Recalls and owner complaints reported to NHTSA

Compared with the typical (middle) count of 65 complaints across the 5 model-year 2026 half-ton trucks we cover. Best-selling trucks naturally collect more complaints because more of them are on the road.

Price & value

We don't guess at prices. Get a real value for the exact truck from Kelley Blue Book, then see how the asking price compares.

Is it a good deal?

  1. Look up the truck on Kelley Blue Book. Choose its cab, trim, options, miles, condition and your ZIP code, and note the private party value (or the fair purchase price if you're buying from a dealer).
  2. Enter that value and the asking price below.
Check value on Kelley Blue Book ↗

Enter both numbers to see the deal rating.

The rating only compares the two numbers you enter: within 5% of the value is a good deal, 5–15% under is a great deal, and more than 15% under is a buy-it-now price. Know Your Truck isn't affiliated with Kelley Blue Book. Rust, accident history, lifts and mods, and service records all change what a truck is worth, so always get a pre-purchase inspection.

Driving on the interstate and the truck had a horrible vibration. It smoothed out and it did it again. I got off at the next exit and the engine was making a horrible knocking noise. I had it towed to my Chevy dealer for inspection. They drained the oil and found excessive metal in the oil. They decided that the engine needs to be replaced. The truck only has 4524 miles on it and it was purchased in June of 2026.

Engine seized and stalled while vehicle was in motion. This resulted in failure of power steering assist and power braking assist. This made vehicle extremely difficult to maneuver safely out of the flow of traffic. The engine seizure was confirmed by a Chevrolet dealership. And the engine was replaced by the Chevrolet dealership. There were no warning lamps. The engine made some unusual noises moments before failure.

While driving in a parking lot. Barely applying throttle to move straight forward not turning or driving on a rough road the truck completely shut off all screens went blank and I wasn't able to accelerate. I was able to restart the truck, shift into drive and continue but took a few seconds to realize the issue and properly restart the engine. Thankfully this occurred while in a parking lot without anyone behind me but this is a real concern for me now driving on streets/highways with other vehicles around. This truck was purchased brand new has never been off road and has just over 3,100 miles. There were no warning lights before or after this incident.

While driving at about 20mph we hear a grinding noise and the truck throws itself into nuetral and then shut off. The truck seems to be on like when started with the key fob, on but not fully started. A warning message comes on the dash stating "conditions not safe to drive". The truck would not go back into gear, even after pressing the start button and truck regaining power. Pressed on the brakes to stop, put in park and then back into drive. Message warning went off and truck drove as normal again. This has happened twice since purchasing the vehicle in May 2026.

I am submitting this formal statement regarding a severe, recurring safety hazard involving sudden engine stalling and internal mechanical noise on my 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.The vehicle has experienced multiple sudden engine stalls during low-speed deceleration, specifically while letting off the accelerator pedal to execute low-speed turns into parking lots. When the stall occurs, the engine dies completely, causing an immediate and dangerous loss of power steering and power braking assistance mid-turn. Because the vehicle shuts off completely while still in motion, I am forced to bring the truck to a dead stop, shift the transmission out of Drive and into Park, and completely cycle the ignition system to restart the engine. There is a distinct, audible mechanical ticking sound coming from the engine compartment during operation. Crucially, the vehicle has never illuminated a Check Engine Light, displayed a dashboard warning message, or given any advance electronic indication prior to or during these sudden stalling events. This vehicle's build window falls directly into the scope of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) active Engineering Analysis (EA26005) investigating catastrophic valvetrain and engine failures on GM 6.2L L87 engines. Because this defect causes an unexpected loss of vehicle control with zero diagnostic warnings, it poses an immediate highway safety risk to myself and others.I request a full diagnostic scan for hidden or pending fault codes, a physical inspection of the valvetrain/Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) system, and an inspection of the engine oil filter for metallic debris indicative of internal bearing degradation.

