2014 Ford F-350 Super Duty
Recalls and owner complaints reported to NHTSA
Compared with the typical (middle) count of 149 complaints across the 8 model-year 2014 heavy-duty trucks we cover. Best-selling trucks naturally collect more complaints because more of them are on the road.
What owners should know
Covers 2011–2016 · 6.7L Power Stroke diesel and 6.2L V8 gas · Updated 2026-10-01
Most 2011–2016 F-350s have the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel. The F-350 shares its engines, front end and most of its problems with the F-250 of the same years.
We counted 834 owner complaints filed with NHTSA for 2011–2016 F-350s: 726 from 6.7L diesel trucks and 74 from 6.2L gas trucks (identified by VIN). Complaint counts show what owners report most often, not how many trucks have a problem.
At a glance
- Front-end shake ("death wobble") is the most frequently reported problem by far: 4 in 10 diesel complaints (291 of 726).
- The high-pressure fuel pump (CP4.2) is the most expensive known 6.7L failure.
- 2011–2012 trucks have extra early problems: turbochargers, exhaust temperature sensors and NOx sensors.
- The 6.2L gas engine draws far fewer complaints and has a simple, durable reputation.
Front-end shake ("death wobble")
Owners describe a violent shaking of the front end and steering wheel after a bump at highway speed. Ford released a service bulletin in 2011 that added a new steering stabilizer, but owners frequently report that the shake comes back unless worn parts are replaced, especially the track bar and its bushings, plus ball joints and tie rods. Bigger tires and lifts make it more likely.
When buying: have a helper rock the steering wheel with the engine running while you watch the track bar ends for movement. Hit bumps at 50–70 mph on the test drive.
High-pressure fuel pump (CP4.2)
When the 6.7L's Bosch CP4.2 pump fails, it can send metal through the whole fuel system, and the repair often means replacing the pump, injectors, lines and rails. Owners commonly describe bills of $8,000 or more. Failures are commonly linked to water or contamination in the fuel. Ford's 2024 CP4 recall covers 2020–2022 trucks only, not these years.
When buying: ask for fuel filter service records and whether the pump has ever been replaced.
2011–2012 early-production issues
- Turbocharger: early turbos used ceramic bearings that frequently failed; Ford later switched to steel bearings. Ask whether the turbo was replaced.
- Exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensors can cause power loss or shutdowns (26 F-350 complaints). Ford recalled 2011–2015 F-350s with ambulance or fire truck packages for this (recall 15V175000), but not regular pickups.
- NOx sensors (2011): Ford ran a program to replace them on 2011 trucks.
Emissions, cooling and rust
- DEF and NOx sensor problems come up in 34 diesel complaints. Look for exhaust fluid warnings and ask whether the emissions system has been removed ("deleted").
- Radiator leaks and leaks at the upper radiator hose fitting and coolant bottle are commonly reported on 6.7L trucks.
- Check cab corners, rocker panels, wheel arches and cab mounts for rust in salt-belt states.
Maintenance tips for owners
Ford's published intervals for these years (use "severe" if you tow, plow or idle a lot): engine oil every 10,000 miles (5,000 severe), both fuel filters every 22,500 miles (15,000 severe), and transmission fluid every 150,000 miles (50,000 severe). Drain the water separator whenever the dash says "water in fuel."

Common failures & how to fix them
Parts and video buttons search for your 2014 Ford F-350 Super Duty. Always confirm a part fits using your VIN. Brakes, steering, fuel and airbag work affects your safety, so if you're not sure, have a qualified mechanic do it.
Front-end shake (death wobble)
Moderate DIYSigns: Violent shaking of the steering wheel and front end after hitting a bump, usually at 45+ mph. Slowing down hard is often the only way to stop it.
Fix: Find and replace the worn parts, most often the track bar or its bushings, then check ball joints, tie rod ends, the drag link and alignment. A new steering stabilizer alone usually only hides the problem.
High-pressure fuel pump (CP4) failure
Easy DIYSigns: Sudden stalling or no-start, low fuel pressure codes, metal in the fuel filter. Often there's little warning.
Fix: Prevention is the fix you can do: change both fuel filters on schedule, drain the water separator, and buy fuel from busy stations. Some owners add a kit that keeps pump debris away from the injectors. A failed pump usually means a full fuel system replacement at a diesel shop.
6.7L exhaust temperature (EGT) sensor failure
Moderate DIYSigns: Check engine light, reduced power, or the engine shutting down. Most common on 2011–2012 trucks.
Fix: Scan for codes to find which sensor failed and replace it. There are four on the exhaust.
6.7L coolant leaks
Moderate DIYSigns: Low coolant, a sweet smell, dried coolant crust on the upper radiator hose fitting, radiator or coolant bottle.
Fix: Find the source. The upper radiator hose O-ring is a common and simple fix. Radiators and coolant bottles are bigger jobs.
6.7L DEF heater and NOx sensors
Moderate DIYSigns: DEF or exhaust fluid warnings, reduced power, check engine light.
Fix: Scan for codes. Common fixes are a NOx sensor or the DEF heater and pump assembly.

