Recalls and owner complaints reported to NHTSA
Compared with the typical (middle) count of 226 complaints across the 7 model-year 2024 half-ton trucks we cover. Best-selling trucks naturally collect more complaints because more of them are on the road.
Price & value
We don't guess at prices. Get a real value for the exact truck from Kelley Blue Book, then see how the asking price compares.
Is it a good deal?
- Look up the truck on Kelley Blue Book. Choose its cab, trim, options, miles, condition and your ZIP code, and note the private party value (or the fair purchase price if you're buying from a dealer).
- Enter that value and the asking price below.
Enter both numbers to see the deal rating.
The rating only compares the two numbers you enter: within 5% of the value is a good deal, 5–15% under is a great deal, and more than 15% under is a buy-it-now price. Know Your Truck isn't affiliated with Kelley Blue Book. Rust, accident history, lifts and mods, and service records all change what a truck is worth, so always get a pre-purchase inspection.
Owner's manual
Get the free official owner's manual from Ford's owner manual library. Choose 2024 F-150. It covers maintenance schedules, fluids, towing limits and warning lights. Older years may not be listed online.

Several times now the truck will get "stuck" in N or D and will not move. No loss of power, and can't manually shift out to park. Now waiting for a tow to the dealer, they were supposed to correct this when I took it in the last time it happened but didn't. There are a lot of online complaints IRT this issue with the powerboost 150 and other 150s. Mine was made at the Dearborn plant. Huge safety issue and it needs to be addressed

Safety recall 25V512 has been open and unfulfilled for nearly a year. The dealer says parts are not available and cannot provide a date when they will be. I can’t believe Ford cannot get parts for a critical recall but can still produce over 1/2 million new trucks annually.

February, 2026 — approximately 14,039 miles. The vehicle experienced a breakdown/engine shutdown on a major highway. The truck was towed to a Ford Service Dept and they described it as "engine failure" and "repair throttle body". We were lucky to not be involved in an accident with the truck suddenly shutting off at 70mph. August 20, 2026 through August 28, 2026 — 22,824 miles. I reported multiple serious concerns. After driving, stopping the vehicle, and returning approximately 10 minutes later, numerous IPC warning codes appeared and the vehicle could not be shifted into reverse or drive until after cycling the ignition several times. The vehicle required a tow-in to the dealer. On one of the incidents the truck again shutdown and had to be towed. The dealership advised it's a software problem. This power-boost F150 truck is unsafe.

Re: Recurring Knock Sensor Failure — 2024 Ford F-150 STX (2.7L) I am writing to document a recurring mechanical issue with my 2024 Ford F-150 STX, 2.7L, currently at approximately 30,900 miles, purchased new. First Incident (late XXX): While driving, the check engine light illuminated, indicating a knock sensor fault. I brought the vehicle to Ted Britt Ford in [XXX], where it remained for five days for sensor replacement. I requested a loaner vehicle, which the dealership stated was unavailable, requiring me to rent a replacement vehicle at my own expense. Second Incident (XXX): Following a period of heavy rainfall, the check engine light returned with an identical knock sensor fault. The vehicle was again taken to the same dealership and held for five days for repair. When I again requested a loaner, I was informed one could not be provided because the vehicle was not originally purchased at that dealership. Rental Costs: Across both repairs, I have incurred rental vehicle expenses for a combined 10 days due to the dealership's lack of loaner availability. Suspected Root Cause: Based on the pattern of failures — particularly the correlation with heavy rain — I believe water may be intruding into the engine compartment through the hood cowl area and affecting the knock sensor. I have found numerous other reports from Ford F-150 owners describing similar symptoms, which suggests this may be a broader design or manufacturing issue rather than an isolated incident. Concerns: Given that this is a low-mileage, recently purchased vehicle experiencing the same failure twice within approximately three to four months, I am concerned this issue will recur once the vehicle is out of warranty, at which point repairs would no longer be covered. I believe this pattern warrants investigation, and potentially a recall, given the apparent frequency of similar complaints among other owners. Following an over-the-air (OTA) software update installed to my vehicle on Wednesday, all digital controls on the steering column/steering wheel console became completely non-functional by Thursday morning. Specifically affected systems include: Turn signal / blinker controls Windshield wiper controls and washer fluid activation Steering wheel-mounted media, phone, and instrument cluster dash navigation buttons A subsequent OTA update installed today did not resolve the issue. The inability to signal lane changes or turns and the complete loss of wiper and windshield cleaning controls create an immediate safety hazard, severely degrading vehicle visibility and signaling capabilities in active traffic. There were no prior warning indicators or messages preceding this failure. The vehicle was brought to an authorized dealership to schedule diagnosis and repair, but their earliest service opening is September 30th. While booking the appointment, the service advisor noted that other vehicles have recently experienced component and module failures following recent OTA software updates (specifically citing a customer whose vehicle cameras completely failed after an update). The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request.

