Recalls and owner complaints reported to NHTSA
Compared with the typical (middle) count of 1,110 complaints across the 6 model-year 2014 half-ton trucks we cover. Best-selling trucks naturally collect more complaints because more of them are on the road.
Price & value
We don't guess at prices. Get a real value for the exact truck from Kelley Blue Book, then see how the asking price compares.
Is it a good deal?
- Look up the truck on Kelley Blue Book. Choose its cab, trim, options, miles, condition and your ZIP code, and note the private party value (or the fair purchase price if you're buying from a dealer).
- Enter that value and the asking price below.
Enter both numbers to see the deal rating.
The rating only compares the two numbers you enter: within 5% of the value is a good deal, 5–15% under is a great deal, and more than 15% under is a buy-it-now price. Know Your Truck isn't affiliated with Kelley Blue Book. Rust, accident history, lifts and mods, and service records all change what a truck is worth, so always get a pre-purchase inspection.

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2015-2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, and 2014-2015 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles that may have received an incorrect replacement tensioner cable assembly as part of a previous recall remedy or a subsequent repair. The flexible steel cable connecting the driver's seat belt to the outboard side of the seat may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate.
Risk: A broken pretensioner cable reduces the effectiveness of the driver's seat belt, increasing the risk of injury.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver seat belt lap pretensioner, free of charge. The recall began on May 5, 2021. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at [phone removed], and GMC customer service at [phone removed]. GM's number for this recall is N212330040.

If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.
Risk: Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at [phone removed] or GMC customer service at [phone removed]. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.

During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
Risk: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. Vehicle is experiencing intermittent electrical issues, including vehicle completely shutting off while driving, driver window security warning message appears, radio, outside temp and fuel economy will reset when starting the truck. Last time it shut down while coming to a stop, a message appeared on the driver information screen saying “3 key programmed to vehicle”. Sometimes before it shuts down while driving, the radio and dash lights go out followed by engine stalling and there are different messages that appear briefly, like, service stabilitrac, roll driver window down & 3 keys programmed. The truck has shut down on me while operating 7 times in the last 3 months! This is EXTREMELY dangerous as i lose power steering & brakes! It has happened while in the middle of a busy intersection, in a round about, pulling into a parking spot, driveway and while driving straight on a road. I have cleaned & checked all ground locations, replaced the battery and alternator, cleaned battery terminals and Cables, checked all the fuses and nothing has made it stop!

When my speed decreases to slow for a turn, traffic, red light,etc-I lose complete power in my entire vehicle. A too fast message pops up on dash about Stabilitrak. If I throw it in neutral fast enough it’s fine, but if I don’t, my truck loses all power and I have to open and close my door, restart my truck, the dash tells me to open and close my driver window, and it drives again but my time and date restarts on my dash screen like I disconnected the battery. It doesn’t happen every day. But when it does, it’s scary because I can’t get out of the road. This occurs unexpectedly several times a month for the past few months. I’ve checked for loose battery cables, etc

NOTE-We are visiting DE, but reside in Virginia. I recently experienced problems with my "Wheel Speed Sensor System" on my 2014 Chevy Silverado, LT, 5.3L V8 4WD, Crew Cab. My local garage in DE (our Condo is in DE- our home-residence is Virginia) looked at the vehicle and said I was having a problem with the wheel speed sensors partially locking up my brakes and causing a drag when driving. The garage in Newark, DE- Littles Garage told me that their system said there was a recall on my vehicle and that I'd need to have service done at a Chevrolet Dealership at no cost. I went to 2 Dealerships who stated my Truck's VIN did not show up in their system as having any active recalls. Reading the Recall notice, I see that GM contacted the Dealerships directly (I guess not to make the recall public) who have/had sold this vehicle with instructions to contact owners directly; however, I purchased the Vehicle in SC from a Ford Dealership in 2017. Since RECALL # N192261050 is stated as a safety problem that could cause my truck to be a dangerous safety hazard that could cause serious damage and even death to occupants of the vehicle. I understand from my garage that the issue is intermittent once discovered, even as I have not experienced anything for about a week, and it can re-appear at any time. You can understand that I need the NHTSA to help me resolve this issue and if I am deserving of a Recall Fix, to help me with Dealerships in DE. NuCar Chevrolet of New Castle, DE has been recommended to me by Littles Garage as one of the best Chevy Dealerships. NOTE I am visiting DE and need to get back to Virginia shortly (I'm hesitant to drive this vehicle at highway speeds). I appreciate any help to resolve these issues and to possibly help me to have a Dealership in DE provide me the applicable safety fix in accordance with the subject Recall.

