Recalls and owner complaints reported to NHTSA
Compared with the typical (middle) count of 226 complaints across the 7 model-year 2024 half-ton trucks we cover. Best-selling trucks naturally collect more complaints because more of them are on the road.
Price & value
We don't guess at prices. Get a real value for the exact truck from Kelley Blue Book, then see how the asking price compares.
Is it a good deal?
- Look up the truck on Kelley Blue Book. Choose its cab, trim, options, miles, condition and your ZIP code, and note the private party value (or the fair purchase price if you're buying from a dealer).
- Enter that value and the asking price below.
Enter both numbers to see the deal rating.
The rating only compares the two numbers you enter: within 5% of the value is a good deal, 5–15% under is a great deal, and more than 15% under is a buy-it-now price. Know Your Truck isn't affiliated with Kelley Blue Book. Rust, accident history, lifts and mods, and service records all change what a truck is worth, so always get a pre-purchase inspection.

Original 6.2L engine was replaced subsequent to NHTSA Report 11724274 from Catatrophic engine failure on January 31, 2026 at 25,274 miles. Original engine was manufactured on May 30, 2024, but Silverado HC was manufactured on June 9, 2024, so it was not captured in existing NHTSA Campaign 25V‑274 and subsequent GM 6.2L Recall and is not currently included in expanded factory 10/150,000 powertrain warranty. Due to original catastrophic engine failure due to crank and connecting rod, covered transmission damage was discovered, truck is currently on third Torque Converter and Transmission has been out of truck for repairs to Valve Body and 4-10/reverse piston twice. Replacement 6.2L engine lasted 3,900 miles before exhibiting significant Lifter Tick Bank One/Driver Side, Tear down revealed failed lifter which wiped out a lobe on Cam. GM TAC refused engine replacement, instead replaced one Cam, 16 lifters and trays on Bank One. Drove truck for approximately 300 miles after repair and Engine began exhibiting significant knocking from bottom of engine, second replacement engine is now being installed. All routine maintenance and Warranty work has been performed and documented at GM certified Dealer Service Department.

While operating the vehicle, the front electric drive motor suffered a failure, triggering reduced propulsion warnings and rendering the primary electric powertrain inoperable. The vehicle was towed to an authorized GM dealership service center, where the defect was confirmed. To replace the failed front drive unit, technicians had to drop the front subframe cradle and completely dismantle the front suspension and steering assembly. During inspection of the disassembled components, severe mechanical galling and metal scoring were documented on the cast aluminum front steering knuckle mounting boss. Reinstalling suspension and steering hardware against structurally compromised, gouged aluminum presents a severe safety hazard of metal fatigue, stress fracture, or joint failure under dynamic loads. This vehicle is factory-rated to tow heavy loads. Dynamic cyclic forces transferred through a compromised front knuckle assembly—particularly when towing on a weight-distribution hitch—create an acute risk of structural failure and loss of directional control at highway speeds. The vehicle has remained grounded and out of service at the dealership for over 50 continuous days undergoing this high-voltage and chassis teardown.

This vehicle is a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 featuring a 6.2L V8 engine and a 10 speed transmission, currently at 58,136 miles. The vehicle was experiencing a severe shudder. An official GM Technical Assistance Case (TAC) engineering case was opened on July 30, 2026 confirming a verified DFM cylinder deactivation or valve train malfunction. However, on August 21, 2026 the dealership falsified the repair log by printing ‘Concern Not Duplicated’ to the manufacturer, while physically installing an unapproved aftermarket Range Technology DFM Eliminator module into the vehicle’s engine harness to artificially override the factory emissions and cylinder deactivation programming to mask the mechanical failure. This vehicle is part of the active NHTSA Engineer Analysis EA26005, and the manufacturer’s dealer network is actively using unapproved third party hardware shortcuts to evade mandatory warranty repairs before the vehicle’s 60,000 mile factory powertrain limit expires. I called GM to report and request a warranty freeze and regional field engineer to go to a different dealership and was told they can’t freeze a warranty because the TAC was closed on August 28, 2026 as resolved even though it was not resolved.