Steering
Dec 2020 · #20E090000Icon Vehicle Dynamics, LLC (Icon) is recalling all 05-UP FSD 2.5 Centerline Stabilizer Kits with part number 65050. The kits were sold as an accessory for certain 2005-2021 Ford F-250 4X4 and F-350 4X4 pickup trucks. The foam ring inside the stabilizer "through shaft" may block the piston ports, possibly causing the steering to lock up.
Risk and fix
Risk: If the steering locks, it can increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: Icon will notify owners, and dealers will install a new shock assembly with a revised foam ring and steel support disc, free of charge. The recall began December 21, 2020. Owners may contact Icon customer service at 1-951-689-4266.

On [XXX] we were traveling westbound on [XXX] from Keenesburg, CO in our 2014 Ford F-350 Super Duty at roughly 75mph. We were in the right lane and went over a bump in the road and as soon as we did, the steering wheel and the entire front end of the truck started shaking violently. We pulled onto the shoulder of the highway to slow down/stop. Once the truck stopped shaking, we pulled back into the right lane from the shoulder and shortly before the [XXX] exit we hit another bump in the road and the steering wheel as well as the front end of the truck began violently shaking. We again moved over to the shoulder of the highway, slowing down until we were at a full stop. At that point we decided we weren't going to go to our destination and exited the highway at the [XXX] exit. *We're not entirely sure what component or system failed but believe it to be related to the steering or suspension and yes it is available for inspection. *Our safety was at risk due to the high rate of speed we were traveling when this happened and without any warning whatsoever. Had we not been able to move onto the shoulder to stop the vehicle, who knows what could've happened. Thankfully, there were not a lot of other vehicles on the road both times this occurred. *We are hesitant to operate the truck so it has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. *Again, we are hesitant to operate the truck so it has not been inspected by anyone yet. *No, there were no warnings at all. I was driving along the freeway at 65 miles as an hour when my car went into a violent death wobble. I thought I might’ve blown a tire or something. I honestly can’t believe I didn’t hit any cars on the freeway while I was pulling off when I slowed down to about 30 miles an hour it stopped, I immediately went to the gas station and could not find anything wrong. I started driving down the side street and it started doing it again at about 50 miles an hour. It was extremely violent and dangerous. There were no warning lights or anything. I’ve looked online and this has been an ongoing problem for Ford trucks. I called the dealer and I’m bringing it in to them tomorrow. They are aware of the problem. How this is not a recall is beyond my imagination. It’s extremely dangerous.

•Between my wife and I driving approximately 65-75 mph on 5-6 different occasions, with an initial complaint to Ford on [XXX], on I-17 in AZ and other AZ highways the steering wheel and the whole truck shook violently during a stretch of bumpy road or after hitting a pothole. Slowing down has been the only way to stop the wobbling and shaking which creates a precarious situation with semi-trucks behind as my wife has experienced. •Today [XXX], I experienced this wobble and noticed some of the vehicles behind me thankfully had slowed down. I felt I was going to lose control of the truck and possibly crash as a result. As I was about to exit the [XXX], I slowed down to approximately 50 mph and the shaking stopped so I continued to proceed north. There is a long strip of bumpy pavement south of [XXX] and the shaking occurred that lasted approximately 10 seconds as I was passing the [XXX] exit. •The problem has been addressed on multiple occasions: Sanderson Ford on 8/13/2020 (vibration felt in steering wheel when going over bumps). Sanderson Ford on 10/28/2020 (rattle noise from right front wheel when pulling trailer). Diesel Doctors on 11/11/2021 (for independent suspension check Sanderson Ford on 12/06/2021 (severe vibration felt when going over a bump at 65-75 mph from front of vehicle). *Sanderson Ford on 1/4/2021 (front sway bar came loose from brackets while driving). Sanderson Ford on 3/4/2021 (vehicle pulls right). *In 2021 my family and I were driving from Colorado back to Phoenix and as we were south on [XXX] from the [XXX] exit I heard a loud metal clanging sound. There were no mechanical issues experienced thank God but we took it in to Sanderson Ford very soon afterwards. Within the past 1-1/2 weeks, the Advance Trac (downhill) light illuminated and we made an appointment with a diesel mechanic. After today's episode, I called Sanderson for and am waiting on a call back from them. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have experienced the "Death Wobble" numerous times. I have spent thousands of dollars since owning the truck chasing whatever we thought might be the issue. Ball joints, steering damper, tie rods/end, track bar, stabilizer bar, tires, the list is long. Stops for a time then starts up again. Death wobble consists of speeds over 60 mph and hitting bump and wheels wobble uncontrollably. This causes immediately slowing down until the wobble stops, however it is a violent shake and can pull the truck. Vehicles behind have no notice at immediate deceleration. Has not happen in the rain thank goodness.

ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS IMMEDIATE HARD BRAKING TO SLOW TO 45 MPH OR LESS. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH HEAVY TRUCKS BEHIND AND BESIDE. I AM SHOCKED THAT NOBODY IS DEAD! MOST RECENT WAS YESTERDAY NORTHBOUND I-5 NORTH OF SEATTLE. HAPPENED SO MANY TIMES I LOST COUNT. EVENTUALLY GAVE UP AND SET CRUISE CONTROL TO 45 MPH IN 56-70 MPH TRAFFIC. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT PRESENTS A VERY REAL THREAT TO LIFE AND SAFETY. PLEASE HELP!

Rear view camera sporadically works. It will stop working while I am backing up. Ford has recalled some VINs for the year, make and model of my vehicle. When I called the dealer thet told me even though the issue I described was what NHTSA was requiring a recall for, my VIN did not qualify. I have also ask my dealer many times to make the repair and they tell they do not have the part and can not repair it. Ford continues to lead the way with recalls and seems to not be worried about me accidentally hitting a car or pedestrian while backing up. Any help you can give me with this issue is much appreciated.

2014 Ford F350 Super Duty Platinum 4x4 Diesel: Steering wheel started with small vibrations (90,000 miles), had Ford tell us that we needed a new track bar and bushing, so replaced it. Still having small vibrations in the 45-60 mph range. Then Ford said tie rod ends could be causing the problem did have some movement in the drag link, so replaced those, still having vibration. Had sound and clunking coming from steering box, so installed new steering box and pitman arm, and the small vibration has morphed into serious death wobble, and the pickup becomes almost uncontrollable until slowing down to under 45mph. Replaced all 4 shocks and the steering stabilizer. Sadly, the Ford dealership doesn't really seem to want to acknowledge there is a problem and work to fix it, and yet a quick internet search becomes extremely distressing quickly. To think, that you (NTSB) and Ford is likely going to wait until there is an accident before owning up to the fact that this is problematic and should be dealt with appropriately. They have offered to replace the steering stabilizer for 2017 or newer, even though they know it affects models as early as 2005. Clearly, neither you (NTSB) or Ford care about the people, it's just all about the dollar and CYA (Cover your [XXX]). On 7/23/23 I experienced the death wobble in my 2014 F350 for at least the fifth time since purchasing the truck 4 years ago. This time was the most violent, scary and dangerous time of all. I was on an interstate, in heavy traffic, traveling at 65 miles per hour. Previous incidents have resulted in repairs to the suspension. Everything from tie rod ends, stabilizers and shocks. This most recent incident required that the steering damper to be replaced. All total, I have spent at least $3,000 in repairs in the last 4 years for this problem alone. Not to mention that I fear for me and my wife’s safety.

While driving 60 mph, in heavy rain, flat roadway the vehicle down shifted from 6th gear to 4th and from 6th gear to 3rd several times. The shift to 3rd from 6th was hard and accompanied by a temporary loss of forward momentum. No check engine light came on. All temperature gauges remained within normal range. The tachometer jumped and fell wildly during each of the events. I pulled off the highway at the next exit, turned off the ignition, and waited a few minutes. I restarted the truck and proceeded without additional problems.

The fuel injection system is the same as Dodge and Chevrolet. I own a 2014 F350 with a 6.7 Diesel. My truck has been broken down for 6 months, after catastrophic failure in the road due to CP4 fuel injection pump. I continue to look for recalls only to find Dodge and Chevrolet who use same injection pump.