Purchased new vehicle May 2024 primarily for towing my recreational vehicle (2024 Ford F150 Pickup). June 2024 took vehicle to dealership indicating that I was intermittently getting a "Trailer Disconnect" warning while driving (loss of trailer brakes, lights etc.). Dealer indicated no issue found. Subsequently returned to dealership on 6 other occasions over 2 years after continuing to experience the failure. Replaced 7 pin connector on trailer and dealer has replaced the 7 pin on vehicle and Trailer Control Module (TCM) but problem persists. Early 2026 dealership performed a recall on TCM software - did not resolve the issue (vehicle intermittently indicates the trailer is disconnected while driving or manually activating the trailer brakes). Issue seems to occur typical on startup after several hours of driving with a trailer (heat related), and every time activate the trailer brakes manually. I get a "Trailer Disconnect" warning by activating the manual trailer brake even without a trailer attached. Working with Ford Customer Service Team and the dealership for 7 days, no solution was discovered. The dealership indicated (in writing) that it is normal operation to disconnect the trailer when the TCM is activated manually (while driving or stopped).

The rear window of my 2024 Ford F-150 XLT violently exploded without warning. I was actively entering the truck when the explosion occurred. There was no collision, or object that stroked the glass. The extremely loud explosion terrified me, and because I initially did not know what had occurred, I contacted police. I have a police report of the incident. The failed component was the rear window/rear glass assembly. The shattered glass and vehicle were available for inspection following the incident and was towed to Ford. The sudden failure presented a serious safety risk because I was at the driver's seat when the glass exploded. I could have sustained significant lacerations from the glass. Other occupants could also potentially be injured. The failure has not been independently reproduced. The failure was directly observed by me, and the police were contacted immediately following the incident. I have reported the incident to Ford. Ford has been notified of the failure, but I have not received an adequate explanation establishing why the rear window suddenly exploded. I have subsequently researched similar reports involving Ford F-150 rear-window failures and discovered other consumer complaints describing sudden or unexplained rear-window shattering, including reports raising concerns regarding the rear defroster and/or associated electrical components. I did not use a rear defroster - the car was off. This raises concerns about whether Ford has adequately investigated a potential recurring defect and whether consumers should have been warned. The vehicle had had no warning lamps. This incident occurred on a vehicle purchased new in 2024. I have also experienced another major problem with the vehicle. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether sudden rear-window failure in the Ford F-150 represents a safety defect, whether Ford had prior notice of similar failures, and whether additional investigation, consumer notification, or a safety recall is warranted.

While driving my 2024 Ford F-150 Lariat PowerBoost at highway speed, the panoramic sunroof glass suddenly shattered without warning. The truck had been parked inside my garage immediately beforehand. Approximately three minutes after leaving the garage, I entered the highway, and about two minutes later there was an extremely loud bang. There was no indication that any object or road debris struck the vehicle before the glass shattered. The interior sunshade was closed at the time, which prevented broken glass and debris from falling into the passenger compartment. After hearing the bang, I noticed significant wind noise and discovered that the panoramic roof glass had shattered. There was no known impact or other event that would explain the sudden failure. I am reporting this because the unexpected shattering of panoramic roof glass while a vehicle is traveling at highway speed presents a potential safety hazard to occupants.

While traveling at cruising speed (70 MPH) on Interstate 95 South, the vehicle suffered a catastrophic electrical and mechanical failure, resulting in an immediate engine stall. The vehicle lost all propulsion. Due to the sudden loss of power, the vehicle could not safely clear the active lanes of traffic, coasting to a stop near an exit ramp and dangerously blocking highway traffic.Upon attempting to restart the vehicle to move it out of harm's way, the vehicle emitted a rapid clicking noise and again stalled out. Because this vehicle utilizes an electronic shift-by-wire system, the total power failure permanently locked the transmission into "Park." The vehicle could not be shifted into "Neutral" or "Drive" to be pushed safely off the road. This total vehicle failure created an immediate, life-threatening hazard for the occupants and surrounding motorists on a high-speed interstate, requiring emergency police intervention to manage traffic until a flatbed tow truck arrived.