I applied brake and pedal went straight to floor without any stopping. I had to steer into a ditch to avoid a collision resulting in more damage to steering system, frame, windshield and body. This was complete brake system failure and yes is available for inspection. I was in a very rural area at time and was able to avoid a collision however, if I had been in city or on highway it could have easily resulted in injury or fatalities. The problem is currently under federal investigation and has been widely reported as a serious problem which may soon result in widespread recall. The vehicle has not been inspected yet by dealership or anywhere else as it just happened 18 hours ago. There were no warning lights or chimes before the incident when pedal went to the floor. After incident dashboard lit up with warning lights including, Brake, ABS, Traction control, power steering, Collision system, Engine light, Steering Column and others. Truck speed limited to 43 mph. And pedal still goes to the floor without applying brakes.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ, 3.0L Duramax. When the DEF system begins displaying the “miles until 65 MPH max speed” warning, the warning takes over the Driver Information Center and cannot be acknowledged or dismissed with the steering-wheel thumbwheel. This prevents me from accessing unrelated DIC information, including Trip 1/Trip 2 and other vehicle information, potentially for hundreds of miles. The truck recently received the latest available software update. I am requesting that GM document this as a software/usability defect and provide a case number. The DEF warning should remain available without preventing access to other DIC functions.

OnStar Telemetry Control module suddenly failed. Systems such as automatic crash detection, directions, mapping and OnStar emergency connection and SOS all not working. Rests did not work and truck is at the dealership for repairs. Internet reports that this is a common issue with 24-25 models but GMC not proactively repairing or compensating owners for repair. They issued a service bulletin for some models but are resisting a recall to address safety issues. GM Service update N262547330.

The all around vehicle camera system fails on average every 6 months. As the dealership is far away in our area, I have to take a 1/2 day to full day off work to take it over. I believe we are now on the third replacement camera module, in need of a fourth that was just replaced less than two months ago. GM makes it unreasonable to deal with. They require you drive over to the dealership just so they can see the same problem is occuring and only then will order parts, requiring a second appointment. The problem is the same and this is just adding more time to the failing safety issue which is of major concern because we can't just drop in easily because we are in a remote area. It sometimes takes over a month for me to be able to schedule a time to go over there --- so I go many weeks with a failing camera system.

Check engine light repeatedly comes on. Take it in, multiple Chevy dealerships “fix” the errors such as fuel line pump 5x, gear shift issues, modules that went bad and various other issues. I Routinely take care of vehicle (oil changes, tire rotations and service when needed) This truck will randomly shut off while driving (stop and go traffic ) I was told to turn off the start/stop which I do every time I get in the truck. However it recently wouldn’t turn over after going through a car wash, it would try and try till I manually stopped it. It’s running rough now and I pray everyday the check engine light doesn’t come on or that it doesn't just shut off mid drive. This truck has been hell on wheels and I bought it with 10 miles on it. Summary of Incident: On March 28, 2026, while traveling at 70 MPH on the Florida Turnpike, the vehicle suffered an instantaneous loss of motive power. The engine died abruptly with no warning. Upon reaching the shoulder, the electronic transmission locked, refusing to shift into Neutral or Park. The engine cranks but will not start. 1. Component Failure & Availability: The exact component is currently unknown, but the failure involves the Powertrain, Fuel System, and Electronic Transmission Control. The vehicle is currently at an authorized dealership and is available for inspection by the manufacturer or NHTSA upon request. 2. Safety Risk: The sudden loss of power at highway speeds created an immediate risk of a rear-end collision. Because the electronic transmission locked and would not allow the vehicle to be shifted into Neutral, it became a fixed object on a high-speed shoulder. It could not be pushed to a safer location, increasing the risk of a secondary accident. 3. Problem Reproduction: The vehicle was towed directly to an authorized Chevrolet dealership. As of this filing, the dealership is in possession of the vehicle, but the failure has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a technician as they are awaiting formal diagnostic commencement. 4. Inspections: The vehicle was inspected by a roadside towing professional for transport. It is currently at the manufacturer’s authorized service center awaiting a formal diagnostic inspection. No police or insurance inspections have occurred. 5. Warning Symptoms: There were no warning lamps, "Check Engine" lights, or messages prior to the failure. No symptoms like rough idling or unusual noises occurred. The vehicle performed normally until the moment of total power loss.

Truck has been in and out of certified dealer 3 times and problems still occurring at random. Dealer has stated they are not able to duplicate issues and can't do anything. Issues happening pose risk while driving when codes come on making all standard safety features not to work in event of a accident. Also making truck not mobile when Park brake sets in event of accident.

