Price & value
We don't guess at prices. Get a real value for the exact truck from Kelley Blue Book, then see how the asking price compares.
Is it a good deal?
- Look up the truck on Kelley Blue Book. Choose its cab, trim, options, miles, condition and your ZIP code, and note the private party value (or the fair purchase price if you're buying from a dealer).
- Enter that value and the asking price below.
Enter both numbers to see the deal rating.
The rating only compares the two numbers you enter: within 5% of the value is a good deal, 5–15% under is a great deal, and more than 15% under is a buy-it-now price. Know Your Truck isn't affiliated with Kelley Blue Book. Rust, accident history, lifts and mods, and service records all change what a truck is worth, so always get a pre-purchase inspection.

1. I am being told that the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) catastrophically seized and locked up internally while driving. Because the HPFP on the 3.0L Duramax (LM2) engine is directly driven by the engine's timing system, this sudden mechanical seizure instantly destroyed the engine timing gears and snapped/skipped the timing chain. The failed components are currently intact inside the vehicle and are fully available for inspection upon request at Ron's Smith GMC in Merced, CA. 2. The failure occurred on busy Labor Day (XXX) while our family of [XXX] was traveling back home at 70 mph on a major highway. The truck violently shook, instantly lost all engine power, and forced the vehicle into a dangerous limp-mode state before completely stalling in live highway traffic at night around 10:45 pm. This sudden loss of propulsion at high speed severely compromised our ability to safely navigate out of the way of fast-moving highway traffic, creating an immediate & extreme risk of a high-speed rear-end collision. At times hazard lights didn't work causing family panic & screaming as truck shook with passing traffic. 3. The problem has been officially confirmed by Ron Smith GMC in Merced, CA. Their service department diagnosed the issue, confirming that the high-pressure fuel pump had locked up and subsequently destroyed the timing belt/chain & engine gears. 4. The vehicle and its failed components have only been inspected by technicians at the Ron Smith GMC dealership service department. No police, insurance representatives, or outside third parties have inspected the vehicle yet. 5. I had been extremely happy with my truck and there were absolutely no warning lamps, dashboard messages, or driving symptoms prior to the failure. The truck was operating perfectly normally under cruise until the exact moment of the failure, at which point a "Reduced Engine Power" warning flashed on the dashboard simultaneously with the mechanical lock-up, shaking, and immediate stall. Received Re-Call for Engine Failure! Dealer replaced Engine Oil and Oil Cap @ 85,544 Miles. I read of the Re-call prior to the notice and I waited for it to come. After I received it and the Dealer made the changes, it made me afraid to leave town using my truck for fear of a breakdown on the Freeway. I use a Walker, so if I broke down and I was in the left lane and lost all power it would be very dangerous for me to get to the right side of the road! The truck started using excessive Oil after they changed the oil. I replaced four (4) quarts of oil @ 2526 miles! Speedometer reading 88070 miles.

There is an known issue with the coolant control valve that causes the truck to enter "limp mode" that dangerously reduces the engine power. The part is not recalled but there is a special extended warranty, N252508341, up to 15yrs or 150,000 miles for 2021-2022 GMC 1500 trucks but my VIN is excluded from this for some reason. I would like this investigated.

The transmission overheats on this vehicle shutting the vehicle into “limp mode” this is extremely dangerous when at interstate/highway speeds and the vehicle slows it self down to a dangerously low speed and all other vehicles around are traveling at a high rate of speed, this has happened twice, it has also happened while in back roads and tractor trailers have had to swerve to avoid a collision.