I have not had any incidents thank goodness. But I did take it to the shop and they told me as the vacuum pump. It wouldn’t stop my vehicle and I was always nervous about hitting someone or causing an accident. Before then, I had change the breaking pad, taking it to the shop to check on their transmission and none of that was the problem. Please make a recall on this. People could cause or be involving in an accident. It mostly happened when I’m driving in slow between 2-5 miles per hour. It always scare me when backing out of my driveway because the brakes wouldn’t work. I do not have any pictures. I would rather take this to get fixed before causing an accident.

While driving, the vehicle suddenly developed a severe, loud mechanical ticking noise from the engine compartment, immediately followed by a drastic loss of engine power and violent vehicle shaking. The vehicle experienced an active cylinder misfire caused by a failure within the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system, where a cylinder deactivation lifter collapsed and became stuck. This mechanical failure creates an extreme safety hazard. The sudden drop in throttle response, engine stuttering, and loss of power impair my ability to maintain highway speeds, merge safely, or accelerate away from oncoming traffic. The engine stumbles significantly under load, risking a rear-end collision on public roads. The vehicle remains unrepaired at this time due to the catastrophic nature of the valvetrain defect and the severe risk of complete engine seizure while in motion. General Motors has failed to issue a safety recall for this known structural valvetrain defect, which poses an immediate hazard to drivers on the road.

I own a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado equipped with a GM V8 engine that experienced significant engine failure symptoms consistent with known GM engine defect issues and related recall/service campaign concerns. Prior to failure, the vehicle began exhibiting abnormal engine noises, warning lights, performance issues, and symptoms indicating internal engine damage. The condition worsened and resulted in major engine failure requiring extensive repair or engine replacement. The failure created safety concerns due to the potential for sudden loss of power and loss of propulsion while driving. Based on the symptoms, model year, and engine configuration, I believe the failure may be related to known GM engine issues involving internal engine components, lifter failures, AFM/DOD system failures, bearing damage, or related defects that have been the subject of recalls, special coverage adjustments, technical service bulletins, or investigations affecting GM trucks and SUVs. I believe the vehicle should qualify for coverage, repair assistance, recall-related repairs, or special policy consideration from General Motors due to the nature of the engine failure and the known history of similar failures affecting comparable GM vehicles. I am requesting that GM review the vehicle history, diagnostics, and failure condition to determine eligibility for recall coverage, special coverage adjustment, warranty assistance, or reimbursement related to the engine failure.

Over the course of ownership the chassis of this vehicle has gotten horrendously corroded, which has caused structural components of the frame to begin to develop rust holes needing repair. These holes in the chassis are caused by the incorrect application of the factory chassis wax coating and has caused the entire frame to become deeply rusted through in many areas. Additionally I have been through two transmissions, the first occurring at around 55,000 miles of use, and the second around 105,000 miles. Seems there is a point of failure after around 50,000 miles on these transmissions.

The cause of the problem appears to stem from a poorly applied or degrading wax coating, which, over time, peels off, leaving the frame exposed to corrosion, particularly in harsh weather conditions such as heavy snow and road salt exposure. The result is catastrophic—my Silverado’s frame and crossmembers are now severely compromised, and the integrity of the vehicle is in question.

My truck is a 2014 with only 53,000 miles on it. I bought it used in 2016. (it was still under factory warranty) When I tried to get my truck inspected last month the shop told me the frame had holes and cracks in it, was not safe to drive and needed repaired/replaced. I did some research and found SB 19-NA-255 regarding my truck. This issue seems to be a wide spread issue with that truck. I took it to the Chevrolet dealer I bought the truck from (WOOD Chevrolet in Carroltown, PA) to ask about the bulletin. They called their GM rep and he told them there was nothing they (GM or the dealer) could do about it. This is a known safety issue and I believe GM should take care of the repairs. Right now I had a vehicle that is not safe to drive, has very low miles and is not safe to drive.

