Recalls and owner complaints reported to NHTSA
Compared with the typical (middle) count of 384 complaints across the 7 model-year 2023 half-ton trucks we cover. Best-selling trucks naturally collect more complaints because more of them are on the road.
Price & value
We don't guess at prices. Get a real value for the exact truck from Kelley Blue Book, then see how the asking price compares.
Is it a good deal?
- Look up the truck on Kelley Blue Book. Choose its cab, trim, options, miles, condition and your ZIP code, and note the private party value (or the fair purchase price if you're buying from a dealer).
- Enter that value and the asking price below.
Enter both numbers to see the deal rating.
The rating only compares the two numbers you enter: within 5% of the value is a good deal, 5–15% under is a great deal, and more than 15% under is a buy-it-now price. Know Your Truck isn't affiliated with Kelley Blue Book. Rust, accident history, lifts and mods, and service records all change what a truck is worth, so always get a pre-purchase inspection.

My truck went into park while in traffic and engaged the parking brake. I believe it is part of the eTorque electrical stalling failure. I had to turn off the truck, put it in drive, then put it in park, then turn off parking brake, then back into drive.

The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 5 MPH and depressing the brake pedal to stop at a stop sign, the vehicle lost motive power. The SOS warning lights were illuminated momentarily. The contact attempted to turn off and restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was towed to the residence and then towed to the dealer the following day. The dealer diagnosed that the electrical console needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure had occurred twice. The approximate failure mileage was 33,000.

The vehicle developed a turn-signal malfunction in which the turn signal would not operate/cancel properly. An authorized Ram dealership inspected the vehicle and diagnosed a failed Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) that required replacement. The part was backordered for approximately four months. I was later advised to contact another authorized Ram dealership that had the part available, and I scheduled an appointment specifically to have the previously diagnosed SCCM issue repaired. After that appointment, I was advised by the service department that the issue had been fixed. Because I am a truck driver and can be away for four to five months at a time, I later discovered that the same turn-signal problem was still occurring. I contacted the dealership and reported that the problem had not been corrected. I was subsequently told I would need to pay approximately 150 for another diagnostic evaluation, which I declined because the problem had already been diagnosed and I had been told it was repaired. During a recent visit to the same dealership for a separate recall, I asked another service advisor to review the prior service visit. I was informed that their records did not show that the SCCM had been replaced or that the previously diagnosed problem had actually been repaired, despite my having been told at the earlier visit that it was fixed. The turn-signal malfunction remains a safety concern because other motorists may not receive an accurate indication of my intention to turn or change lanes, increasing the risk of a collision. The vehicle and the condition are available for inspection. I have retained service documentation concerning the original diagnosis and subsequent dealership visits.

The truck has done this four times since 01/22/2026. While still moving slowly the truck will do this while going down the highway. One other safety issue was when I merged into traffic on the highway (You have to merge into the fast lane at this location) the truck wouldn't go past 4th gear approximately 40 mph with cars coming up on me at 70. All of these problems correct when I can get the truck restarted.

First incident, vehicle completely lost power and turned off while driving down highway, fortunately I was able to coast in to shoulder and request a tow. Second event the vehicle flashed all warning lights while traveling down interstate and had a quick shudder. This was similar to first incident. However, lights eventually cleared themselves and power wasn’t lost. Third incident vehicle warning lights flashed on and lost power. Eventually restarted and drove to dealership. Mechanic visually witnessed vehicle lose power again while in inspection bay. Engine control module was replaced during visit. Two weeks later, vehicle failed to start again with same symptoms of all the warning lights and check engine lights being on. Vehicle was able to start next day and was driven straight to dealership where it currently sits. These repeated and spontaneous engine failures, including when driving at highway speeds, are an extreme risk to my life and the life of others and are unacceptable for a vehicle with 45,000 miles.

