Price & value

We don't guess at prices. Get a real value for the exact truck from Kelley Blue Book, then see how the asking price compares.

Is it a good deal?

  1. Look up the truck on Kelley Blue Book. Choose its cab, trim, options, miles, condition and your ZIP code, and note the private party value (or the fair purchase price if you're buying from a dealer).
  2. Enter that value and the asking price below.
Check value on Kelley Blue Book ↗

Enter both numbers to see the deal rating.

The rating only compares the two numbers you enter: within 5% of the value is a good deal, 5–15% under is a great deal, and more than 15% under is a buy-it-now price. Know Your Truck isn't affiliated with Kelley Blue Book. Rust, accident history, lifts and mods, and service records all change what a truck is worth, so always get a pre-purchase inspection.

I was driving home climbing a hill in the slight rain when the check engine light came on. I drove with the light on to get to the next closest city about 2 minutes out from where the light came on. The engine was running rough and shaking the car and was having issues stopping at a light before I could pull into a parking lot. I pulled into the parking lot, my book said that it was a misfire and to let the engine cool off so I sat for about 2 hours, checked fluids then started the car. the ticking noise was there but there were no lights on my dash at the time and assumed it could make it home after I let it idle for 5 minutes. I proceeded to get on the road and the vehicle did ok. I got on the freeway to get home, slowly let the car climb to 50 and kept it there. 1 minute later the whole dash glowed saying everything was not working and giving special pop-ups on the dash explaining the VSA, ABS, and electronic power steering were not working to name a few. I stopped the car and pulled over immediately and called for a tow. I took it to my local electric shop to see because the brakes still worked and they said that it was possibly the ECM, that they couldn't fix it, and the ticking was a heatshield, and to take it to the dealer. I then towed it to the dealer. The Honda techs said that they didn't know what was wrong because the car wasn't throwing any codes. They replaced the tailgate harness that the previous dealer I took it to didn't and said to replace the pully and tensioner before they drove and diagnosed it further. I had it towed to another shop to get those replaced. This shop listed some of the same fault codes as the first shop and when they tested the vehicle they had called me to come in and inspect the vehicle as they started it after it was at the dealer and told me it was an engine knock and that the engine would need to be replaced with the drive shaft. I called Honda's corporate office and they took my complaint and documented it only.

    • Filed Sep 2026

I own a 2017 Honda Ridgeline with approximately 128,000 miles. In late August 2026, I noticed a deep knocking noise coming from the engine shortly after an oil change. The knocking increased with engine RPM and continued even after the engine warmed up. The oil level appeared full, and there was no oil-pressure warning light. I brought the vehicle to Liberty Honda in Connecticut for diagnosis. Their technician investigated the noise, identified it as internal connecting-rod knock, and determined that the engine requires complete replacement. The dealership quoted approximately $19,210 plus tax for the repair. I have driven approximately 40,000 miles since purchasing this vehicle and have consistently maintained it. Oil changes were performed at Valvoline approximately every 3,000–5,000 miles using their premium oil service. Routine maintenance was performed by an independent mechanic, while major repairs were handled by Honda dealerships. The timing belt was serviced at approximately 84,000 miles. I am concerned because Honda previously recalled certain 2017 Ridgelines for connecting-rod-bearing defects, and NHTSA has separately investigated similar failures in 2017–2019 Ridgelines outside the original recall population. My vehicle has experienced the same type of failure being investigated This condition presents a serious safety concern because connecting-rod-bearing failure can cause sudden engine failure and loss of power while driving. I have avoided further driving because of this risk. American Honda denied my request for goodwill assistance toward engine replacement. I am reporting this failure so NHTSA can evaluate it alongside similar complaints.

He told me that the car was getting ready to have catastrophic engine failure and was going to need a new engine. I was going to drive to the parking lot next door and leave the car to have it towed back to my house and it died as i was tuning into the lot. It was dangerous as it died where there was traffic passing by and i had to push the car out of traffic. To Whom It May Concern: I am submitting this complaint to report what I believe to be a potential safety-related defect in my Honda vehicle, as well as an unresolved dispute with American Honda regarding responsibility for resulting damage. Recently, I was informed by my case manager at American Honda that my claim had been closed and that Honda would not cover the necessary repairs. When I requested an opportunity to escalate the matter, I was told that no escalation was available. I am seeking NHTSA’s review because the circumstances involve component failures that may affect vehicle emissions, performance, and potentially safety. The fuel injectors in my vehicle failed, this failure caused the catalytic converter to become damaged, andHonda accepted responsibility for the faulty fuel injectors. Honda has refused to cover the damage to the catalytic converter. Because the catalytic converter failure was reportedly caused by faulty fuel injectors—components for which Honda accepted responsibility—I believe the manufacturer should cover all resulting damage, regardless of warranty status. I request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration: Investigate whether similar fuel injector failures are occurring in Honda vehicles. Review whether these failures are causing catalytic converter or other engine damage. Determine whether the manufacturer is appropriately addressing these failures.