On 7 or 8 occasions while navigating parking lots/driveway turnaround, i bumped the resume switch on the steering wheel and the truck took off accelerating rapidly from 2-4 mph speed until I disengaged with the brake. Someone with slower reactions or unaware of what is going on is going to get hurt by this. I believe it's tied to collision avoidance system and the adaptive cruise control mode. This system will allow cruise to stay engaged even as it slows you to a halt in, e.g. a rush hour slowdown, but if it slows you to some speed just greater than zero, and the traffic ahead speeds up, it will speed back up to the cruise setting. Similarly, when cruise is disengaged by brake action, but there is still a stored value in cruise control, if you accidentally hit resume at slow speeds the logic is treating it like a traffic situation. So the old 20 or 25mph minimum engagement speed no longer applies. As for why I inadvertently hit resume, it has to do with the raised momentary rocker switch at the 9 oclock position on the steering wheel. If you make a turn with your palm against steering wheel. For example, on a left turn, if the wheel is turning counterclockwise and your left palm is in the 9 o'clock position, it can rub against the raised cruise control rocker triggering the resume function, and off she will go! A flush or recessed button/switch would have been a better choice here. At this point, a software change would be the best solution to ignore the resume function below a certain speed.

Vehicle suddenly stalls and reduces speed at different times with no warning. At first it would show that message after car washes or rainy days but now randomly it’ll reduce speed in unexpected moments causing safety concerns. It reduces speed, stalls, drives forcefully, and shows a “reduced acceleration drive with care”. Sudden stalls have become a danger to my family and myself as we depend on this car to get to and from on a daily basis. Dealership states it’s the TCM but not covered under warranty. On [XXX], I was going to Atlanta, the truck started hesitating harshly while I was passing another driver on a two lane road. The truck wouldn’t accelerate and the paddle seemed to be stuck, I had to pull off the road to avoid a head on collision. On the 30th of May, I took the truck to Allen Turner in Pensacola, Florida where I purchased it and reported the issue, the service department was closed and they sent me next door to a Chevrolet Dealership, which was also closed. On today [XXX], I took the truck out for a test drive, and I had the same incident happen, but this time I pulled into a gas station and shutdown the truck. Once I turned the truck back on, the check engine light came on. I didn’t think I would make it back home, because the truck didn’t accelerate correctly, and when I pressed the gas pedal it didn’t accelerate and was making different noises. The pedal seemed to be stuck, with no acceleration. I recorded a little bit with my phone while trying to drive, but it’s not the best. For the first time I purchased a brand new vehicle off a dealership lot…What a mistake. While the dealership itself was an awful experience I thought it was worth it for a Chevy Silverado. After all my previous one was so reliable. WRONG. The first issue I found was I was unable to shift into reverse to back out of the driveway of a fire station I volunteer at. After driving forward a couple times and shutting the vehicle off and shifting multiple times I had to be towed out in reverse. I was able to drive home but the transmissions slipped once and the vehicle slowed abruptly. The check engine light was now on. I dropped the vehicle off at the dealership over the weekend and on Monday they called and informed me the 2024 Silverado misfired once and nothing was wrong with the transmission. There was nothing they could do. About two months later I was driving to work as a career firefighter/paramedic when my vehicles check engine light came on and a message informed me that I was in “reduced acceleration mode”. I slowly and carefully made my way to work and brought the truck to the dealership after my shift. The check engine light was now on again. They informed me later that day that I had a faulty valve body in my transmission. They “unfortunately” could not give me a completion date on my repair as they had no ETA for the replacement part. It appears the part is in high demand. This makes sense as a quick google search shows this is a widely known issue with the 10 speed transmission. So far I have been unable to get a rental vehicle between the dealership and GM. Aside from my house my 2024 Silverado is the largest purchase of my life. And at 15,000 miles I am without it for the foreseeable future. As a first responder the communities I serve depend on me to respond from home at any hour. My family and I are living in a DIY renovation while also starting a farm business. I need a dependable vehicle and regret spending $53,000 on a new vehicle. I have more to say.

Tried to start the Chevy Silverado 1500 remotely and it was unresponsive using the remote start key fob. The truck was then started with the push start button inside the truck. There was no instrument panel errors or warnings when the truck was first started and began driving it. Upon taking the truck out of park and starting to drive, the brake pedal was extremely hard to push, and the steering was extremely hard to turn. It took a long distance to stop the truck while moving very slowly in a parking lot. The truck was also very hard to steer as if all power steering assistance had failed. The truck was put in park. Immediately after the truck was shifted into park, the instrument panel reported ABS, powertrain and steering column lock errors. After being turned off for 20 minutes, it was restarted and the only error on the instrument panel was a check engine light. The brake pedal pressure returned to normal and the breaking started working. The steering was now easy to turn and working as well. It was drove slowly, a very short distance to the dealership where it has been for the last week and a half. They have diagnosed and replaced the ECM, ABS and master cylinder. They continue to receive braking system error codes.

