Price & value

We don't guess at prices. Get a real value for the exact truck from Kelley Blue Book, then see how the asking price compares.

Is it a good deal?

  1. Look up the truck on Kelley Blue Book. Choose its cab, trim, options, miles, condition and your ZIP code, and note the private party value (or the fair purchase price if you're buying from a dealer).
  2. Enter that value and the asking price below.
Check value on Kelley Blue Book ↗

Enter both numbers to see the deal rating.

The rating only compares the two numbers you enter: within 5% of the value is a good deal, 5–15% under is a great deal, and more than 15% under is a buy-it-now price. Know Your Truck isn't affiliated with Kelley Blue Book. Rust, accident history, lifts and mods, and service records all change what a truck is worth, so always get a pre-purchase inspection.

The left-side or right-side roof rail air bag (RRAB) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator or the inflator sidewall may rupture.

Risk: A detached end cap or inflator rupture can allow compressed gas to escape and project the end cap or fragments of the inflator into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.

Fix: Dealers will replace both RRAB modules, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 9, 2026. Owners may contact GMC customer service at [phone removed] or Chevrolet customer service at [phone removed]. GM's number for this recall is N262569920. Additionally, the contact stated that the engine lifters and camshaft were previously replaced. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The traction control warning light was intermittently illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by phone and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was referred to a dealer to determine whether the failures were associated with a recall for coverage consideration. The contact stated that a coworker's vehicle experienced an identical transmission failure, and a transmission specialist diagnosed that issue as a torque converter failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

The catastrophic power failure with no warning on my 2017 GMC Sierra, at 87450 miles completely contaminated the engine oil cooling lines with metallic debris and fractured structural mounts. The servicing dealership replaced the transmission but is refusing to remediate the engine line contamination without out-of pocket payment. The vehicle cannot be safely operated without causing terminal engine failure on the highway, creating a imminent mechanical and traffic safety hazard.

After 38,000 miles and 8 years of normal service (mix of city, highway, and 10% towing), my 8L90 transmission began to shudder occasionally. The problem first became apparent when driving slightly uphill, on cruise control at about 50 mph, or while slightly accelerating on a flat road, with no load in the box, and no trailer. It felt like I was driving across a rough patch of asphalt or rumble strips. Every half mile or so, it would shudder. Slowing down or speeding up stopped the rumble. The problem proved not to be caused by tires, U-joints, or AFM. The problem in fact was caused by defective GM transmission fluid, which was sold as "sealed for life", and rated for 200,000 miles, as factory-installed. That proved to be BS. If not repaired, this problem would lead to transmission lockup and/or lack of propulsion, which could contribute to a vehicle crash. The problem was solved by installing AMSOIL Signature Series Fuel-Efficient 100% Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid, Product Code: ATLTP-CA. If GM properly cared for their customers, to make up for false advertising at the time of purchase, GM should publish and pay for GM Service Bulletin #20-NA-142, for all 8L90 owners, instructing owners to replace their transmission fluid every 5 years or 40,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle started losing motive power. The accelerator pedal was depressed and the engine revved; however, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over, and after several attempts, the vehicle restarted. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to a local dealer and failed to exceed 10 MPH. The dealer was able to diagnose the vehicle and determined that the torque converter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle started vibrating and stalled. The contact stated that again, there were no warning lights. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove the vehicle back to the same dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the fuel injectors failed, and the contact had taken the vehicle to a different dealer. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but was difficult to depress. The contact allowed the vehicle to coast and was able to pull off the road. The contact slowed down to approximately 2 MPH and was able to use the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was turned off and restarted to reset the braking functionality. I was test driving this 2017 Sierra 1500 SLT and experienced issues while braking. Issues with brakes as the vacuum level drops the brake assist decreases which meant I had to use excessive force to get the vehicle to stop. No warning light, nothing to tell me there is a low pressure brake. This could result in a fatality if a small animal or child walks/runs in front of the truck while truck is moving forward or backwards at low speeds. The dealer doesn’t acknowledge any recall on this vehicle because it isn’t noted as such with GM. I worry that all of the other recalls (4 others) may be an issue too, which include Frontal Airbags not deploying during an accident, faulty wheel sensor causes opposite wheel to engage and cause the vehicle to pull to one side, fuel leak, and child seat anchoring restraint instructions not included in the owners manual.

