Recalls and owner complaints reported to NHTSA

Compared with the typical (middle) count of 125 complaints across the 5 model-year 2025 half-ton trucks we cover. Best-selling trucks naturally collect more complaints because more of them are on the road.

Price & value

We don't guess at prices. Get a real value for the exact truck from Kelley Blue Book, then see how the asking price compares.

Is it a good deal?

  1. Look up the truck on Kelley Blue Book. Choose its cab, trim, options, miles, condition and your ZIP code, and note the private party value (or the fair purchase price if you're buying from a dealer).
  2. Enter that value and the asking price below.
Check value on Kelley Blue Book ↗

Enter both numbers to see the deal rating.

The rating only compares the two numbers you enter: within 5% of the value is a good deal, 5–15% under is a great deal, and more than 15% under is a buy-it-now price. Know Your Truck isn't affiliated with Kelley Blue Book. Rust, accident history, lifts and mods, and service records all change what a truck is worth, so always get a pre-purchase inspection.

The engine started making a ticking noise and getting a little louder while driving to dealer where I had purchased the veichle and had it serviced as called for . They had me leave to check it out , they called me 2 hrs later and said it would need a new engine and it had a spun crankshaft bearing and would be 3 weeks to get the new engine . They said my warranty would cover the billing . I’m presently waiting to hear from them . They told me that the new engine would have a warranty but minus the 31615 miles that my odometer reads now ?

The engine has been using atleast 1 quart of oil every 2000 miles. This is put my maintenance cost way above the estimated maintenance cost projected by the manufacturer This oil usage is also causing premature engine wear as it's a quart low every 2000 miles. Dealer responses was this is normal for this engine. I went back and forth with the about estimated maintenance cost and ofcourse there responses was it estimated, well that's a very inaccurate estimate or willful lie. Idk just not happy about it.

On Thursday, July 9, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m., I was driving my 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Duramax on Highway 40 while towing a properly connected trailer. The Multi-Flex tailgate had been fully closed and latched before I began my trip and had not been opened at any point prior to the incident. While traveling on the highway, a California Highway Patrol officer pulled alongside my vehicle and alerted me that my tailgate was down and bouncing on the trailer I was towing. I immediately pulled over to the shoulder and observed that the entire Multi-Flex tailgate had unexpectedly unlatched and was resting on the trailer. I closed and latched the tailgate, which appeared to operate normally, and continued to my destination. At no time before or during the incident did the vehicle display a "Tailgate Open" warning or any other warning message on the instrument cluster. The unexpected opening of the tailgate caused it to strike the trailer, resulting in damage to the Multi-Flex tailgate, the rear bumper, and the trailer. The vehicle has approximately 11,000 miles, was purchased new, and has not been modified. I have opened a case with General Motors, and the vehicle is scheduled to be inspected by an authorized Chevrolet dealership.

Not acceptable! 2nd incident 1 month later my son calls and tells me when he started the truck it began making noise. He again got stuck with this truck because it lost complete power. 2025 Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab, VIN [XXX] , purchased new in April 2025. Total transaction value exceeded $50,000 including trade in of previous vehicle. Has experienced repeated serious electrical failures in under a year and 16,500 miles. Components that failed: Telematics module causing parasitic battery drain, DC/DC converter module, radio, and two complete battery failures. Turn signal was also triggering the high beams to flash, a separate electrical issue repaired under warranty. All components are available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: First battery failure occurred in January at 10,000 miles while traveling in the desert with my wife and infant son. We were stranded with no Chevrolet dealer accessible. Second battery failure occurred at 16,500 miles. A failed DC/DC converter module was discovered immediately after the latest round of repairs when the dashboard lit up with multiple warning lights and a check engine light the same day I picked up the vehicle. I drive this truck daily for work and transport my young child in it regularly. Repeated unexpected failures create a serious and ongoing safety risk. Confirmed by dealer: Yes. George Chevrolet confirmed and attempted repairs on the telematics module, DC/DC converter module, and radio. All failures documented on official repair orders. Warning lamps: Yes. Multiple warning lights and check engine light appeared immediately upon pickup after the most recent repairs. Manufacturer response: General Motors denied my repurchase request despite multiple confirmed warranty failures and has not offered a replacement vehicle. My truck (2025 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss LZ0 Duramax 3.0l) started to have problems when driving. At a stop light, I started to accelerate at about 2000-3000 RPM. While doing so, there was a loud ticking/grinding noise coming from the transmission/Bell housing area. On June 2nd, I dropped the truck off with the dealership. I didn’t hear back from them until about a month later (July 3rd) and when I did they said the technician confirmed I needed a new ‘axle actuator’. About a week and a half later, they said it did not fix the issue and started to become more of a problem to where they will need an “engine technician” to see if I need a new engine due to the “crank shaft thrust bearing”. The advisor said he will call me on Wednesday, July 15th to update me on what I will need. I requested a Loaner vehicle since I dropped it off and they said no because the dealer does not provide that and would have to get approval from GM to grant me the loaner vehicle bast off the diagnostic.

