2023–2026 Ford F-250 / F-350 Super Duty common problems and fixes

Too new for clear patterns; recalls are the main things to check, including a do-not-drive brake pedal recall on certain 2025 trucks, axle shafts, a driveshaft weld and software.

What owners should know

Covers 2023–2026 · 6.7L Power Stroke diesel (standard and high output), 7.3L V8 and 6.8L V8 gas · Updated 2026-10-07

The current Super Duty was redesigned for 2023. Engines are the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel (standard and high output), the 7.3L V8 gas and the new 6.8L V8 gas, all with the 10-speed automatic.

These trucks are new, so there isn't much owner history yet. We counted 212 owner complaints filed with NHTSA so far (retrieved October 5, 2026; each complaint counted once): 127 from diesel trucks, 62 from 7.3L gas trucks and 21 from 6.8L gas trucks, identified by VIN; the rest (2) couldn't be matched to an engine. No complaints had a VIN belonging to another vehicle. NHTSA lists 24 recalls across these years. Because the trucks are new, open recalls and how much factory warranty is left for the specific VIN are the most important things to check.

At a glance

  • Recalls are the main story. A brake pedal pushrod on certain 2025 trucks and front wheel hub extenders on certain 2023 dual-rear-wheel F-350s (both do not drive until repaired), rear axle shafts, a driveshaft weld, steering column parts and many camera and screen issues.
  • Owner complaints are spread out: about 50 mention brakes or braking (including trailer brakes and automatic emergency braking), about 50 mention a screen, display, camera, cluster or SYNC, and about 20 mention the transmission or shifting.
  • Ask about the remaining factory warranty and make sure it transfers to you.

Recalls to check

  • Brake pedal pushrod may disconnect on certain 2025 trucks because a retaining spring may be missing, causing a sudden loss of braking. Ford and NHTSA advise not driving these trucks until the dealer inspects and repairs the brake pedal assembly (recall 25V401000).
  • Front wheel hub extender nuts may be loose on certain 2023 F-350s with front wheel hub extenders (dual rear wheels), so the front wheel and extender can come off. NHTSA's record says do not drive these trucks until the dealer inspects the nuts and, if they're loose, replaces the extender, nuts and hub assembly (recall 23V758000).
  • Rear axle shaft may break on certain 2023 trucks with single rear wheels and the 10.5-inch axle (left shaft, recall 23V595000) and certain 2026 trucks (right shaft, recall 25V866000). A broken shaft can cause loss of drive power or let the truck roll in Park if the parking brake isn't set. The dealer checks the shaft's date code and replaces it if needed.
  • Driveshaft friction weld may fail on certain 2025–2026 trucks, causing a sudden loss of drive power; the dealer checks the driveshaft serial number and replaces it if needed (recall 26V119000).
  • Steering column upper shaft bolts may be missing or loose on certain 2023 trucks; the dealer tightens or installs them (recall 23V344000). The steering wheel clock spring may lose its connection to the driver air bag on certain 2023 trucks; the dealer inspects and replaces it if needed (recall 23V847000).
  • Gas engine fuel pump: the low-pressure fuel pump may fail and stall the engine on certain 2023 gas trucks; the dealer replaces the pump (recall 25V455000).
  • Diesel fuel return line connectors may crack and leak on a handful of 2025 trucks; Ford reports all were repaired (recall 25V306000).
  • Trailer brakes and lights: while towing, the integrated trailer brake module may lose communication with the truck, so the trailer's brake lights, turn signals or brakes can stop working. The fix is a software update from the dealer or over the air (recall 26V104000, certain 2022–2026 trucks). 16 of the 212 complaints mention trailer brakes, lights or the trailer module. If you tow, confirm this update is done.
  • Many camera, screen and instrument cluster recalls, including one for trucks repaired incorrectly the first time (see the fix card above).

What owners report

Complaints so far are spread out, without one dominant problem. Brakes (including trailer brake and automatic emergency braking complaints), screens and cameras, and transmission behavior come up most. In the forum thread we read, owners of the new 6.8L gas engine mostly comment on fuel economy rather than failures. Earlier 6.7L diesels were recalled over high-pressure fuel pump failures linked to fuel quality (2020–2022 trucks), so on any diesel, clean fuel and on-time fuel filter changes still matter.

  • Brake pedal can disconnect (2025 recall, do not drive)

    Dealer job

Signs: No warning before it happens: the brake pedal pushrod can come off, causing a sudden loss of braking.

Fix: Covered by Ford recall 25V401000 (Ford 25C26) on certain 2025 trucks: the dealer inspects the brake pedal assembly and repairs it as needed. Ford and NHTSA advise owners not to drive affected trucks until the repair is done, so ask the dealer about towing. Recalls cover only specific trucks, so check this VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if it's included and whether the repair was done.

May be covered free by recall 25V401000. Check the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

  • Front wheel can come off a dual-rear-wheel F-350 (2023 recall, do not drive)

    Dealer job

Signs: Often no warning: loose front wheel hub extender nuts can let the wheel and extender separate from the truck.

Fix: **Do not drive the truck until the recall repair is done**, NHTSA's record says. Covered by Ford recall 23V758000 (Ford 23S59) on certain 2023 F-350s with front wheel hub extenders (the dual-rear-wheel trucks): the dealer inspects the extender nuts and, if they're loose, replaces the hub extender, nuts and hub assembly for free. Ask the dealer about towing. Recalls cover only specific trucks, so check this VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if it's included and whether the repair was done.

May be covered free by recall 23V758000. Check the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

  • Rear axle shaft or driveshaft failure

    Dealer job

Signs: Loss of drive power, or the truck rolling while in Park.

Fix: Covered by Ford recalls on certain trucks: the dealer checks the rear axle shaft date code and replaces the shaft if needed (23V595000 on certain 2023 single-rear-wheel trucks, 25V866000 on certain 2026 trucks), or checks the driveshaft serial number and replaces the driveshaft if needed (26V119000 on certain 2025–2026 trucks). Ford's owner letters note that a broken axle shaft can let the truck roll if the parking brake isn't set, so set it every time you park until the repair is done. Recalls cover only specific trucks, so check this VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if it's included and whether the repair was done.

May be covered free by recall 23V595000 / 25V866000 / 26V119000. Check the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

  • Camera, screen and instrument cluster problems

    Dealer job

Signs: Blank, frozen or blue backup camera image, the camera hidden behind the screen menu, or a blank instrument cluster.

Fix: Ford recalled certain trucks for these: camera software updates (23V573000 and a follow-up 25V134000 for trucks repaired incorrectly, 25V315000, and 26V489000 on certain F-250s with the 8-inch screen, remedy expected from September 2026); a new tailgate camera, wiring and module plus a software update where water gets into the tailgate camera module (24V806000, certain 2023–2024 trucks); a replacement cluster module on certain 2023 trucks (23V506000); and cluster software on certain 2025–2026 trucks (25V540000). Recalls cover only specific trucks, so check this VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if it's included and whether the repair was done. If the problem continues after the recall work, have the dealer read the module codes before replacing parts.

    May be covered free by recall 23V573000 / 25V134000 / 25V315000 / 26V489000 / 24V806000 / 23V506000 / 25V540000. Check the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

  • Diesel fuel system care

    Easy DIY

Signs: Water in fuel or a clogged filter can damage the high-pressure fuel pump and injectors.

Fix: Change both fuel filters on Ford's schedule, drain the water separator when the warning comes on, and buy fuel from busy stations. If the truck loses power or shows a fuel system code, have it diagnosed (fuel pressure tests, checking the filters for water or metal) before buying a pump or injectors.