I own a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 with the 3.0L Duramax diesel. The vehicle developed severe transmission problems, including harsh/jerky shifting and a hard clunk when shifting into reverse. The vehicle was subsequently diagnosed with an internal transmission failure. The repair facility informed me that the transmission gears had failed and caused damage to the transmission and stated that the failure appeared to be related to a manufacturing issue. The repair facility also advised me to watch for a future recall because they believed this could be a widespread issue occurring in other vehicles. I am submitting this complaint so the failure can be documented and considered along with other reports of transmission failures involving this vehicle.NOTE FROM AUTOSHOP:TRANSMISSION FAILURE WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURE DESIGN FLAW, NOT DUE TO THE CUSTOMER'S DRIVING HABITS. I am submitting supplemental evidence regarding my 2021 GMC Sierra (VIN [XXX]) for Recall Query RQ26001, Campaign 25V-274. Despite multiple repair attempts, my vehicle remains unsafe and non-compliant with GM Service Bulletin N252494002. The recall remedy was performed deficiently. [XXX] Northeast Buick GMC installed a remanufactured short block instead of the required complete engine, reused the original seized-engine oil pan (which continues to leak), and failed to address critical electrical damage. Documentation proves they deleted Labor Operation 14BUZ (Engine Electrical) after their technician noted a blown mega fuse. A second dealer, Penske Chevrolet, subsequently deleted Labor Operation 77CVZ01 from my repair order, demonstrating a systemic pattern of ignoring recall-required repairs. Electrical damage has cascaded, resulting in a burnt fuse block and active faults P0615, P0617, P26E4, P26E6, U0623, and U0284. More critically, within 24 miles of my last service, the vehicle developed a new, severe safety failure: the "Service Brake Pad Monitor" system failed, accompanied by a red "Service System" dashboard alert and a noticeably spongy brake pedal. These brakes were recently serviced, yet this failure introduces a new risk of crash not present prior to the recall "remedy." GM Executive Resolution Case XXX has provided no resolution, reimbursement, or safety assurance, ignoring all deadlines since XXX. I possess extensive documentation, including service orders showing deleted labor operations and diagnostic logs. I request this update be integrated into the investigation of RQ26001, as the current remedy is demonstrably ineffective and has exacerbated safety hazards. The manufacturer’s refusal to remediate these issues, despite my compliance, leaves me with an unsafe vehicle and significant financial loss. I am prepared to provide all supporting records to substantiate this complaint. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The engine coolant control valve on my 2021 GMC Sierra 3.0L Duramax diesel failed. This specific component failure triggers an active vehicle 'No-Restart' safety event during automatic engine stop/start operations (per GM Service Bulletin #24-NA-070). This condition can suddenly prevent the vehicle from restarting when stopped at intersections or in active traffic, creating an immediate highway safety hazard and leaving the vehicle stranded. Additionally, the vehicle's radiator cooling fans run continuously at 100% maximum capacity as a system fail-safe, creating severe electrical drain. General Motors has issued a Special Coverage Adjustment (#N252508341) acknowledging the high failure rate of this part, but it is capped at 150,000 miles. Because this defect causes unexpected stalling/no-start safety risks in live traffic past this arbitrary mileage limit, a formal safety recall is required.

When I put the vehicle in park, the dash warning says it is not in park or shift to park. The components continue to work. I have taken it to the dealership and according to the service manger, this is a very common occurrence in these trucks. This seems to me that it would be a very serious safety issue if one assumes their vehicle is in park and it is actually not. The shift to park warning is a safety warning to alert the driver it is not in park so the vehicle doesn’t roll off and hit someone (especially a child playing in the driveway). Assuming that alert is just a malfunction could get someone killed. I did notice that this was considered a safety recall for some models of GMC vehicles but not others. I’m not sure why there hasn’t been a recall on these trucks when the service manager specifically said they are having this issue on a lot of trucks.

The problem is in the power-locking manual tailgate’s exterior release switch assembly. Water intrusion into the switch can cause a short circuit, leading the tailgate to unlatch while the truck is in Park. Once moving, momentum and air pressure can cause the tailgate to open further, potentially dumping cargo onto the road and creating a hazard.