I called for a tow truck Monday the June 15th and had truck delivered to dealership. Ive been told, they are looking into? Beyond that, nothing more.

The loss of radio audio is an inconvenience, but the loss of safety feature alerts is a clear hazard. My dealership has suggested this may be related to a recent software update; however, there is no apparent correlation between the updates and when the issue occurs.

I have taken my vehicle to the dealership, Preston, Hood Chevrolet, Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The problem I’m having is the avoidance system! Not getting warning nor will the vehicle stop an emergency situation where I’m going forward in a vehicle stops quickly in front of me nor will it work if a person is walking behind my vehicle or if there’s a vehicle behind my vehicle when I’m backing out of my driveway. They keep telling me everything checks out on the computer and they keep saying it’s normal and it’s only meant to possibly slow down the vehicle before a crash. They do not give me any definitive answer and they also escalated to GM response is basically the same thing. You can read all over the Internet that a lot of people have this problems. I have friends that own the same truck and it works perfectly. My truck will not. It’s very frustrating because one of the reasons why I bought a new vehicle like this was for those safety reasons. Also, when I am pulling out of a parking spot and turning the wheel, the truck accelerates by itself and goes into cruise control. Only doing a few miles per hour. And this might be because of the location of the activation of the cruise control switch. It is a lever on the steering wheel and it’s easily to engage. And I don’t understand why it would engage at such a slow speed. I’ve had several situations where a vehicle has stopped suddenly in front of me and my truck will not respond at all with a late morning shaking of the seats no alarm and no breaking luckily I was able to stop in time with my own reaction. The technicians will not work on this because the computer says it’s OK. It seems like they have technicians but not mechanics. My opinion. I spent a lot of money for this truck and I’m [XXX] although my reactions are still pretty good. I’m looking at a vehicle that will assist if I do not react. This vehicle doesn’t react and I paid for this and I am afraid when I need the avoidance system, it won’t work. Component Affected: Visibility: Interior Trim / Entertainment Center Bezel Glare Description of Safety Hazard:The interior styling of the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado RST contains a design flaw involving the polished chrome trim strip located directly below the main central entertainment center/infotainment screen. Because of the angle of this specific trim piece relative to the driver's seating position, direct sunlight hits this lower screen border and reflects a concentrated, blinding glare directly into the driver’s eyes. This causes immediate, severe visual impairment and a temporary loss of forward visibility while driving. This distraction and blindness prevent the driver from safely observing the road and traffic, creating an imminent crash hazard. The manufacturer has failed to provide a non-reflective, matte finish for this specific entertainment center trim to prevent this hazard.

My 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 6.2L V8 experienced an internal engine failure at approximately 16,500 miles, requiring replacement of the entire long block under the factory powertrain warranty. The authorized Chevrolet dealership diagnosed internal cylinder wall scoring, and the engine could not be repaired. The failed engine should still be available for inspection if requested. About 4,000 miles after my last oil change, while the Oil Life Monitor still showed about 50% remaining, the vehicle repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings. I checked the oil level with the engine cold, and the dipstick showed the level was normal, so I believed the problem was a faulty oil level sensor. The next day, the warning changed to "Add Engine Oil," and I immediately took the truck to the dealership. The dealership confirmed the issue was not the sensor but internal engine damage caused by cylinder wall scoring, requiring replacement of the entire long block. Fortunately, the engine did not seize while I was driving, and no crash or injury occurred. However, before the failure was diagnosed, the only warning was repeated oil level messages that did not match the actual oil level. There were no abnormal engine noises, knocking, or noticeable loss of power. A driver could reasonably assume it was only a sensor issue and continue driving without realizing the engine had already suffered severe internal damage. If the engine failed while driving, it could create a serious safety hazard. Although GM replaced the engine under warranty, I remain concerned that a vehicle less than 16 months old with only 16,500 miles experienced such a major engine failure. I am also concerned that similar failures could occur after the factory powertrain warranty expires, leaving owners responsible for repairs that other Silverado owners have reported can cost approximately $13,000. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether similar failures may also affect 2025 6.2L V8 model.

I have had my vehicle to a GM dealership three times now due to the check engine light coming on and getting an emission warning. 2/13/26 was the first visit. It was right after I filled up my tank with gas that the check engine light came on when I started driving down the road. I got an appointment at a GM dealership. They put the scanner on it and received the codes. They drove it back to the service garage and I went back to work. I received information from them that they could not fix anything because the check engine light had disappeared and there were no codes available anymore. I picked up my vehicle and a week later 2/20/26 the same thing happened after I got gas. The check engine light came on and an emission warning on my Chevy app. I stopped back into the same dealership. And the same thing happened. Scanner, codes, and then they disappeared. The third time I got gas the same thing happened again with the check engine light and emission system warning. This was on 2/28/2026. I went to a different dealership and the exact same thing happened..... scanner, codes received, schedule an appointment to get it in the following week, started the vehicle and pulled out. The check engine light was still on at that time. And the check engine light disappeared once again as I was driving down the road. Each time this has happened I have been able to use my remote start via my Chevy app along with trying to use my handheld key fob remote start. The dealerships have told me this is normal for this type of check engine light emission warning. When researching this issue there are a lot of people experiencing the same thing. Scratching my head wondering why there's not a recall on this.