On 4/22/2026 while flat towing this vehicle behind my motorhome, it burst into flames. The trip began in [XXX] . Driving south on XXX, I stopped about 120 miles later at a rest stop near XXX. I did a complete walk around inspection. There were no issues, everything looked fine. We continued on and about 20 miles later another vehicle driver was telling me frantically to pull over. I looked at my rear camera and saw the Ford was smoking. This was not due to an improper neutral tow setting. The truck would have burned in the first 20 miles. I have towed this vehicle many times. I know the importance of doing it properly., Thankfully there was a good place to pull over. I tried to extinguish the fire with my extinguisher but it was too hot. I was unable to disconnect from the motorhome. Both are a total loss. I think of all the places this could have happened and how trapped we could have been. By the grace of God, nobody was injured. Yes there is a police report and an insurance claim. There were no warning signs. My braking system runs on its own battery so there was no draw on the Ford battery. Ford did an update on the computer the night prior. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving on a controlled-access highway, BlueCruise Hands-Free was active. The Adaptive Cruise Control was set to 65 MPH and the vehicle’s recognized speed limit was 65 MPH. My foot was not on the accelerator. The vehicle unexpectedly accelerated beyond the 65 MPH set speed. The vehicle continued accelerating on its own and subsequently reached approximately 82 MPH. At approximately 82 MPH, the instrument cluster showed the cruise setting at approximately 85 MPH while the detected speed limit remained 65 MPH. I did not intentionally increase the cruise set speed to 85 MPH. The vehicle was operating in Hands-Free BlueCruise during the event. The system subsequently displayed “Keep hands on steering wheel.” I have the video documenting the instrument-cluster displays during the event. This created a serious safety hazard because the vehicle accelerated approximately 17 MPH above the posted/detected 65 MPH speed limit without intentional accelerator input or intentional increase of the cruise setting. This situation happened at least 3 more times before I completely disengaged the hand free feature due to safety concerns.

While driving in Sport mode on an interstate, during descending downhill, the transmission started down shifting. At that time near the bottom of the hill was standing water on an area. It was suddenly like hitting the brakes & I hydroplaned, but luckily I never touched the brakes. The down shifting at the same time as hitting the water caused the vehicle to loose control of the road. Luckily I regained control by steering and did not wreck. I was involved in a rear end collision where I was at fault. I suspect the ADAS in my 2024 F-150 malfunctioned because it did not prevent the collision. I impacted the rear of a minivan at approximately 20 mph. The ADAS did not take evasive action. Previously I have had nuisance activations of the visual and aural warnings for the pre-collision system, followed by a warning message that radar guided cruise control was not available.

The air bags did not deploy. The driver sustained nerve pain, causing the fingers to become numb, and the driver sustained headaches, back, hips, and shoulder pain. It was unknown whether the other driver sustained injuries. The contact's wife drove to an emergency room after the collision and received medical assistance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to an auto collision repair shop, where it was serviced for the collision damage. An independent mechanic had diagnosed the vehicle with a one-pedal driving system and ABS failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the insurance company for assistance. The failure mileage was 13,290.

As I went to reverse to pull out of a parking area, the truck accelerated, I applied the brakes and the truck continued going dragging the front tires at one point. I decided at the last min to attempt to put the truck in neutral or park and at that time it was stopped between two trees. This could of been very bad if my kids were in the yard playing or many other scenarios. The 2024 F150 is still at the dealership waiting on approval to do body work. We have requested they run diagnostics or telemetry on the trucks systems to verify the problem but after a month that has not been done yet.

Three incidents happened with this vehicle. When I put the car on reverse and reversed and stopped, the gear was then put on drive and before the accelerator was stepped on the vehicle propelled itself at a very high speed and I had to emergently step on the brakes before it hit anything. The the front collision warning did not come on and the vehicle did not brake on its own. The same thing happened in our driveway and before we could apply the brakes the vehicle crashed into a tree. This time also the front collision warning did not come on and the vehicle did not brake and went and hit a tree. There was a video that captured this incident and was shown to our Ford dealership and they did not do anything about it. We told them that the vehicle accelerates by itself and is a safety hazard. Since this did not involve any other vehicle or pedestrian the hazard was limited only to ourselves, The insurance was charged more than 10,000 to fix the damages and we also had to pay a deductible of 1000. More importantly we are unaware if this has been reported by others and can cause serious injuries to the driver, occupants of the vehicle and other who may be involved inadvertenly. Any death caused will become the responsibility of the driver even though this was not the mistake of the driver.