I pulled into a parking space at the store and it was like I had no Brakes had to push pedal very hard and Thank god there wasn’t a car in front of me because I would have hit it. The truck has new front and back Brakes and Rotors put. The truck was throwing some codes and 3 out of the 4 codes pointed to faulty Vacume pump. I pull a camper and sometimes a side x side so this is very concerning and I hoping to get this expense covered by Recall like all the other Models with the same issues. I really don’t know why my truck isn’t being Recalled. This has been a good truck for me no complaints tell this.

I had an engine rebuilt completed on my L86 2017 GMC 6.2. After the repair, the engine failed due to the crank shaft on the engine being oversized which is the same problem that GM is having with the L87 engines. When the crank was ordered from the dealer for my L86, the only part number for the crank that was available was the new part number that was being used in the L87. Seems the same cranks were used in both engines and this recall on the L87 should be extended to anyone that had a rebuilt complete. Me and my family were left on the side of the road for a few hours which endangered our lives. The problem was determined by an independent service center and was fixed by the purchase of new parts and aftermarket bearings for the crank to allow the oil to enter the crank properly. There were no warning signs. Was driving down the road, started to hear a noise and then the engine started to over heat so that is when I stopped and called a wrecker.

I drive this vehicle on higher speed roads to work everyday. Roads also used by large tractor trailers and like larger vehicles. I was told by dealer that I had broken exhaust manifold studs at a previous oil change. While driving the truck it seemed to lose power for a short time but I was in traffic and assumed the loss of power at that time was related to a possible exhaust leak.I scheduled a appointment to have the repairs addressed. When I picked up the vehicle I was told that there was a ticking noise in the top of the motor. They stated it was the lifters and needed to be repaired for $7136 dollars. I researched the problem and found out how big of an issue this is specifically for the owners of the 6.2l (L86) engine. Highly concerned I schedule the repair and dropped the vehicle off. Shortly after the dealer called and stated the vehicle had bent push rod collapsed lifters damage to the cylinder head, camshaft and worn camshaft bearings now cost are $14350 or replace engine for $17000. I chose to replace top end. The next day I was called back and was told the bearing on the cam journals were down to brass and I would need new engine. Cost in just 24 hours not are $22000. This vehicle was maintained by this dealer also for all fluid changes. The belief is all the failures were related to the active fuel management system. (going from 8 to 4 cylinders ).

The rear window on my 2017 GMC Sierra shattered unexpectedly without any impact. The vehicle had been remote started in very cold weather and the rear window glass suddenly shattered while the truck was parked. There was no rock strike or external damage that would explain the failure. I later learned about GM Customer Satisfaction Program N192265660 regarding rear window defroster thermal events affecting certain 2014–2019 GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado trucks. Based on the sudden failure and the conditions at the time, this appears consistent with that issue. The Auto Rear Defog feature in the vehicle settings was turned off, however the truck had been started using the remote start feature when the glass shattered. Photos of the shattered window are available. I am submitting this report because the rear window defroster system may cause the glass to overheat and shatter unexpectedly.

While the 2017 GMC Sierra was warming up via remote start, I noticed a smell of smoke as I walked by the passenger side of the truck. Then I heard a loud bang as I was walking around the rear of the truck. As I entered the truck from the driver's door I saw the back window, passenger side, shattered. The vehicle was then turned off. According to our dealership the vehicle was looked at under recall N192265660 and deemed safe in May of 2020. A call was placed to GM who said the recall expired in 2022. An offer was made by for payment assistance by the GM representative but could not say how much until we pay the dealership for a diagnostic. This is a know issue by GM. The location of the shattered window is situated inches behind where my child's head would have been had she been in the vehicle. The smell of smoke is extremely concerning because where there's smoke there's fire.

Started my truck to go to the store. When me and my son got in we could smell like hot plastic burning. Figured someone was burning trash so we proceeded to the store. About a mile down the road it sounded like someone fired a gun inside the cab of the truck. So being a combat veteran it triggered me! I instantly swung for the back seat thinking someone was back there and noticed the rear sliding window on the drivers side had blown and shattered. I found a recall online that gm had put out about this specific issue happening. So when I called Varney Gmc of Bangor Maine. The vehicle would shudder when trying to accelerate. I almost was hit by a semi truck trying to merge onto the freeway. Made an appointment with the mechanic then a couple days later I was at a stop sign and the vehicle would not accelerate at all. I placed in park the tried shifting back into drive and still nothing. I had to turn the vehicle on and off twice before I was able to shift it in drive an it actully would accelerate. Even then it would shudder and not accelerate fully. Very dangerous. Just hit 100k miles. GMC Certified Mechanic said the transmission is shot and needs to be replaced. Cost to replace over $6,000.00 Bought the truck in 2020 for $35,500 and just paid it off.