Picked up truck at the dealership with a friend and stopped at Restaurant across from the dealership. I backed into a parking spot and shifted into Park and pressed Button to shutdown Engine. No audible warnings were given to indicate that I did something improperly. We exited the vehicle and the only sound heard after I closed the door was the audible alarm that reminded me that the spare key was inside the vehicle. We walked approximately 30 to 40 feet and heard a crack from a limb that the truck struck as it rolled backwards down a small hill and crashed into a building. No one was hurt. Upon checking the vehicle, we noticed that the shifter indicated that it was in Reverse after impact. Onstar was notified because of the crash and we relayed to it that no one was hurt. I went to push an item to the far side of the truck to allow for more room. During this action, I put my left hand down with my knuckles facing the floor to provide leverage. without realizing where I was putting my hand, I placed the middle segment of my ring finger directly on the edge of the mechanical-jack and put my weight onto it. The jack is not covered and is black (the same color as the carpet). The edge of the jack has sharp burrs. As a result, I was cut across the entire middle segment of my ring finger and slightly on the knuckle of my middle finger.

On XXX, my Chevrolet Silverado experienced a sudden, severe loss of normal braking shortly after I dropped my child off at school. When I attempted to stop at a stop sign, the vehicle would not stop normally. The brake pedal remained firm, but braking effectiveness was drastically reduced and required extreme force. The dashboard simultaneously displayed multiple warnings involving the brake/ABS system, ESC, steering-column lock, and trailer-brake system. OnStar generated a diagnostic/safety report identifying fault/error code P062F. The vehicle then entered a reduced-speed/limp-mode condition. I was extremely fortunate this occurred within approximately one mile of Rick Hendrick Chevrolet of [XXX] and with little traffic around me. I was able to reach the dealership without a collision. Had this occurred at highway speed, the inability to stop normally could have resulted in a fatal crash. The incident also occurred immediately after school drop-off. Had I used the normal car line instead of parking and walking my child inside, this failure could have occurred among stopped vehicles while children were actively exiting them. I immediately brought the vehicle to Rick Hendrick Chevrolet. Despite the seriousness of the event, I do not believe the cause was adequately investigated. To my knowledge, a computer/software update was performed and I was essentially told to “let them know if it happens again.” They also asked what i was towing - nothing.I questioned whether an electrical fault or short could have caused the multiple simultaneous failures, but I am not aware of that possibility being investigated. Because another occurrence could cause serious injury or death, I refused to continue driving the vehicle and traded it in. I have now learned that the same vehicle is being offered for sale again. I am reporting this to NHTSA because I am concerned the underlying safety defect remains unresolved and could represent an early instance of a broader defect. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was initially diagnosed that the battery failure was unsoldered. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. While being test-driven by the mechanic, the vehicle stalled. After further investigation, it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to the main bearing failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, opened a case and informed the contact that a case worker, near his location, would contact him in 24 hours. I purchased this vehicle brand new and have experienced a recurring issue when coming to a stop. The forward sensors activate indicating I am too close to an object (even though nothing is in front of the vehicle), and the engine stalls. Everything shuts off except the driver information screen, which displays the prompt "Shift to Neutral and Press Start Again." Following this prompt does nothing; I have to shift into park and press the ignition again to restart the vehicle. I have taken the truck to the dealership multiple times. After the first two visits yielded no solution, the maintenance team contacted Chevy engineering, and a hard reset was performed. However, today (8/24), a similar issue occurred. While at a complete stop with a full car length between my truck and the vehicle ahead, the sensor warnings activated. The engine did not stall as it had before, but the issue seemed entirely random.

The driveway was completely empty there was no reason for the vehicle to activate that system if that's even what happened. The forward collision warning is excessively sensitive to vehicles and pedestrians. I've had the alert go off recently for something so simple as pulling into a parking spot. It goes off frequently just driving past pedestrians and throughout what I consider to be normal driving where I am not coming close to a collision with a vehicle. It is very unsettling and startling when the alert goes off indicating that I am coming close to a collision with a vehicle or a pedestrian. I had a 2023 Silverado 1500 LT/2.7 Turbomax engine and it was not this sensitive. I fear that this may actually cause an accident at some point or if the emergency braking were to activate with another vehicle behind me.