All the warning lights came on. I took the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis. They told me that the problem was the fuel injectors. The vehicle only has 40,000 miles. They said there was a factory problem with the programming in the ECU and they are aware of the problem. They have issued an extended warranty for this. They now refuse to honor the warranty because my title is a salvage title. A salvage title has nothing to do with their faulty programming. They now want to charge me $1,300.00 to have them fix it. The vehicle is at the dealer now waiting for a remedy 12/5/2025. I think this could be dangerous if it is not repaired. The engine could stall or fail while on the road.

My vehicle has less than 95k miles on it. Purchased it brand new from the dealer in 2016. It was one of the first few Ridgelines in the state. I've always had it serviced on time at the dealer, and kept up with its maintenance and care. The engine started to fail out of nowhere - making a weird tapping/knocking noise. I made an appointment to have it checked out by the dealership, and that same day my check engine light came on while I was on the freeway going 70mph. It began shaking at an idle. I got off the freeway, and parked. I was afraid to turn the car back on. The check engine light listed off numerous warnings of failed systems. Since my appointment wasn't until the next day, I left my car near the dealership overnight, instead of driving it back home for fear of causing an accident, or having my engine overheat or explode. I brought it to the dealership the next day, and they confirmed that I had a fuel injector issue, consistent with a known issue, for which I had an extended warranty letter re: the MIL warnings. However, they also noted a possible connection rod issue in the engine, and said the engine would have to be completely replaced or rebuilt. I have read and heard from many other people with a 2017 Honda Ridgeline that they have experienced this issue with their engines failing well before they should - at 90k miles, 140k miles, etc. There is a known issue with many of the 2017 Honda Ridgelines - and a recall did occur, but my VIN says my vehicle is not part of this recall - however, clearly my engine had the problem that Honda was aware of. My whole family was in the car when the check engine light came on, and the sound got worse - we could have been injured in an accident on the freeway, or had the engine overheat/explode while we were in the car. The issue was reproduced and confirmed by the dealer service center, and has been inspected by them. No warnings or symptoms before the failure - just complete shutdown out of nowhere.

Bought this vehicle in December 2025 used from a dealership. After about a month, I started hearing a noise coming from behind the steering wheel inside the dashboard area. Being that it was a new car to us. We weren’t sure if the noise was problematic so we didn’t take it in right away. The noise started getting worse after a few months and we brought it in. The mechanic couldn’t find the reason for the noise however did notice that there was metal in the oil and heard a knocking that was abnormal in the engine. After some investigation, we discovered that 2017 Honda Ridge lines were known for connecting rod, bearing failures, and many of the vehicles were under recall. We checked the VIN number of our vehicle and were told that this was not under this warranty. We called Honda Customer Care to talk to them about the fact that this problem seem to be the same problem as the service bulletin problem. We asked if they could cover the cost of the repair. They suggested we needed to have it diagnosed by a Honda dealership. We brought it to the Honda dealership who told told us that it would cost $1000 out-of-pocket to be able to diagnose this problem properly. We now have a car that potentially has a extremely dangerous and potentially catastrophic engine problem with premature deterioration and failure of the crankshaft connecting rod bearings that we are afraid to drive and we don’t have the money to fix. When doing research it suggests that there are at least 1.4 million vehicles that are under investigation for the possibility of having the problem that is addressed by the recall, and many of these vehicles are still having this engine failure and we think ours may be one of these. We have not seen any engine warning lights yet however, the mechanic suggested that it is premature crankshaft connecting rod bearing failure as evidenced by the amount of metals showing up in the oil. We just recently replaced the oil in early June (less than 2,000 miles ago).

I was driving on a two lane highway and did three individual passes of slower vehicles, after the third pass my transmission lost its mind and started banging into gear then going into neutral, I had to feather the accelerator all the way home. Got it home a few miles later and had it towed to my dealership, was told the trans is shot, there was metal debris in the fluid. Having the trans replaced made the most sense since my truck is in really good shape (knock on wood) otherwise. Honda adjusted the cost under Goodwill which I appreciate but the cost should’ve been lowered much more and increase the warranty for others with this trans. People think Hondas are bombproof but then we’re blindsided by this huge repair and people don’t know what they’re getting into by buying these used when used car dealers can really take advantage knowing this fatal flaw exists and knowing most shoppers won’t know and will trust that it’ll be fine being a Honda product.