When slowing down in traffic or approaching a stop sign vehicle will stall then turn off. This will than cause the vehicle to abruptly stop. Emergency brake is then engaged. It takes 1-3 times to engage vehicle to restart using the push start button. This happens with in 2-4 blocks of a cold start or even after 15 minutes or more of driving. This vehicle has been in the Dodge dealer several times with them not able to duplicate problem. This happens several times a month. Have been told by dealer it does NOT show a "code" for them to locate problem. When vehicle stalls it puts emergency brake on and alternator light comes on. After vehicle is re started you must pull over and turn vehicle off for few minutes to get alternator light to turn off. Volume of gas in tank seems to have NO bearing on when this vehicle stalls. This vehicle stalling happens more frequently when outside temperature is 50° and above. Happens more frequently with warmer temperatures

Etorque and battery failure. Etorque was failing and coldbrook Mitsubishi said it was fine. 2 months later brought to Lee dodge/ram and told etorque bearing gone. By now 80k manufacturer warranty over 80k and not warranted despite me telling them before this mileage. This etorque should be recalled and paid for. This truck has been nothing but problems. My truck had safety recall 24V-729 done to fix a turn signal that will not shut off. Since the recall I have had to have the same problem fixed an additional two times. The dealership will not classify it under the recall and have charged me for the repairs. They say that it is not the SCCM, which the recall says is the issue. My problem is that the turn signal has been fixed 3 times total.

Got out of the truck went in the store and other establishment . Was inside for maybe 5 mins . The truck was certainly turned off, windows up. When i came back out to the truck i opened the door and it was full of smoke and the armrest / center storage bin was molten and so hot it had melted the two pieces . I had a couple bottles of water in the truck and was able to put it out but had burned my left hand in the process . Once i was sure it was extinguished i moved it away from parked cars to an empty lot to prevent anothe possible fire from damaging other vehicles . I then had it towed to Bob Caldwell on Morse road in Columbus Ohio. This was on Saturday july 11th . Still no adjuster put to the vehicle since filing my insurance claim. It’s Thursday July 16th now .

While driving a 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel (37,000 miles) at highway speeds while towing a load on an incline grade, the vehicle experienced a sudden, uncommanded drop into an aggressive "Limp Mode." The dashboard displayed a "Service Electronic Throttle" warning, and engine power was immediately and severely restricted. While I was able to safely move the vehicle over to the shoulder, the truck completely lost the power required to maintain highway speed, increase speed, or clear the incline grade. A diagnostic scan revealed code P00AF (Turbocharger Boost Control Module Performance). After sitting for several minutes the limp mode cleared and was able to drive off as normal, however the limp mode condition returned in only a few miles. Due to the hazard of driving significantly below the highway speed limit while towing, the code had to be manually cleared to temporarily restore throttle response and safely complete the drive. The vehicle is experiencing an intermittent electronic or mechanical breakdown within the boost control system that causes an unpredictable risk of sudden power loss during highway operation. This condition has presented on 3 separate occurrences throughout the Summer of 2026. Each time manually clearing the code makes the truck operate normally until the next intermittent occurrence.

To whom it may concern, I am the owner of a 2023 Ram 1500, VIN: [XXX] ], currently located in American Samoa. My vehicle has an open safety recall (Recall # [75B/NHTSA 24V-653 & A1B/NHTSA 24V-729). As you are aware, American Samoa is a U.S. Territory; however, there are no authorized Chrysler, Jeep, or Ram dealerships within the territory to perform the required safety repairs. Because this is a safety-related recall on a U.S. Market vehicle, I am requesting an "Out-of-Area" remedy. Specifically, I am requesting that Stellantis: Authorize a local independent repair facility (such as Samoa Motors in Tafuna) to perform the recall repair. Coordinate the shipment of necessary parts and technical instructions to said facility. Provide a direct payment or a guaranteed reimbursement authorization for the labor costs associated with this repair. If a local repair is not possible, please provide instructions on how Stellantis intends to fulfill its legal obligation to remedy this safety defect in this U.S. Territory, including any provisions for vehicle transport to the nearest authorized dealer (Hawaii). The uconnect 4 system that controls everything on the vehicle will randomly reboot while being driven, disabling safety systems like reverse cameras during the reboot, and leaving the UI for uconnect incomplete after restart is completed so vehicle settings are not available until vehicle has been turned off for over 10 minutes. I believe that this is due to bugged wifi drivers since it seems to reboot when it tries to connect to android auto. I have video of a reboot showing my truck in reverse for exponentially longer than the required two seconds for the camera to come on but it is too large to upload here.

