of 2024 SuperDuty trucks have commented that their vehicle also over-corrects to the right. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. I reported the issue to Ford Customer Service over the phone today (2nd day of ownership), have not heard back from Ford yet. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning signals.

Within the first 200 miles of ownership i noticed the truck pulls right and is difficult to steer left with the lane assist control switched off. The dealership i bought it from has replaced the electric motor which controls the lane assist and has performed 2 alignments. The dealership stated Ford instructed them to change the steering motor, the condition still exists. The dealership then stated other trucks on their lot act the same way and according to Ford if more then 2 trucks act this way it is a condition of the truck's design. I have request a Ford engineer update the software on the truck because older models do not act this way. I am concerned the situation can worsen and the truck can drive off the road or the electric motor will over heat from trying to correct all the time. The truck has been at the dealership since 6/28/2024.

Here’s a clean, strong NHTSA synopsis that sticks to their rules (no personal info, clear safety framing, and specific details): --- **What happened:** The heated seat system in a 2024 Ford F-350 Super Duty Platinum exhibited excessive and uneven heat output in both the driver and passenger seats. While in use, the seat heaters produced a burning sensation at the skin level for both occupants, requiring the heaters to be turned off to avoid injury. The condition appears to involve the seat heating element and/or temperature regulation system. During a subsequent seat cover replacement, the heating element was exposed and showed visible signs of localized overheating, including distinct heat concentration patterns and degradation of the surrounding foam material. The component is available for inspection upon request. This condition presents a safety risk due to the potential for skin burns during normal operation. It also raises concern about possible overheating of seat materials if the system remains active for extended periods, such as during remote start or unattended operation, which could increase the risk of material damage or combustion. The issue was experienced multiple times and is not isolated to a single seating position. The problem has been visually confirmed by an installer during disassembly of the seat, though it is unknown if a dealer has formally documented the condition at this time. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior indicators before the excessive heat condition occurred.

New SAFTEY ISSUE  ....  At about 670 miles on the odometer, the cruise control is acting up, Set cruise control to any speed and within less than a minute it jumps up to another value. I.E. set at 45mph, jumps to 61. Set at 50 mph, it jumps to 61. At 70 mph setting it goes to 86mph!.  Replicated this many times today (12/18/2024). It didn't make any difference between Normal, ECO or Tow/HAUL MODES. Testing further demonstrates that the cruise will step up as above after engaging and if you let it run by itself it will make a second jump then a third to 86MPH! Needless to say I didn't check to see what it would do if it hit 86mph!! Not safe to operate. Other than above the cruise had been working fine. BTW, it did matter if lane departure was on or off either as a note. As late as today 12/30/2024 the cruise control continues to act as above. I have not done a factory reset to the sync 4 system either. Will leave that to the dealer. The vehicle is going into the dealer 12/31/2024