At just over 36,000 miles, the vehicle randomly started jerking to either side of the road. It's not continuous and happens at random intervals while driving. Sometimes the steering wheel would jerk with the movement of the tires, other times, it felt as if the steering wheel had disengaged for a moment. The first time it happened, we were traveling on a highway at 55mph and were jerked towards oncoming traffic. I immediately stopped the vehicle and turned around to head back home at a safer rate of speed. The steering issue continued numerous times until my arrival at home. This issue just happened today, so it has not been inspected by anyone yet. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other indications.

I notice that check engine light went on with TC, parking brake service , some pad lock ( dont know what the ped lock is). 2nd time this happen the parking light service light went on and the brakes locked up again in traffic. 0

I braked hard but not soon enough. There was no malfunction warnings or lights displayed before (or after ) the accident showing it to be inoperative. It has been in to the dealer 3 times since. Yes it is available for inspection. Was told that it will not work if you have your foot on brake or accelerator by one technician. This truck use to brake for no reason even going 70 mph on highway. I am pretty sure GM has reprogramed to fix that issue leaving the sensitivitu so low it now does not work at all.

We have had four previously documented issues with the electrical, brake and engine in our truck. Today, we were advised by the dealer that the truck had been fixed, and a new ECM had been installed. They advised they drove the truck for 100 miles and there were no issues. We picked the truck up and on the way home, while on the highway, the truck went into low power mode, the brakes went out, the check engine light and slip light came on. The dash began flashing detection warning lights (see attached photos): Brake system failure 62 MPH top speed, Service steering column lock, Reduced Acceleration drive with care, Service ESC, Service traction control. We immediately turned around and went back to the dealership and showed them what was going on. They took photographs and had the technician come out to look at the vehicle. He looked at the lights and codes and admitted he does not know what is going on. The service manager said that the company representative was coming tomorrow (10/21/25) and that he was going to speak with him and recommend a buyback. We left the truck with the dealer and were given a loaner car. This is the 5th incident with the same issues.

I am writing to report a serious safety concern involving my 2024 Chevrolet Silverado that resulted in a child being locked inside the vehicle with the key fob present inside the car. On March 25 2026, after parking and turning off the vehicle, I exited the driver’s seat with my key fob inside my purse, which remained in the front of the vehicle. I then walked around to remove my daughter from the back seat. During that time, she climbed into the front seat and pressed the interior door lock button, locking all doors. My daughter has autism and is not able to follow instructions or unlock the vehicle on command. As a result, she was locked inside the vehicle with the key fob present inside, and I was unable to gain access from the outside. The vehicle did not prevent the lock from engaging, nor did it allow me to open the door despite the key being inside the vehicle. This situation required emergency assistance (911) to safely remove her from the vehicle. I understand that many vehicles have “lockout prevention” features; however, in this case, the system did not account for a vulnerable occupant inside the vehicle. Allowing the vehicle to be locked from the interior while the key fob is inside—and without any external override—creates a significant child safety risk. I am requesting that Chevrolet review this design behavior as a potential safety issue, specifically: - Why the vehicle allows interior locking when a key fob is detected inside - Why there is no external override to unlock the vehicle when the key is present - Whether a software update or safety feature enhancement can address this risk This is not just a convenience issue—it is a safety hazard that can lead to dangerous outcomes, especially for children or individuals with disabilities. Please confirm receipt of this concern and advise whether this issue has been previously identified or is under review.

While driving on March 23, 2025, we heard a loud bang, we stopped at a gas station shortly thereafter and realized the tailgate had fallen open while driving and struck the trailer hitch. The latch/camera compartment were broken and hanging from where it struck the crank for trailer hitch and the tailgate was damaged (dented). It was taken to the dealership where they advised there is a recall on some models due to this same issue. They checked and advised our truck is not part of recall. We filed a PAC claim with Chevrolet which they are declining to pay. The latch/camera is currently taped into place. It has fallen open while driving one additional time since the first event. We frequently carry things in the bed of truck and our safety and that of anyone behind us could be in jeopardy.

This seems like a significant risk, as this component of the body of my car is at risk of coming apart further due to rattling while driving. I would like your help figuring out a safe solution.