While driving my truck returning from a camping trip I received the following warnings in the dash: Service ESC, Service traction control, forward collision system unavailable. Check engine light was flashing. I made the assumption that the Check engine light was due to the warnings listed above. I continued to drive the vehicle until I began to feel a very noticeable shudder at idle, at low speeds, and also loss of power at higher speeds. The truck has the 5.3 ecotec engine with DFM. After researching the symptoms, I found that these symptoms are identical to the know lifter problem with that engine. The truck is a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado Trail boss with approx. 3454 miles on it. It's currently at the dealership waiting for them to "diagnose" the problem. I was told that it may just be a "faulty sensor", but after reading other people's experience with this engine I believe that the real problem is a damaged lifter/lifter pin due to the poor design and engineering of the DFM system

While driving this 2026 Chevy Silverado, the engine has shut off while driving it. While driving down the road the engine will shut off and a message on the display will show "Return to Neutral" and "Press Start". This is very dangerous to have a vehicle shut off while driving down the road as it affect my family and other drivers on the road. The vehicle need to be completely stopped to shift to Park, in order to start the vehicle again. There are no signs or warnings that this is going to happen, it just happens randomly. The dealer can not reproduce the problem but did confirm to me this has happened to several other same make/model vehicle that have been reported at the same dealership. On another unrelated safety issue with this same vehicle, the gas tank over flows when filling it up. Dealer was able to reproduce this problem, but doesn't know how to fix it yet. Is waiting to GM to approve what should be replaced, under warranty. This is dangerous for me and other people at gas stations. I can't fill my vehicle up all the way with fuel, otherwise it runs down the side of the vehicle and on to the ground where it is very flammable.

The engine cut itself off and shifted itself into neutral as I was slowing down and turning left into the gas station. It is available for inspection. My safety was at risk because had this happened on a legal road way, it could’ve caused someone to rear end me or t-bone me because I would’ve unexpectedly stopped, or the power steering may not have worked and I could’ve run into something. It has not been reproduced by any mechanic, only me. It has happened to me only twice within a 400 mile span. It has been inspected by a GM dealership twice now and is currently still at the dealership. There were no warnings of any kind before, during, or after the occurrence.

On XXX I was driving from [XXX] to my sister's house in [XXX]. I was relocating to [XXX] for a job. I was pulling a U-haul trailer (6x12) that contained significantly less weight than the truck can handle. About halfway there, on back roads, the truck suddenly slowed significantly and the gas pedal was unresponsive. The light in the dashboard read Reduced Acceleration - Drive with caution. Pulled over, turned off truck, opened driver side door, to reset the truck (read this on google). We had to do this a couple times, because it would just go back to that behavior after a bit. We made it to my sister's house to stay the night. In the morning, XXX, I called the local Chevy Service Dept in [XXX] and asked if I could bring it in, I described the problem. During the drive to the shop, the same issue occurred. Upon arriving at the service dept, the Trailer app was giving a warning that the load may be heavier than max. Which cannot be true. The dealer techs said they had never seen anything like it before, but they seemed to know what to look for. They then informed me that they could not loan me a car because I was traveling out of state. Tailgate keeps randomly opening when driving down the road. Vehicle was taken to a Chevrolet dealership for them to address. GM denied warranty claim and will not provide anything in writing. This is a huge safety concern for a work truck that hauls tools and equipment on a daily basis. And the fact that GM will not give anything in writing on the denial is absolute BS.