On [XXX], my vehicle suffered a complete loss of propulsion on the highway, displaying fault codes P0324 and P0016. The vehicle was taken to Boyd's Tar Heel Chevrolet in Roxboro, NC, where the engine block was replaced under the official GM 6.2L engine safety recall. The truck was delivered back to me, and on the very first day I drove it—only 28 miles from my house—it suffered a secondary catastrophic loss of propulsion on the highway on [XXX]. The check engine light began flashing violently, indicating an immediate catalyst-damaging safety hazard, and the vehicle displayed fault code P0307 (Cylinder 7 Misfire). The dealership explicitly instructed me to stop driving the vehicle immediately, authorized the recovery, and told me to bill the tow directly to them. After towing the vehicle back to their facility, Boyd's Tar Heel Chevrolet reversed their position. They are now attempting to hold me financially responsible for the towing fees, along with spark plugs, wiring, and fuel injector services, claiming the failure is due to routine maintenance. This represents a severe highway safety hazard, a direct failure of the manufacturer's official recall remedy, and potential dealer misconduct to avoid liability under the active NHTSA Engineering Analysis EA26005 for post-recall 6.2L engine failures. Vehicle: 2021 GMC Sierra SLT | VIN: [XXX] Dealership: Carl Black GMC Roswell, GA (11225 Alpharetta Hwy, 30076) | Invoice #[XXX] | Service Date: [XXX] Paragraph 1 – Suspension Hazard: Dealership diagnosed a worn left upper ball joint (popping sound on left turns) and installed Rough Country aftermarket upper control arms on my stock-height Sierra SLT. These arms are designed for lifted suspension and alter factory caster/camber geometry, placing extreme stress on ball joints. This can cause sudden ball joint separation, wheel collapse, and total loss of steering control at speed. The dealership admitted on the invoice they "could not find branding" on original parts and chose non-OEM lift components without my consent or any safety disclosure. Paragraph 2 – Brake Failure & No Safety Warning: The same service included a full front/rear brake job (pads + resurfaced rotors) using their certified technicians and parts. After pickup, the brakes failed to operate properly. When I returned, the service manager refused to correct their own workmanship and instead quoted $1,900 to repair the very brakes they just serviced. Most critically, at vehicle pickup they issued no written or verbal safety warning—no "do not drive" instruction—despite the brakes being knowingly compromised, endangering me and the public. Paragraph 3 – Requested Action: The service manager was unprofessional, condescending, and refused accountability. My truck will not start when I press the push-button ignition. After waiting a few seconds and trying multiple times, it typically starts on the third attempt. Additionally, it will not restart after the auto stop feature activates at stop signs or traffic lights. This is very concerning, especially when pulling into oncoming traffic, as I’m worried the truck could shut off while I’m crossing. I have already had the battery, starter, and alternator checked, and all components tested fine. However, the issue is still occurring. There are also no warning lights or messages displayed on the dashboard.

The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while her son was driving 55 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to slow down as intended. The driver attempted to use the parking brake to slow the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to slow down. The message “Braking System Failure” was displayed. The driver pulled over to the side of the road, and the passenger’s side front wheel detached and started leaning to the right before the vehicle came to a stop. The driver exited to inspect the vehicle and became aware that the front passenger’s side wheel was lying on the ground. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed. The vehicle was then towed to another dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the passenger’s side upper and lower control arms, ball joints, rack and pinion, brake rotor and pads, hub, outer tie rod, brake line, speed wheel sensor, wheel and tire, and suspension parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 77,000.

Left rear parking brake actuator malfunction. The truck would brake unexpectedly. The brake would not completely release at times. Took it to the dealer on June 6, 2024 and they replaced the rear rotors and pads. I asked them if the parking brake actuator was faulty and may have caused the premature wear. They laughed and said no, it wasn't possible. On Aug 7, 2024 I returned the truck to the dealer with the fault codes C1114 & C060B caused by a failure of the parking brake actuator. It was impossible to use the emergency brakes when the codes were present. For several months after the repair, brake faults would appear and disappear randomly. Took it to the dealer, and they found nothing wrong. Electric-actuated emergency brakes should be illegal.