The cause of the accident was due to an extremely hard downshift, then extremely hard upshift. Between the speeds of 25-37 mph the truck will do a hard downshift with a 1-3 second loss of power delay. When it finally grabs gear it takes off like a rocket before grabbing the next gear and back to what feels normal. This is something I never experienced in my 2022 Ford F150 with the same motor and transmission. This particular day, I had pulled off to the side of the road to let the mail carrier go through the narrow section of the road first. This particular section, there is a huge tree right next to the road (approximately 12"-14" off the road). After the mail carrier passed, I started to speed up. Upon hitting 34 mph, the transmission shifted hard, pulled me into the ditch, and by the time the gear grabbed, and I had power to control, I hit the tree. As a habit, since this issue happened numerous times, I looked at the speedometer and just prior to impact I was at 43 mph. The transmission is not the only issue that I have been having with this vehicle. There has been a fuel consumption issue, a hard start issue (does not matter time of day), as well as a grinding issue at the front right wheel. This truck is equipped with a 36-gallon fuel tank. At the city driving mpg and a 34-gallon fill-up, I should have been getting 544 miles/tank. However, that was not the case as I was only getting 440-447 miles/tank (did not matter whether normal, eco, or sport mode driving). Each fill up was a 24-28 gallon fill-up leaving 8-10 gallons unaccounted for. A PCM update was done but it only got me to 510 miles with a 30-gallon fill-up. Each complaint I made with the transmission went ignored with me being told "this is normal for the 10 speeds. You will just need to learn to deal with it." After the PCM update with no true fix, I was told "drive it to zero MTE and calculate from there how far you can drive, then you know." This is a horrible and extremely unsafe answer to give.

2024 Ford F-150 Platinum PowerBoost Hybrid. Diagnostic codes for power steering loss and CAN bus communication faults documented at 337 miles, well within the 3-year/36,000-mile new vehicle warranty. The vehicle has been at a Ford dealer since March 10, 2026 for symptoms including the truck randomly turning off while driving and loss of power steering communication. As of this report, the truck has been at the dealer 58 days without resolution. Documented diagnostic findings include: Lost Communication with PSCM (U0131), SCP/J1850 Communications Bus Fault (U1028), permanent code P1A42 Propulsion System Status Signal Performance, hybrid-specific High Voltage System Interlock U3523-00, Steering Position Sensor P060A, no communication with Power Steering Control Module, intermittent PCM communication during self-tests, BCMC fuse 69 with no power, and circuit CBB69 with no voltage. A Ford Field Service Engineer was dispatched April 23, 2026. On April 24, 2026 the dealer located damaged wiring inside a harness behind the BCMC bracket. Prior to that, the dealer escalated through R&I of multiple modules (PSCM, PCM, BCMC, Gateway Module access) over 45 days without locating the actual cause. The vehicle is currently subject to NHTSA recall 26V104 / Ford 26C10 (Trailer Module loss of communication at startup) issued 3/18/2026, status Recall Incomplete. The recall describes the same general failure mode (module communication loss at startup) the customer has been experiencing. Power steering loss while driving is a serious safety concern, particularly given the vehicle's hybrid drivetrain and CAN-bus-dependent safety systems.

I am the lessee of a 2024 Ford F‑150 Lightning XLT, VIN [Insert VIN], and I am submitting this description due to repeated failures, recalls, and safety-related defects that have significantly impacted the safe operation, reliability, and value of my vehicle. Since taking delivery, the vehicle has experienced multiple malfunctions in critical systems that have been confirmed by the dealership and addressed through official recalls, yet problems persist. The primary components affected include the park pawl/park position system, which has intermittently failed to reliably lock the vehicle in park, creating a risk of unintentional rolling that endangers my safety, the safety of passengers, and the safety of others in the vicinity. This component is available for inspection upon request at the dealership. The front suspension upper control arm ball joints have also demonstrated premature wear or defects, reducing steering stability, affecting handling, and increasing the risk of loss of control, particularly in turns or under braking. Additionally, the high-voltage battery system has a documented recall due to a manufacturing defect affecting charging safety, posing risks of overheating, electrical hazards, or fire. All these defects have been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer during service visits, and the vehicle has been inspected by certified Ford technicians, with repair attempts documented in service records. Warning indicators and messages appeared prior to failures, including park and transmission warnings first noticed on [Insert Date] and battery system warnings appearing on [Insert Date]. Other symptoms included abnormal noises and handling issues linked to the front suspension, first observed on [Insert Date]. Despite following all recommended repair procedures, these defects have persisted, indicating a systemic problem likely rooted in manufacturer design or component failure. I purchased a new 2024 Ford F-150 on August 31, 2024, and just six weeks later, on October 19, 2024, the entire left front suspension failed while I was driving at 50-55 MPH. The truck suddenly and unexpectedly took a hard left and I nearly lost control of the vehicle. It was incredibly difficult to maintain control of the truck as it swerved dangerously, but I managed to guide it to the shoulder and called for a tow to the dealership where I bought it. I discovered the left front tire and rim had detached and the entire front suspension pulled out of the truck. The left front tire was positioned sideways under the truck. My concern is there's potential issues stemming from what appears to be a failure to properly torque the top control arm at the factory that are being covered up. I was told that Ford recalled some Rangers and Broncos after it was discovered the nut on the left upper control arm was either missing or not properly torqued in the plant. To my knowledge there has not been a recall on the F150 models. If the incident had occurred on the interstate or while meeting an oncoming vehicle, I have no doubt there would have been serious injuries or fatalities involved. The were no warning signs or symptoms prior to the incident occurring. The truck remained at the dealership in repair until November 20th.