2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Safety Issue Summary: I am filing a complaint regarding critical safety defects with my vehicle. The truck displayed warning messages for traction control service and brake system failure on the instrument panel while parked in my driveway, prior to the vehicle becoming inoperable, I experienced dangerous driving conditions including swerving similar to hydroplaning on two separate occasions. Details: The vehicle was picked up on a flatbed on May 11th, 2026 because it would not start or run. When I drove it before this incident, I experienced the vehicle swerving dangerously similar to hydroplaning on two different occasions 5/1/26 and 5/9/26. Upon inspection, warning messages appeared on the dashboard indicating traction control system service and brake system failure. These are critical safety systems. Chevrolet HE Dealership in Wichita Falls, Texas performed a diagnostic and claimed to find only a dead battery and parasitic draw. They refuse to address the traction control or brake system failures and claim they cannot duplicate the issues. They are pressuring me to accept the vehicle without written confirmation that these safety systems have been repaired. Safety Risk: A vehicle with non-functioning traction control and brake system failures is unsafe to operate. I cannot accept this vehicle until these critical systems are properly diagnosed and repaired.Than you for your help in this matter.

The transmission was locked in Park and unable to shift to neutral to try to push vehicle to safe spot. At this point I was blocking the road. On XXX I leased this 2026 Silverado and I have discovered that this truck tramlines, basically rocks side to side on roads with longitudinal grooves in the concrete, meaning lines that go the same way you're driving, the truck will violently swag side to side. I have been pushed into oncoming traffic from this. On 7/17.26 I took my truck to Fox Chevrolet of [XXX] to get service about this issue. I took the general manager of theirs, Marc and he confirmed the issue. He said he would send the DOT number to GM and wait for their reply. He called me on 7/20 saying that GM informed him that this has been reported by others and there's nothing GM is willing to do and to just deal with it. I told him that I find that unacceptable and it needs to be looked at my someone higher up. He passed this to his service manager since he's going on vacation for the next week, Ron. Ron called me and said that he talked to the local dealer rep and that he claims there's a law that says GM can't change tires that didn't come on the truck and that this is a known issue with these tires and again to just deal with it. This is completely unacceptable and flat out dangerous! I had a 2024 Silverado before this truck and it never did it. It had different tires than this truck and that's my argument is the tires are the problem. The manufacturer, Michelin even said that the solution is to get different tires and it's known on these ones. The vehicle lost motive power, the brakes and the steering wheel became inoperable. The message "Depress Start" was displayed. The failure mileage was approximately 9,025.

the General Grabber HTS 255/70 R17 off a 2026 Chevy 1500 truck from factory with only 17k miles, has had multiple leaks from what appear to be the rubber itself cracking and no objects seem to be making the punctures. (this tire itself the main reason for this report has been repaired 4 times and now has its 5th leak) but at least 1 or more repairs have been made for 3 of the 4 tires as well as another chevy truck same year, model and tire from factory but only 1 of their tires has failed as of today. One of the tire punctures has leaked 5 psi within 1 mile distance. For obvious reasons of a tire going flat and so fast for no reason this can be extremely dangerous for the occupants of the vehicle as well as others that are on the same roadway,( locations to pull over, weather conditions IE icy roads and pos tire ruptures) The conditions have only been observed in the late spring, summer, and fall, they have not yet been seen in the winter, but is expected to fail more often as the cold with cause the tire to become more brittle and prone to more cracking. The Chevy truck TPMS does provided a fast and accurate tire pressure give the driver enough time to make decision on the best location to stop

My 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, LT Trail Boss, did not include a printed version of the Owner's Manuals and Guides. I have experienced issues with using automatic Car Washes with the truck lurching while inside the Car wash, the online version of the manual is difficult to use at times when internet access is unavailable. My VIN is not listed in the recall N252532020. Another issue is with the Driver's Seat, the retainer for the leather upholstery keeps popping off under the seat that can cause it to become caught in the seat's mechanics.

I purchased my new 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 truck on 12/04/2025 from CMA Chevrolet in [XXX] . When the truck was delivered, there was no owner's manual with the truck. I recently found that there was a recall associated with this issue. It is XXX. I thought that maybe manuals were now online. When I read the recall, it said that it is federal law that one be issued with each new vehicle. My VIN is not part of the recall. I contacted my salesman and he said that their parts department said that sometimes the manufacturer, GM, puts out VINs in blocks. This does not make sense. How does a manufacturer know something that they did not do?? I would like my VIN added to the list of vehicles that are affected by this recall.