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 has an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) that bolts on to the rear calipers. The EPB does not release, in order for service, you have to long press the parking brake, then the truck goes into service mode & will release the brakes for service, some newer models may not have this feature. The vehicle has 36,000 miles on it & the inside rear brake rotors are worn down from the EPB dragging & not releasing as supposed to, causing excessive premature wear & that could cause a safety hazard fleet wide. The EPB should not be in use while the vehicle is moving, but it is coded to not release, meaning whenever you press the brake it never moves back out away from the rotor, causing drag & or even can cause warping of the rotor. I do not understand the thought process in regards to not letting the EPB release, it acts like the screw type caliper that would have the same issues of every time it moves out it will not go in until taken apart & screwed in, again meaning the brake pad is constantly dragging on the rotor which could in turn also affect the miles per gallon. I see the thought process to use EPB as useful but not a good execution by the manufacturer.

Their response is that 18 vehicles experienced this problem and the resolution was to clean the front windshield and update the camera software. This truck has had the camera replaced and software updated three times by two different dealerships. GM is now stating they are unwilling to resolve the problem any further and they would no longer send any Field Engineers to investigate the problem. I have numerous photos, videos and repair logs from with the problem and resolutions performed. Nature of problem: At night, the indicator button for selecting the Lane Departure Warning will go out. If the button is depressed, a message in the DIC indicates Lane Departure Warning Unavailable and there is no way to activate the LDW. It also causes the Intellibeam headlamps to not work. I purchased my vehicle new in 2021 and the vehicle did not have the option of having safety features at the time of purchase. I find not having the safety features in a large vehicle to be a safety concern for those that use the vehicle or around the vehicle. Now my vehicle is throwing a bunch of different transmission error codes, that it has never produced , and it is going into reduced power mode,as I’m driving and going into limp mode as I’m driving, which you never has done before And it feels like it’s stuttering in early gears now and the idle was really rough it didn’t idle at a specific spot it went from 800 to 1300 back down to 800 when it should’ve just been idle at 800. I don’t know what to do. It seems like this recall made the problem worse for me and my truck in this case, I don’t know what to do and I don’t know where to go. I hope you guys can help us. Please make GMC take responsibility Before somebody gets killed. If they haven’t already this issue is extremely DANGEROUS AND I’M SURE IS DESTROYING THE TRANSMISSION. I don’t feel comfortable driving my family in my vehicle anymore because of this issue it is terrifying….

The engine coolant flow control valve position sensor is faulty. I brought mt truck in to my dealership and I have been waiting for over a month to get the issue fixed because “the part is on backorder”. This issue makes my truck sound like a jet engine because it makes the truck think overheating and causes the fan to come on at full blast. After drivinf for awhile it goes into “ reduced engine power mode” which is totally unsafe because it reduces the horse power to that of a lawn mower. It takes about 30 seconds to get from 0-60, so merging onto freeways or in conditions where you need extra speed its completely useless and increases the scenario of being rear ended, immensely.

A small drip started approximately 18 months ago from top middle of left side window in rear slider. It was first mistaken as blow by from car wash. Leaking slowly progressed to dripping down middle of both side windows in rear sliders. Leaking progressed to drops coming from under headliner then dropping on side portions of rear slider. It then would drip onto seat or behind seats. Leakage was consistent with TSB 18-NA-383 as well as 20-NA-142 and 24-NA-103. In discussing with dealership, they recommended likely microfractures and sealant process called for in bulletins would likely resolve matter. As due diligence, spoke with independent glass shop to confirm. Glass shop indicated would not know until physically checked cracks/source of leak and looked for damage but based upon photos it appeared to be several frame fractures consistent with bulletins. I arranged rear slider replacement through independent shop. Upon pulling OEM slider, numerous stress cracks and fractures were noted. These included stain marks from water intrusion. Photos included showing original leaking as well as sample of cracks in original OEM plastic frame portion.