Fully enclosed LED tail light (turn and brake integrated into 1 LED "strip") with no visible moisture ingress/egress system showing retained moisture and no longer functional. Dash light for "rear signal brake light failure" appears. This rear light unit is NOT serviceable or repairable when a light goes out and is fully sealed aside from the reverse light (incandescent bulb and functions fine). LED's should have a lifespan that outlives the vehicle and a major incentive to have LED integration with lighting is the lifespan and reduced need for service. Now the taillight and brake light stop working and can not be fixed without spending <$500 per side. This is a safety issue that seems to be closely related to the issues with the GMC Yukon's of the same generation.

This complaint is about the automatic extending/retracting foot steps on my GMC Sierra. The step is supposed to extend outwards when the door is opened and retract back under the truck when the door is closed. Instead, when the door is opened the step extends and at random will retract back inwards. Aside from being annoying this is actually dangerous as the other day i was exiting my truck with one foot on the step and the other reaching down to the ground when the step started retracting. The foot on the step was pulled under the truck and got stuck in the step. This threw me off balance and the other foot hit the ground at an angle and twisted my ankle. I called a local gmc dealership about it and they said they have seen a lot of trucks come in lately with the same issue and would have to replace the entire step for $1800. I brought it to an independent shop and they cleaned and greased the hinges so it happens less often now but it is still a problem. There are no warning lights or messages on the vehicle. It will also extend and retract at random when the truck is parked and off. This began happening around March of this year.

On Friday, December 6, 2024, my “check engine light” illuminated on my 2017 GMC Sierra pickup. The engine is the gasoline version of the 5.3 liter. I took my truck to Brogden Buick/GMC in Olathe, KS. They informed me the trouble code was 219a, indicating there was a problem with the fuel/air ratio. On Monday, December 9, 2024, I was contacted and informed the fuel injectors needed to be replaced at a cost of approx. $2700. Based upon research I’ve conducted GM’s fuel injectors have been a service concern since approximately 2014. Service bulletin DCS5097 (N182198000-Special Coverage Engine Fuel Injector) was issued on July 26, 2019 that included my engine configuration. However, this particular bulletin does not appear to cover my Kansas based vehicle. I just had my vehicle at Brogden for a previous check engine light two weeks ago. This required replacing the fuel cell pressure sensor at just over $700. These repairs seem to be related. I’m reading that 2023 and 2024 Chevrolet and GMC trucks are also having fuel injector issues. This seems to be an ongoing problem that GM does not appear to be appropriately addressing. My truck is relatively low mileage with only 58,786 miles. It has never towed, is garage kept and is maintained in a pristine condition. I’ve never experienced fuel injector issues any any previously owned vehicle .

Vehicle has a hard shift in the lower gears. I have been told by GM authorized dealers and garages that the official suggestion from GM is a transmission flush, and that this may not resolve the issue. This service usually runs around $350+, and is not reimbursed at all or in part by the manufacturer. This has caused tire spin in parking lots and low speed situations (like crosswalks), and only seems to be getting worse as time goes on. This seems to be a widespread issue, with a large number of consumers reporting the same issue, and really seems to be a manufacturer defect

Dear Sir, I currently own a 2017 GMC Denali that had a potentially catastrophic failure with one of the alloy wheels that are on my vehicle. Mileage about 110,000 I recently went to have new tires installed on my vehicles when the tire shop manager came from the work area and said that he could not put a new tire on my one wheels. The reason the tire store could not put a tire on that wheel is because two of the spokes on the alloy wheel were broken. There were three spokes between the broken spokes. The are 12 spokes on the wheel and the two broken spokes were non adjoining. They were not next to each other. There were good spokes between the broken spokes. With a close inspection of the wheel there is no scuffing or impact damage to the wheel either on the outside of the wheel or the inside that would cause this failure. The spokes just cracked. The fact that the two broken spokes are not next to each other would seem to indicate that this was a manufacturing defect. I am writing to go on record of this failure of the alloy wheel on my truck. If someone would like to inspect the wheel, please contact me to arrange for a time to look at it. I have attached pictures of the wheel with the broken spokes. Regards, [XXX] You can see the cracked spokes at the 12:00 and 7:00 position on the wheel towards the center of the wheel. Randomly all electronics shut down engine stalls and lane assists wont let me turn wheel while driving in road. Normally at slow speeds. Get random warning lights that go away after seconds. When I activate a window switch all the electronics turn off and on. This happens randomly. No codes have been left to pull up when trying to solve issue. Twice with children in the car in traffic that we have almost got in a wreck due to these random issues.