While driving, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of electrical voltage. Multiple warning messages appeared, and several vehicle systems disabled while the vehicle was in motion. Power and safety features malfunctioned, and the parking brake engaged unexpectedly. The vehicle became unsafe to operate while driving. The failure required towing and a battery replacement to restore drivability. The battery failure occurred as part of an active charging system malfunction, not a no-start condition. This event created a serious safety risk to the driver and others on the roadway due to loss of vehicle control and disabled safety systems

Suspect faulty EPS module / rack and pinion. Was driving down the road, went to make a right turn and my steering wheel went stiff / hard, the "Power Steering Unavailable" light popped up on the dash, and I had to crank my wheel to the right as hard as I could to avoid scraping the person waiting to turn left in front of me! I ensured my battery has proper voltage, checked the fuse, and ensured power was going to the rack and pinion. I tried removing the negative cable on the battery to "reset" the system, but no change. I own a 2023 Ram 1500 Limited 4x4 with approximately 53,000 miles. The truck has had no issues for the first 40,000 miles and then developed a noise and vibration coming from the front end that is present at all speeds. I took it to Jerry Ulm Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Tampa, FL. They kept my truck for 14 days and replaced the axle, stub shaft, wheel hub and bearing assembly. The truck was returned to me with the exact same noise and vibration — the repair did not fix the problem. After getting my truck back, the service advisor communicated to me in writing that the technician said there is no permanent fix for this issue and that he sees it all the time on Ram trucks. This is a written admission from an authorized Ram dealership technician that this is a known, widespread defect with no solution. This vehicle is still within the 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Stellantis/Ram has been notified via formal complaint. I am filing this report because if the dealership's own technician is saying this is common across Ram trucks and there is no permanent fix, this needs to be on record with NHTSA. Other Ram 1500 owners may be experiencing the same issue and not know it is a known defect. Dealer: Jerry Ulm Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Tampa, FL Service contact: William Usewick

I was hoping the with me buying a brand new Ram that I would not have a major issue such as the fuel pump failing which caused me to pay $1809.64 out of pocket cost on a practically new vehicle. The fuel pump and the control module were both faulty with the dealer findings. With only 1000 miles over warranty, I think that this does not make since for such a major issue with a practically new vehicle that is not cover under the powertrain warranty. The vehicle has been taken in for regular maintenance. I would appreciate a refund of the amount paid to cover my loss

The issue stems from misaligned striker plates that can cause the tailgate to unlatch.

They replaced the right rear caliper and EPB actuator and it temporarily fixed it. The lights still came on but would go off in rainy conditions. They came back on and didn’t go off so I brought it back to the dealership in again on 3/2/2026. First said they would fix the same part now after having my truck for 2 weeks claim it’s not the parking brake actuator but the main wiring harness and refuse to fix it under warranty of their work. I am now told by them they have to replace the entire wiring harness on my expense. Called customer support at ram truck and still haven’t heard back if they would do anything