My rear electric window is leaking into my back seat area and the ceiling of the truck has water stains. It is coming from the roof and is leaking in 3 different areas. I am afraid I will now have mold in my car and I can’t have my grandchildren in the car to be safe for them. I had it checked at a local GMC dealer and I had to pay for a leak speacialist to verify and they confirmed the window has a leak. The leak started in April 2025 and has slowly gotten worse. The dealership said I will need to replace my back window to fix the issue and gave me an estimate of $1,100 and said my extended warranty will not cover this issue.

I don't believe this needs to have an investigation, but i would like it documented and brought to GM's attention for future body designs. I have never had as many rocks/debris hit my windshield as I have with this truck. I have had one chip in a windshield in 30+ years of driving, until this truck where I have had several that needed repairs, and this last one has created a Crack large enough where my windshield needs replaced. It may be bad luck, but I've talked to multiple other Sierra owners and most of them have had the same issue. A couple have had the windshield replaced almost yearly. Please at minimum inform GM engineers to possibly determine the cause (I assume aerodynamics) so they can incorporate the flaw (if there really is one) into future designs. The photo I included happened almost immediately after the impact. The crack has grown several inches since as expected.

2021 GMC Sierra AT4, VIN [XXX] , NHTSA Campaign 25V-274, GM Case XXX. Brake pad monitor failed at 128,923 miles -- 24 miles after leaving Penske Chevrolet (released at 128,899, RO XXX, 04/17/2026). Brakes became spongy immediately following service. Monitor disabled entirely to stop recurring red Service System alert. Root cause is a burnt fuse block ground fault confirmed in writing by two GM-authorized dealers. Ray Skillman (RO XXX, 06/05/2025) documented the fault then deleted Labor Operation 14BUZ ENGINE ELECTRICAL from the recall repair work order. Penske documented verbatim: "all of these other faults share this same ground circuit." The recall repair at Ray Skillman used a remanufactured short block instead of a complete engine per N252494002. The original seized-engine oil pan has never been replaced across three dealerships and 128,000 miles. GM's own Part 573 filing states this defect "increases the risk of a crash." I drove 300 miles on an interstate on 04/22/2026 with active brake warning and no loaner because GM Executive Resolution refused to authorize one. Three GM dealers have inspected this vehicle. GM Executive Resolution Team [XXX] ) has not returned calls or emails and has not confirmed in writing this vehicle is safe to operate. OnStar issued a Critical Alert for P0617 on 04/15/2026. Zero brake faults existed in the 13 months prior to the Penske visit. I am writing to complain about that General Motors has issued a retrofit program for 2022 model vehicles that did not come with safety features due to the microchip shortage. I purchased my vehicle new in 2021 and the vehicle did not have the option of having safety features at the time of purchase. I find not having the safety features in a large vehicle to be a safety concern for those that use the vehicle or around the vehicle. General Motors should add the 2021 model vehicles that also did not have the ability to have those features on them added as a part of their retrofit program.

I received a GM message through the vehicle report application stating that my airbag system malfunctioned and I needed to take the vehicle to a service department for repair as soon as possible. This crash was a total loss of the GMC Sierra, this was how hard the vehicle was hit. Why did the airbag system smoke? Why did the airbags not deploy? Why did I receive a Malfunctioning Airbag system message from GMC? 5 days after purchasing and While driving down the interstate at 80 mph, there was a loud clunk at the same time the back wheels locked up for a split second, long enough to burn the tires and throw everyone in the vehicle forward then the vehicle continued on. It happened three more times, we trailered it and brought it to the dealer. They said nothing is wrong with it. However, I was able to locate the previous owners who stated they'd been bringing it to several dealerships to have it taken care of for the past six months and every dealer said that nothing is wrong with it. But the same thing happened to them for six months. One mechanic in Idaho even replaced the motor trying to fix it and it still continued. The dealer I purchased from never mentioned it having a new motor, and I pulled the Carfax report and it shows several times it was in the shop including the motor replacement, but the shop visits aren't detailed it just says maintenance. Several mechanics we've spoken with say it's in the transmission, drivetrain. But the dealer refuses to do anything unless it'll replicate when they test drive it. But they don't test drive it on the highway or for a long enough time. Multiple owners now in multiple states the same problem and no one will help. This could be a catastrophic incident if the roads had been a little wet or someone was close enough behind us when it happened it would have been a serious car accident, if not worse.