On [XXX], I [XXX] ) experienced the following issues with my new 2024, Chevrolet Silverado - 1500: • Front Windshield Wiper Washer Fluid not spraying/dispensing. • No messages or symbols displayed on the Driver Information Center dashboard indicating Windshield Wiper Washer Fluid Reservoir low/empty. • Inspected the reservoir that holds the fluid and did not observe low/empty. • Took it to the GM dealer 4 times and they were unable to repair. My vehicle has a recurring defect with the windshield washer system where the washer fluid does not dispense when activated. This issue occurred on a new vehicle and has persisted despite service attempts. When the washer fluid fails to spray, I am unable to clear dirt, dust, road debris, or moisture from the windshield while driving. This significantly reduces forward visibility, especially at freeway speeds or in conditions where debris from other vehicles hits the windshield. The inability to clear the windshield immediately creates a safety hazard because it can obstruct the driver’s line of sight and increase the risk of a collision. This issue is not cosmetic, it directly affects safe operation of the vehicle and the driver’s ability to maintain visibility during normal driving conditions. I am reporting this because the defect is ongoing and may affect other vehicles of the same model. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

There is an electrical problem in this vehicle. You can be driving down the road with your high beams on, and they will start flashing. Or they will stop working altogether. Dashboard lights will go out until a restart of the vehicle. ( Speedometer or Tachometer.) The overhead light can just come on driving without you having touched it. The steering wheel controls will stop working. Until you restart the vehicle. The radio has gone out until restart. I have already had to have the transmission replaced in this truck at 24,000 miles. The dealership keeps telling me about these new issues. That unless they find a code. There isn’t a problem. This is not what I paid 62,000 dollars for. The dealer I bought it from is telling me that they will possibly do a buyback. Yet they keep telling me they will get back to me and they don’t. I called the woman who was supposed to call me back. She says she had a family emergency. Chevrolet needs to back their vehicles.

I am writing to formally report a critical safety issue involving the torque converter in my vehicle, which has put my safety and the safety of others at risk. The problem began when I noticed rumbling noises emanating from the underside of the vehicle while driving at slow speeds on any type of road. There were no warning lamps or messages displayed on the vehicle to indicate an issue. This lack of advance notice left me unaware of the potential danger, increasing the risk of an accident. Upon having the vehicle inspected by a certified dealership, it was confirmed that the torque converter had come apart. This malfunction significantly compromised the vehicle’s drivability and posed a serious safety hazard. Sudden loss of power or reduced control, which could occur due to such a failure, puts both the driver and other road users at risk of an accident. I am deeply concerned about the implications of this issue for other vehicles that may have similar defects. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter promptly to determine if it represents a broader safety concern and to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent further incidents. Please feel free to contact me for any additional details or documentation related to this issue. I appreciate your attention to this urgent matter and look forward to your response.

These are two separate incidents. The first one is the seat moves to the left or to the right given the direction of the vehicle. The other incident was when I was reversing into a parking spot. The gear shifted out of reverse and just was in a floating stage. I then had to put it back into reverse to continue it did it twice

The car seat anchor system is very poorly designed and extremely difficult to use. I just spent an hour trying to ensure the seats for our grandchildren are installed correctly. The upper anchors are poorly placed, difficult to access and do not inspire confidence the seats will be secure in the event of an accident. This is after I had to take the truck in for a warranty claim because the lower car seat anchor on the back seat passenger side was covered by factory upholstery and could not be used at all. It’s very frustrating when one attempts to comply with safety regulations but poor design inhibits the proper installation of car seats.

Tire: 275/60R20 I was driving at the top of Bay bridge, MD and the rear tire just blew up and automatically messaged came on the gauge cluster and my phone that there’s 0psi in the tire so I had to stop on top of the bridge and put a spare on which was quite dangerous but I had no choice because I couldn’t drive on the rim, tow truck showed up and helped me, I had only couple ladders on the back so there was almost no additional weight on the tires and at only couple months old vehicle with only 4,900 miles this should’ve happened. I automatically went to the dealership that I bought the truck and showed them the picture where it happened and what exactly happened and at first they wanted me to pay for the tire but I insisted that they will have to replace it for free because they sold me a vehicle with defective tire so days later they did install a new tire as a one time courtesy they said, but I did check on this tire and there’s a 3yr free replacement warranty if it’s a defective tire but the dealer didn’t tell me that, so now I wonder if any of my other tires will have the same defect?

The lower portion of both headlights frosts on the inside of the lamp at temps below freezing. The frosting limits the projection of the beam at night. This problem must be corrected through a recall. GMC has a BULLETIN on this problem, but does not offer a fix.