I have a 2014 chevy silverado that I purchased brand new from the dealer. The truck just hit 100,000 miles and recently had a clunking noise from the rear undercarriage. After having it inspected, it has come to my attention that the frame is rusted and rear crossmembers are rusted out causing the rear shock mount to break, and I'm not sure if the frame is salvageable. After doing some research, I found a recall for my year silverado for the undercoating on the frame(not properly done from the factory) but my VIN is not in the recall. I'm at a loss being the year of the vehicle and mileage on the truck considering it might be undeliverable and unfixable

I have a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, covered by multiple Technical Service Bulletins regarding issues with premature frame rust due to a manufacturing issue. During the Factory Warranty Period, Chevrolet did not acknowledge or repair the issues noted in the TSBs. A 10 year old truck, with 81k miles on it is no longer safe to operate due to extensive damage to the frame from Chevrolet failing to fulfill their own commitments in resolving this issue. There has been no abuse or failures by myself as the owner that would result in the current unsafe condition. Due to this being an extremely widespread and known issue, this must be further investigated and upgraded to a full recall. Without a full on recall, unsafe vehicles will continue to be utilized on roadways, causing safety concerns to owners, passengers, and others on the roadway. Chevrolet has just refused to repair the damage due to the expiration of the factory warranty period. The vehicle was in possession of Chevrolet several times during the warranty period, but the resolution and repair was not completed. Per the TSB, this was to be completed and Chevrolet acknowledged the issue. Since not all dealerships have the ability or willingness to address this concern, Chevrolet must be put as the responsible party through a recall to rectify this, allowing owners to drive safe vehicles.

This truck has rust and giant holes in the frame, I'm not even sure if its safe to drive. I see that Chevy doesn't want to claim ownership of the manufacturing mistake. I can't even sell this truck because it would never pass a safety inspection. Chevy needs to be held accountable and do a recall to those of us who are stuck with the vehicles and fix their mistake. I don't even think a dealer would be able to accept as a trade in. I see other posts here that trade ins were refused due to the frame damage. YOUR AGENCY NEEDS TO DO ANOTHER OR FIRST INVESTIGATION REGARDING THIS SAFETY PROBLEM!!!

The bus is always parked on the road, my phone slid off the console, when I reached for it, I accidentally moved the truck to the right, and before I hit the bus, I did not have enough time to correct my mistake. I have forgotten everything that occurred from Saturday the 18th up until Friday the 24th. I kept massive migraines the entire week. Now I just have some headaches. The part that scared me the most, is when I realized, not one single air bag deployed. I personally, am so thankful I was able walk away from it. I will never buy another Chevy Silverado.

Hi, I had all my side curtain airbags deploy in my truck without any accident and under normal driving conditions. The fronts did not deploy. I had no warning lights or airbag light prior to this event. I spoke with my insurance and they wanted to have my truck inspected. I took it to my local GM dealer. They inspected my truck and looked at the data from the airbag system and determined that they found no reason for why they should've gone off. The force from the airbag was such that I was in a daze and did not know what was going on. If this would've happened on the freeway during heavy traffic I am certain I would not have stayed in my lane and caused a very serious crash involving other vehicles. Lucky this was not the case and there were no cars close to me. The next morning when I woke up I had severe neck pain and an impaired memory. I went into urgent care to get looked at. They performed an x-ray and said it was okay and that it was just severe whiplash.

I called GM and the Lady told me that there 5 recalls on this truck of which 4 were taken care of. there still remains one left undone. I purchased this truck from a private owner. the one remaining is the seat belt wire issue. A new warning has appeared on the dash, saying service trailer brake system. This a non stop warning while driving the truck. Very distracting and dangerous. I looked on you tube to see if anyone has this problem. yes there are some. One incident stated that to resolve this issue, someone needed to check the trailer receptacle plugin for corrosion, or broken wires. IF all is good there check the other four connectors under the truck on the frame. Finally if these are all good, then check the fuse box under the hood for the fuse for this braking system. The representative that I talked to from GM said to take the vehicle to a local Dealer for analysis to see where the problem is in the trailer braking system. Dealer labor rates are high. The representative stated that there is a payment assistance program available through GM if a Dealer takes care of the situation. Is this true? I need this truck every day for work. Noticeable at night. Headlights on, turn signal on, foot on brake slowing down, making a turn, 1) headlights flicker, 2) headlights flicker and complete dash goes black, or 3) all of #2 and steering goes stiff. Has been happening more often. Last time, during the day, turning against oncoming traffic and engine shutdown, started again, shutdown and started, again with dash going black and steering went stiff. When the engine stops and restarts, it does it on its own. I don’t need to turn the ignition key. Very unnerving. My wife won’t drive the truck. Safety at risk is a “yes”. I have noticed when this all happens, the traction control wording comes on the dash and a bell rings. All this has been happening over the last six months. Vehicle only has 94K miles on it.