Tires are LT275/65R20. While driving on interstate at approximately the speed limit and low 80 degree temperatures in South Carolina with proper placard pressure tire inflation checked two days prior, the truck developed a faint vibration which got worse over three or four miles. I slowed my speed and pulled over at next offramp and visually inspected truck for signs of vibration. Including looking over tires. It seemed like a drive line issue, however truck is a 2021 model with only 38,000 miles. After I could not find anything out of place I got back on the interstate to see if problems still existed. I was only traveling at 45 mph and vibration was getting worse, so I tried to slow and make it to next offramp when the driver side tire blew out causing me to have to quickly react to prevent having an accident. The tire tread and multiple parts of the truck inner fender guards and liner were thrown out into traffic and truck bed side is badly damaged. Prior to blow out there were no warnings on the dash board to to indicate any sort of issue and I verified tire pressures when I stopped after the vibration initially set in. The TPMS system was working properly at the time of the blowout. I have the tire if further inspection is warranted. My safety was at risk when tire blew out on the interstate along with vehicles traveling around me to avoid hitting the flying debris and tire tread. Further this was driver side tire and I had to change the tire on the side of the interstate with traffic right beside my vehicle. I called GMC and they said they would do nothing to help because they see tires as a maintenance item and truck is out of warranty period. I am a mechanical engineer having worked many years for major tire company as a tire design engineer. I am very familiar with load ratings, tire wear, life expectancies, and I believe theis tires failed prematurely. I bought this truck new and have always had tires properly inflated a never overloaded.

I noticed a sway in the vehicle while driving down the highway, bad enough to pull over and check the tires and suspension. Took truck to dealer where upon inspection I was told that the cause was the tires' sidewalls are not stiff enough and the tires try to follow the grooves in the road. The dealer recommended changing the tires but had to defer to General Motors who denied the tire change under warranty. GM informed me that this is a normal condition of the tires on roads that have grooves cut in and would not be covered under warranty. I explained that I do not feel safe towing a trailer behind this truck and was told that they could not replace the tires but offered me multiple options for my trouble including: Onstar, service voucher which cannot be used on tires, accessory voucher which cannot be used on tires, and a wheel and tire protection plan which would not cover the issue at hand. I declined all of the offers as my only concern is having a truck that is safe to tow a trailer behind and new tires are required in order for me to have that. The truck is designed to be able to tow a trailer and I am too concerned to tow behind my brand new truck because the truck would induce a sway into the trailer posing a significant safety risk to myself and other motorists on the road. If this is a known issue, which it seems to be, then General Motors should not include these tires on trucks sold in markets with grooved pavement to reduce the risk of accidents resulting in injury or even death. I shouldn't have to spend an additional $1200+ on new tires for a vehicle that was less than a month old when I took it into the dealership.

This repair is over $1000.00

REACHED FOR A FALLEN OBJECT BETWEEN THE DRIVER AND MIDDLE FRONT SEAT AND THERE IS A RAZOR SHARP PIECE THAT TOOK A LARGE CHUNK OUT OF THE HAND WHICH CAUSED HEAVY BLEEDING AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND JUST TRIED TO RETRIEVE FALLEN OBJECT BETWEEN THE SEATS. THE INCREDIBLY SHARP PARTS NEED TO BE CUT OR REMOVED FROM THIS AND OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES OR COVERED WITH SOMETHING. IT WAS BARE METAL EXPOSED OUT WITH SHARP EDGES THAT CUT THE RIGHT HAND SO BADLY.