My 2023 Ram 1500 TRX has recurring safety-related failures of the infotainment system affecting both Uconnect 5 (12” screen) and earlier Uconnect 4 units. These issues are widespread in 2021–2024 Ram TRX and Ram 1500 models and began or worsened after forced over-the-air updates. The primary defect is screen failures while driving. When the screen goes black or freezes, the truck loses all functions controlled through the display, including HVAC/defrost, backup camera, vehicle settings, seat controls, and performance gauges. This creates an immediate safety hazard: I cannot adjust climate/defrost, cannot see the required rear-view camera when shifting to reverse, and cannot access key vehicle information. Owners across multiple years consistently report: • Black screens, freezes, and reboots • Loss of HVAC control and dual-zone functions • Backup camera not displaying • Vehicle/Apps tabs failing to open • Uconnect error messages • Smaller, harder-to-read gauges after updates • Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto failures • No option to decline or roll back OTA updates These failures distract the driver, remove access to federally required equipment (rear camera), and eliminate visibility and climate controls that directly affect safe operation. The system becomes unpredictable and unstable despite the vehicle being in motion. My vehicle experiences the same issues, including a frozen screen while driving, loss of HVAC, camera not available, etc. Because this affects essential safety-related controls and visibility, I believe this is a safety defect in Ram/Stellantis Uconnect 4 and Uconnect 5 systems. I request NHTSA open a defect investigation and require Ram to correct these failures.

The Connected Services system in my 2023 Ram TRX regularly displays large, full-screen alerts for emergency vehicles, tow trucks, and lane closures — often when there is no actual hazard present. These alerts are extremely distracting and dangerous. They: Block the entire screen, hiding navigation, camera, and HVAC controls and leaving the screen black until the user interacts with it multiple times to put it back on navigation. Require multiple presses to clear, forcing interaction while driving. Often reactivate within seconds, creating a loop of screen interference. Have triggered during merging, construction zones, heavy traffic, and when passing emergency vehicles or tow trucks, where focus is critical and lives are at risk. Occur falsely 80%+ of the time — no hazard is nearby. Cannot be disabled, according to Stellantis. These alerts violate basic safety interface principles by forcing unnecessary, repeated interaction in active driving conditions, forcing distracted driving. The system is overly aggressive, not user-configurable, and poses a significant distraction risk. Numerous owners on Ram forums have reported similar experiences, including repeated false triggers in the same areas. I am requesting NHTSA investigate this system. Stellantis should be required to: Offer a toggle to disable or limit alert pop-ups. Redesign the alerts to be non-obstructive and passive, or limit them to actual verified hazards. Until addressed, this is a serious safety issue affecting many drivers. I have video evidence of the issue occurring that I can provide.

In two separate instances, after coming to a stop while driving (traffic light/stop sign) when attempting to accelerate the engine revved but car did not move. The car remained in the “run” position and the emergency parking brake engaged. Similarly the display alerted that safety parking brake was activated. Vehicle would not shift out of drive. Issue was remedied by turning engine off and then back on and disengaging the parking brake. This does not happen every time I stop the car and has happened only twice in the past 100 miles.

My 2023 Ram was previously inspected under Recall A1B and the recall was marked complete because the vehicle passed the inspection. The condition covered by the recall later developed, and the turn signal is no longer properly self-canceling. This creates a safety concern because a turn signal that remains activated after completing a turn can give other drivers incorrect information about the vehicle’s intended direction and increase the risk of a collision. The issue has been confirmed by the dealership, and the vehicle is scheduled for repair. The repair is being processed through my extended warranty, which requires me to pay a deductible. The vehicle can be made available for inspection if needed. To my knowledge, it has not been separately inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. My concern is that the vehicle passed the recall inspection and the recall was closed, but the same safety-related condition later occurred. I do not believe I should be responsible for a deductible for a condition covered by a federal safety recall. I am also concerned about inspection-only recall remedies in general. If a vehicle passes an inspection but the known safety defect later develops, the customer should not become financially responsible simply because the recall was previously marked complete.

The vehicle has always had an issue with turn signal canceling the left hand turn probably fails 30/40% of the time. There was a recall on this but requires a diagnostic to be performed. This has been completed twice and didn’t fail, but service writer and tech both witnessed it not working during driving test. Problem is StarParts won’t send parts to dealer because it passes their diagnostic. After complaints to dealer now StarParts wants to run test a third time the dealer and I agree the outcome will be the same. I sent email to StarParts regional manager ([name removed]) twice and he refuses to respond. Basically the issue is they confirm it does not function properly but they won’t repair it because it passes their diagnostics. I have been trying to get this repaired since December

Fortunately, the sunroof was closed and the inside cover was in the closed position so that glass did not cover me or the interior of the vehicle. This was a two lane highway and had I not had the sunroof covering in the closed position it could have resulted in a serious accident.