Not related to my vehicle: Even in my truck, the frequency of oncoming and rear vehicle headlight blinding is of great concern. I have noticed that the problem occurs more often with modified pickups of heavy duty pickups. One simple correction could be to limit the absolute height of any driving headlamps. Additionally, in an effort to improve driver visibility by focusing the beams to a concentrated area of view, vs the old heads where the lights failed at the edges of the field of view has greatly contributed to the problem.

My vehicle produced a check engine light then it started to be hard to start . Then I started to smell fuel in the cab and strong smell of fuel under the hood . I cannot see the leak so it has to be the HPFP located under the intake manifold and the fuel is being absorbed by the insulation located under the intake. In January 2014 the GM corporation issued a voluntary or bulletin for this year truck and the 5.3,engine for having installed the wrong fuel regulator in these pumps. Bulletin number 13370A states this exact problem. This vehicle was produced in a Canadian plant therefore fell through the cracks in there recall/bulletin . This is a safety problem that I cannot get repaired under warranty or anything. This vehicle is prone to start on fire that’s why they issued the bulletin but since it was Canada born they really do not want to help me and say it isn’t on their recall list even though it is the EXACT problem they list . And since it isn’t on their recall list they won’t even look at the bulletin to see about goodwill warranty either to cover the repair. Why is this vehicle with the same year and same make and same engine excluded , because it’s made in Canada it doesn’t make the list of recalls in the GM world.
- Filed Nov 2025
This in addition to complaint form number:11699917 I have found the two forms issued by the GM global corp. One is a recall the other a bulletin about the HPFP fuel regulator to be replaced because it was known to fail. The first actual recall (13370 ) states that 25,000 vehicles were involved. The symptoms they stated are all the same that the vehicle I own are having including fuel fumes in the cab and under the hood . In 13370 right at the top it states urgent so this problem is definitely a safety concern for fire or explosion. In 13370A they eliminated a lot of these details including the words urgent and the amount of vehicles that were involved in this recall. And at the bottom of 13370A it also states that the following two paragraphs does not pertain to Canada , THIS is important because my vehicle was born in Canada . So everything stated above that involves Canada manufacturing also. So this means my vehicle should be included in this recall also like I stated in my complaint to this safety commission 11699917 . My vehicle has the 5.3 , it’s a 1500 Silverado and it’s a 2014. Recalls don’t expire for safety as far as I heard. There is no reasonable explanation as to why this vehicle was excluded except it was manufactured in Canada and fell through the cracks of their recall . Without a recall they will not look at any bulletin for this safety issue on my vehicle. This is a very expensive repair to be done and GM knows this also.

EVERYTHING, it started with spark plugs and boots which is normal, then all of a sudden one ignition coil after the other, then the transmission, now it's the valve cover gaskets, the ENGINE oil cooler lines, the rear main seal, the oil pan itself, like literally everything. The places I took it advised probably getting a whole new engine. Mind you I just financed this truck 2 years ago. The transmission cost me $6,700 dollars out of pocket because my power train warranty wouldn't cover it because some wire. I don't know but there is seriously big problems with this year make and model. Also, the catalytic converters are bad and the exhaust manifold. All these things can't be wrong all at the same time unless there was a major issue prior to me financing when Chevrolet spit these trucks out.

Hello, I noticed sidewall bulging on all 4 of my cooper discoverer A/T 275/55R20. After googling I saw that a recall exists (NHTSA campaign nr:21T002000) Then I called and sent all my DOT to cooper and they said my tires are the Wall-mart special version which is not included in this recall. So I tried Wall-mart and they are not helping either (no recall exists is always their answer...) My 4 tires are the exact size and produced in the week listet in the recall 21T002000 and show the exact same issues (big bulges in sidewall which are filled with air) just the fact that it is a Discoverer A/T tire not a Discoverer A/T3 4S makes cooper tell me my tires are not in the recall. I believe there are more faulty tires out there and you should look into this since 4 out of 4 tires I have are bad. I am happy to bring my car to you guys to analyse