Safety issue was the vehicle sudden stop and coming to rest in the travelled portion of the roadway. The vehicle was towed to Battlefield Ford in Culpeper VA on the date of the incident ([XXX]) and it was returned to me on [XXX]. At approximately 6:20 PM on Friday, July 26, 2024 airbags exploded on a Ford F-150 while it was on the assembly line (Chassis Line 5) at Ford Motor Company's Dearborn Truck Plant (DTP). Two hourly employees, one of them in the driver's seat, were working on the truck at the time and both were sent to an area hospital for treatment. The line was stopped, but only for about 30-40 minutes. By 7 PM it was running again until the conclusion of our scheduled ten-hour day, which occurred at 4:30 AM. The truck could not be removed from the line where the explosion had happened, so it had to be run all the way to the end of Chassis Line 7, where it was pushed off. Employees were extremely angry, to put it mildly, and concerned about another occurrence. I reported this to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) on Monday, July 29, 2024. Their complaint number is 2193285.

Seat belt sensors do not work correctly for back seat passenger. Seat doesn’t register people sitting in it or when seat belt is buckled sometimes. Issue was reported to dealer and taken for repairs u see warranty, but never completed. Causes issues when carrying passengers because i can’t tell if people are buckled. Sometimes driving down road it alerts randomly that seat belt was unbuckled and causes risk that could lead to an accident when I have to adjust it for a child while driving down the road. This is a wide spread reported issue for these trucks and should be recalled.

I own a 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum built in August 2024. The vehicle has been at the dealership for over 45 days for severe, unresolved electrical safety defects. I have attached photographic proof of the main defects. The first three photos show the driver's instrument display screen behind the steering wheel completely blacking out on startup, blinding critical safety gauges like the speedometer. The center screen stays on, but the main cluster is totally dead. Fourth and fifth photos show the driver's seat memory failure. I manually set my lumbar support to a comfortable 3-4-3 setting and save it, but every time the truck sits, the seat completely deflates to a flat zero default on startup. This causes an immediate driving distraction and ergonomic hazard. The factory navigation also randomly shouts driving directions out of nowhere without any driver input. The dealership is currently trying to install a temporary "bypass wire" hack on my factory harness just to see if it fixes the seat memory. However, Ford's internal hotline (SSSC) refuses to authorize repairs for the black screen or phantom navigation until a tech physically catches it glitching on command. Ford’s policy is to return the vehicle unrepaired if it does not fail during active observation. I am requesting NHTSA to investigate Ford's active evasion of safety recall 25V540 (Ford 25S88). The official recall paperwork states the defective supplier software entered production on May 14, 2024. My truck was manufactured in August 2024—squarely within the defective window—yet Ford is using a model-year loophole to exclude 2024 vehicles from the recall population. They are denying owners a permanent factory software remedy and forcing dealers to use unapproved, temporary physical workarounds. The vehicle is at the dealership and available for federal inspection if need be.

Driver seat cushion. Vehicle has 1300 miles on it. moved seat forward and the seat bottom is crooked which is very uncomfortable to drive now as it causes low back pain and is not good for a person like myself with lumbar fusion. Your left leg has no seating area other than your left leg is off the cushion and between door panel seat is probably 15 degrees to right from being centered. Tried to move seat forward and back and up and down with no results. Took back to dealer 6-10-2025 they supposedly looked at the seat track and see nothing wrong with it, without removing seat you would not be able to tell what is defective which dealer didn't do. Compared seat to 2025 model seat is straight. Reading the internet seems to be a manufacturing defect with seats on Ford F150. Can provide vehicle for inspection.