I OWN A 2014 F350 DIESEL TRUCK, MY BUDDY OWNS A 2015 F350 DIESEL TRUCK, A MONTH OR SO AGO HE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND HIS TRUCK STALLED/SHUT DOWN ON HIM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD CAUSING HIS STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK UP, HE WAS BARLEY ABLE TO GET IT ONTO THE SHOULDER AND IT LEFT HIM STRANDED SINCE HIS TRUCK WOULDN'T START BACK UP. HE BROUGHT IT TO A SHOP AND COME TO FIND OUT IT WAS HIS HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. FAST FORWARD A LITTLE FURTHER, HE DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT FORD PUT FAULTY FUEL PUMPS ON ALL THEIR DIESEL TRUCKS, THE PUMPS CAN'T HANDLE US DIESEL, IT'S NOT LUBRICATED ENOUGH FOR THE PUMPS, SO THE PUMP DESTROYS ITSELF AND SENDS METAL SHARDS THROUGH THE WHOLE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. SO HE WAS STUCK PAYING A $6,XXX BILL TO GET IT FIXED. FAST FORWARD I FOUND OUT THEY MAKE A 'DISASTER PREVENTION KIT' SO WHEN THE PUMP FAILS THE METAL DOESN'T GET THROUGH THE WHOLE SYSTEM YOU ONLY HAVE TO REPLACE THE PUMP WHICH IS $1,XXX. SO I BOUGHT THE KIT AND HAD IT INSTALLED ON MY TRUCK BUT IT WAS TOO LATE MY SYSTEM GOT WIPED OUT. SO NOW I'M OUT $6,XXX TO GET IT FIXED WHICH I CAN'T AFFORD. FORD WONT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE THERE'S NO RECALL. I'VE DONE MORE RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THE NEW DIESEL TRUCKS FROM FORD STILL HAVE THE SAME FUEL PUMP. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED, IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME TILL OTHER PEOPLE START HAVING FAILURES. I WOULD BE PISSED IF I SPENT $70,XXX ON A TRUCK ONLY TO HAVE TO SPEND MORE TO FIX THE FUEL SYSTEM. NOBODY IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUES YET BUT SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT IT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD F-350. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT WATER IN THE FUEL FILTER CAUSED THE FUEL PUMP TO FAIL. AS A RESULT, METAL SHAVINGS WERE SENT THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE FUEL PUMP, FILTER, AND INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HIS PHONE CALL TO THEM WOULD ALSO BE FILED WITH NHTSA AND FTC. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO DENIED THE CONTACT'S WARRANTY AND INSTRUCTED HIM TO BILL HIS INSURANCE COMPANY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE MANUFACTURER'S STATEMENT AND STATED THAT FORD SHOULD BE COVERING THE REPAIR. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000.

I have experienced an extremely violent vibration/wobbling of the vehicle at freeway speeds on several occasions. During these times, it is very difficult to control breaking, steering the vehicle, making it nearly impossible. I felt very unsafe not only for myself, but also other vehicles around me as I was driving a heavy-duty vehicle on the freeway at a high speed with essentially no control. Although I was shaken up, I was able to regain control of the vehicle and continue on my way. There have been no reports or inspections at this time. Prior to this happening, there were no warnings or messages. This happens twice in 2 days while driving on a long trip. Both times this occurred while driving at 65-70 mph and driving over a small bump in road.

SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN MAY OF 2014 I HAVE EXPERIENCED UNEVEN BRAKING, MEANING MOST OF THE TIME WHEN I BRAKE, THE VEHICLE PULLS TO THE RIGHT HARD. LESS SO ON THE LEFT. ON AUGUST 6TH, 2014 I TOOK MY 2014 FORD F350XL SUPER DUTY TO VARNEY FORD IN NEWPORT MAINE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE LOOKED AT. THEY REPLACED BOTH BRAKE CALIPERS AND PADS. I DROVE THE MY TRUCK TO TENNESSEE ON AUGUST 15TH, 2014 WITH OUR 16,000LB 5TH WHEEL CAMPER ON THE BACK, DURING THE TRIP I HAD TO DO 2 EMERGENCY BRAKINGS IN 3 LANE TRAFFIC. THE TRUCK LURCHED TO THE RIGHT BOTH TIMES AND I HAD TO FIGHT THE WHEEL TO KEEP THE TRUCK STRAIGHT! IT KEPT DOING IT ON OUR WAY BACK HOME TO MAINE AS WELL. IT HAS DONE THIS FOR QUITE SOME TIME AND ON JULY 30TH OF 2015 I TOOK MY TRUCK TO HIGHT FORD IN SKOWHEGAN, MAINE FOR AN UNUSUAL NOISE IN THE DRIVE LINE. THEY PUT THE VEHICLE ON THE LIFT AND CHECKED EVERYTHING OUT. THE MECHANIC BROUGHT ME TO THE TRUCK THAT WAS ON THE LIFT AND SHOWED ME THE EXCESS BRAKE DUST ON THE RIMS. HE ASKED ME TO TRY TO TURN THE RIGHT SIDE WHEEL, IT WAS HARD TO TURN. HE TOLD ME THAT THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM COULD BE. THE LEFT WHEEL TURNED WITHOUT EFFORT BUT THE RIGHT SIDE WAS STUCK. I TOLD THE MECHANIC OF THE PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE WITH BRAKING AND THAT IT PULLS HARD TO THE RIGHT. THEY CHECKED ON BULLETINS AND THERE IS ONE BULLETIN ON UNUSUAL BRAKING ON THESE VEHICLES. THIS IS THE 3RD SET OF CALIPERS PUT ON THIS TRUCK AND STILL THE BRAKES ARE PULLING TO THE RIGHT. I AM HEADING OUT TO TENNESSEE ON AUGUST 14TH 2015 AND I AM QUITE CERTAIN THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL OCCUR AGAIN. THE DAY AFTER HAVING THE BRAKES "FIXED" FOR THE 3RD TIME THE RIMS ARE COVERED IN EXCESS BRAKE DUST. NOT ONLY IS THIS SLOWING MY VEHICLE DOWN TO GIVE ME LOWER MILEAGE IT IS ALSO A SAFETY HAZARD IF I HAVE TO BRAKE HARD AGAIN ON A CROWDED HIGHWAY AND SLAM INTO A FEW CARS AS WELL. WHAT HAPPENS THEN?

I ORDERED A NEW F-350 POWER STROKE DIESEL IN NOVEMBER. I WAITED UNTIL JAN 22 FOR IT TO BE DELIVERED TO ME. $65,000. WHEN I WENT TO PICK IT UP AT SUNRISE FORD IN FT PIERCE FLORIDA, IT LOOKED LIKE THE WHEEL HUBS WERE RUSTED SO I LOOKED UNDERNEATH. I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT I SAW. THE ENTIRE CARRIAGE TO THE DRIVE TRAIN WAS NOT ONLY CORRODED AND RUSTED, BUT HOLES WERE DEVELOPING IN THE DRIVE SHAFT, THE TIE RODS, THE CARRIAGE BOLTS, THE WHEEL SUPPORTS, THE U-JOINTS...NOT SURFACE RUST. IT WAS AS THOUGH THE TRUCK PARTS WERE TAKEN FROM A JUNK YARD. THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY ARE ALL LIKE THAT. SURE ENOUGH, WHEN I LOOKED UNDER ALL THE TRUCKS THEY WERE ALL ROTTED OUT...BEAUTIFUL BOX PUT ON ROTTED CHASSES. THE THING IS THAT WHEN YOU TOW TENS OF THOUSANDS OF POUNDS WITH THESE "WORK HORSES", IT IS THE CHASSIS THAT NEEDS TO BE STRONG AND WHEN IT IS ALREADY OXIDIZING, IT IS GOOD FOR NOTHING. I TOOK BACK MY DEPOSIT AND BEGAN TRAVELING TO NORTH PALM AND OTHER DEALERS....SAME THING...RUSTED AND ROTTED OUT CHASIS, CHASIS PARTS, DRIVE TRAIN AND PARTS AND BOLTS AND OTHER COMPONENTS. WE MADE THEM LIFT THE TRUCK SO I COULD SEE IF IT WAS AN OLD VEHICLE THEY WERE PASSING OFF AS NEW....9 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, TRAVELED BY FREIGHT...NOT DRIVEN...AND THE YEAR ON THE STICKER IN THE DOOR WAS 2014/JAN. WHEN I ASKED WHAT OTHER PEOPLE DO...HE SAID, "NO ONE EVER THINKS TO LOOK UNDERNEATH....BY THE WAY...THE CHASIS IS ONLY WARRANTIED FOR THREE YEARS...THEN FORD WASHES THEIR HANDS OF IT! WHAT HAPPENED TO AMERICA?THIS NEEDS TO BE PUT ON THE SOCIAL MEDIA. I FILMED THE ENTIRE UNDER CARRIAGE AND WOULD LIKE TO SEND THEM TO YOU. *TR

NHTSA 5-Star Safety Ratings from government crash tests. Ratings can differ by cab style and 2WD/4WD.
NHTSA hasn't published star ratings for this truck. Many heavy-duty pickups aren't included in NHTSA's crash-test program, so this doesn't mean the truck is unsafe.