It was in the shop 3 times prior: first time was “bad fuel”, second had my fuel rail and fuel filter replaced, and third time I had my high pressure fuel pump replaced (also had a rear crank seal leak). While approaching a stop sign, my vehicle gave me a check engine light with a “Reduced Acceleration” warning followed by several other warning messages and then ultimately lost power and shut off give me no ability to steer or brake my vehicle. Luckily, my vehicle came to stop and no crash or injuries occurred. If this had been at higher speeds the outcome could have been fatal to myself or another driver/passenger on the road. This incident also gave me a P0087, P12A6, P228A, and P228B error codes. I was able to restart the vehicle and make it home. The following day, the “Reduced Acceleration” message once again appeared. The vehicle is currently at the dealer awaiting diagnosis and repair.

My dealership has suggested this may be related to a recent software update; however, there is no apparent correlation between the updates and when the issue occurs.

On 3/30/2026, I was driving down the road & suddenly my dash filled with warning lights about brakes, abs etc. Steering the vehicle became almost impossible because power steering was gone. When I attempted to brake, I also found that I had very little braking. The vehicle has 11,036 miles. Got the vehicle to the dealership - Capital Chevrolet from which it was purchased. It has been diagnosed as a major brake failure. Master Cylinder, booster, reservoir, seals etc. Extremely dangerous situation without any early warning signs, lights or notices.

Prior to this incident, I had been having issues with my fuel management system give a “reduced acceleration” warning (codes P0087, P228B) in weather below 28-30F.

My 2025 Chevy Silverado ZR2 has experienced the same dangerous system failure five times. While driving, every warning light on the dash activates, I lose power steering, and the vehicle completely shuts down and won’t restart. This creates an extreme safety risk — the first failure happened on a local road, but most recently, it occurred while my family was driving out of state during a holiday. The truck has now been out of service for over 50 cumulative days across these repeated incidents. GM has accepted a Lemon Law claim but has not resolved it, leaving me without a vehicle and no clear path forward. These systemic failures present serious risks to me, my family, and other drivers. The latest failure occurred in July 2025, and the vehicle remains at Bill Cramer Chevrolet in Panama City Beach, FL with no resolution. I am still making loan payments and paying for transportation out-of-pocket, without any support from the manufacturer.

While driving on the freeway with my family in the middle of a snowstorm, my 2025 Silverado 1500 with 8,000 miles on it, suddenly dropped gears down to 1st without warning. The check engine light went on and I later found out it was the valve body that caused it. This could have cause serious harm to my family had I not maintained control of the vehicle. The dealership fixed the problem only for it to happen again a month later. The truck is still in the shop.

It is not Bluetooth or anything interfering I’ve shut my phone off to test. This happens with MANY people. Most people complain online about the stereo and directional sounds being completely muted, but forget to mention or don’t notice that the parking and collision assistance sounds are out as well. It took me a while to realize. I have video of it happening as well

The glass on the driver's side mirror fluctuates when driving at speeds above approximately 35 MPH. It gets more intense the faster the vehicle travels. It's very distracting and also causes the mirror to go out of adjustment. I have had the mirror assembly changed 2 times by the dealer I'm still having the same issue. I filed a complaint with GM. After I filed a complaint the dealer installed ballast on the back side of the glass for counter balance per GM Engineers. That still did not fix the problem. I feel this is a design issue with the mirror. I am not the only owner with this issue.

A trailer hitch has an sticker stating the Tow Vehicle Maximum Trailer rating for the hitch. Owner's manual and towing safety stickers on the driver's side door only state the maximum dead weight for a hitch...that is the weight applied if a trailer is attached to the tow vehicle's hitch ball. This sticker give you maximum if a trailer is installed with a weight distribution hitch assembly. On my 2025 Silverado, as well on four other Silverados I viewed at a dealer, and a few GMC Sierras, also viewed at dealers, the sticker is applied; however, impossible to read the specifications supplied by the sticker. I have uploaded two files: One, is the sticker as viewed on a 2016 GMC that is attached to the bottom of the hitch, easy to read and obtain the SAFETY information contained. Second photo is how the sticker is attached to my 2025 Silverado (and as noted on all other vehicles I viewed at dealerships) and as you can see, the specifications are not readable. I even tried a mirror and not enough room for the mirror to fit and allow viewing of the stats. The information on this sticker is required to SAFELY pull a trailer with a weight distribution style hitch assembly. And to require a sticker, but not make as requirement it needs to be legible is ludicrous. Thanks