Since it ‘passed’ the recall was closed. I will have to pay out of pocket ($1,099) to replace. The component is the clock spring. According to dealer’s diagnosis: Air Bag - Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Clock Spring Not retracting turn signal lever back to position This assembly consists of a clock spring, which is a coil that retracts and expands inside its housing as the steering wheel turns. Its function is to maintain electrical continuity for all the components on the drivers airbag.

On [XXX], while driving my 2023 Ram TRX, the driver’s side axle shaft failed catastrophically. Before the failure, I heard noise from the axle area, but no warning lights or indicators appeared. When the axle shaft broke, it damaged the brake line, causing immediate brake failure, putting my safety and others at risk. Had this occurred at high speeds or in traffic, the consequences could have been severe. I had the vehicle towed to I-10 Dodge Ram for inspection, where Service Advisor [name removed] denied the warranty claim. The denial was based on a superficial bumper scrape and minor scuff marks on suspension components, claiming these as “impact points.” However, these cosmetic markings do not justify axle failure, as no significant structural damage was found. An axle shaft should not fail due to a bumper scrape. This axle failure is a known issue in the TRX owner community, and many dealerships have acknowledged and approved warranty claims for similar failures. Despite this, I-10 Dodge is refusing warranty coverage without sufficient evidence, attempting to shift blame onto the customer. The failed axle shaft and damaged brake line are available for inspection. The issue has not been reviewed by law enforcement or an insurance representative, as this was a mechanical failure, not a collision. Given the serious safety risk of axle and brake failure, I urge Ram and NHTSA to investigate this widespread problem before it leads to serious injuries or fatalities. The issue concerns the steering column control module, when the turn signal is used or activate the turn signal self-canceling feature may not function properly. Either issue can cause confusion or reduce visibility for other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash. I have asked the dealer to fix the issue but have told me they have been out of stock of the part and I have been waiting over 6 months for the fix with no resolution.

The back passenger window behind the driver shattered while I was in the vehicle. Window shattered from inside out no previous damage to the window , all of sudden it shattered. May daughter’s car seat is on that side luckily she was not hurt because she wasn’t in the vehicle at the time. But to think that she could have been because I was , I had just parked and the window directly behind me sounded like it exploded. RAM manufacturer does not want to take responsibility for this safety issue that is 100% a safety concern.

My 2023 Ram 1500 TRX has recurring safety-related failures of the infotainment system affecting the Uconnect 5. These issues are widespread in 2022–2024 Ram TRX models and began or worsened after forced over-the-air updates. The primary defect is black-screen failures while driving. When the screen goes black or freezes, the truck loses all functions controlled through the display, including HVAC/defrost, backup camera, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and settings, vehicle settings, seat controls, and performance gauges. This creates an immediate safety hazard: I cannot adjust climate/defrost, cannot see the required rear-view camera when shifting to reverse, and cannot access key vehicle information. Owners across multiple years consistently report: • Black screens, freezes, and reboots • Loss of HVAC control and dual-zone functions • Backup camera not displaying • Vehicle/Apps tabs failing to open • Uconnect error messages • Smaller, harder-to-read gauges after updates • Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto failures • No option to decline or roll back OTA updates • Unresponsive screen These failures distract the driver, remove access to federally required equipment (rear camera), and eliminate visibility and climate controls that directly affect safe operation. The system becomes unpredictable and unstable despite the vehicle being in motion. My vehicle experiences the same issues, including: system rebooting, unresponsive screen, loss of vital vehicle health data and performance gauges, backup camera not displaying] Because this affects essential safety-related controls and visibility, I believe this is a safety defect in Ram/Stellantis Uconnect 5 systems. I request NHTSA open a defect investigation and require Ram to correct these failures.