My 2017 honda Ridgeline started making loud noises coming from the engine. I took it to autozone and they used there diagnostic tool and all that came up was an issue with the oxygen getting into the fuel due to an issue with the fuel injector. On my way home it stopped running as I was making a turn. Mechanic confirmed engine failure. I did research and typed my vin into Kelly blue book recall section and 7 recalls came up, including the engine. But when I called Honda they said only 2 recalls were associated with my VIN.I take good care of my truck and there is not reason why my engine would fail unless there was an issue with manufacturing, or one of the other recalls caused the engine to fail. I purchased my truck for $30k a few years ago and I can’t afford for it to completely inoperable and am certain the engine seized because of a manufacturing issue.

      - Door actuators - specifically back door actuators. Both back door actuators are failing, one almost never works (sometimes locks, never unlocks) and the other one is more sporadic. The front passenger door also went a week a few months ago that it was not consistently working. - Safety - 1- the actuators inconsistently work and either leave the car unsecured while moving/parked. 2- because the doors at times only manually lock my 3 year old can open the door. I have changed the side of the car I have her car seat on so I can reach behind me if it does not lock. 3- A younger kid cannot unlock the doors because they are much harder to push after they malfunctioned. Sometimes they become completely jammed and I have to push on it really hard while operating the handle... it is challenging for an adult, let alone a child. I really can't live with not fixing them as my kids would be trapped in an emergency situation. - Yes, dealer confirmed it was the actuator, but could only get back passenger door to fail during the visit. - No, just the dealer who gave me a quote to fix it. Quote was for almost $800 for both back doors, plus $80 to "diagnose" what I already told them which was the actuators did not work. I have it scheduled to be replaced for half that price at a different shop next week. This seemed like a crazy price to not have my kids trapped in the car. This sounds like a common issue in forums and since both of mine have failed (plus maybe the front passenger door too) it doesn't seem like bad luck of 1 part. - No I am not exactly sure when it started. I think the back passenger door has been awhile, my auto-start stopped working but the door awhile ago and I think this was the reason. I didn't realize it until last summer when I went to open the door when someone opened my door when I knew the truck was locked.

I was in line waiting for a pick up order when all of a sudden my ridgeline just stopped - engine kicked off - no warning lights came on ahead of this incident - there were no noises from the truck beforehand - no early indication that something like this was going to happen - thank G.. I was in line at MacDonald's and not on the highway. Engine just seized. I have taken my ridgeline to Honda - and they have said that they can't figure out why this happened - surprised for a ridgeline with 100,000 miles - it's been serviced at appropriate times. There were some recalls on it, but not one that would cause this issue - however , we did see if the NHTSA site that many 2017 ridgelines are being recalls due to manufacturing errors - we feel that honda should assume some responsibility.

After arriving home and turning off the vehicle, there was a lot of flickering of the lights and clicking noises in the engine. The dash displayed all emergency startup lights and performed the following message on the dash, "Keyless Start System Error." I took it to the dealer who ran a diagnostic, and provided me the diagnostic paperwork showing 4 codes in the Security, Power Control Unit, Mode Menu, Lighting, Keyless Transmitter, Gauges, and door locks. The dealer confirmed that this was in no relation to the recent recall of the Ridgeline Keyless Start System Error with DTC B12C5 and that the Keyless System Main Control Unit failed, part number 38320-T6Z-A21. I had to replace the unit and am now out of pocket quite a bit of money. I have reported the issue to Honda directly and hoping a refund will be provided. I am the original owner of this 2017 Honda Ridgeline RTS 2WD model and have only 34, 358 miles on it. Never had I experienced any electrical issues and furthermore I shouldn't have them for a five year old truck with less than 35k on it. I was lucky that I was not driving, or it could have been worse possibly. The dealer kept the defective component and was able to identify the issue and repair it quickly. No other issues had ever occurred on this truck and this was random.

SOMETIMES THOSE TRUCKS ARE WITHIN FOUR CAR LENGTHS AT 60 MPH CAN YOU HELP OR DO WE NEED TO BECOME ANOTHER STATISTIC BEFORE ANYTHING IS DONE ! THIS TECHNOLOGY HAS BEEN DEVELOPED TO FAST WITHOUT TESTING IT TO ITS FULLEST ABILITY NOW THERE'S NO WAY TO DIAGNOSE IT. THIS STARTED THE WEEK I BOUGHT IT NEW IN MAY 2017

Blind Spot warning system failure. Could not find cause, so took it to the dealer and they determined it was a shorted wires within the wiring harness that leads to the tailgate. This is the same wiring harness that has the backup camera wires, which are also problematic. Apparently within the last month or so, you announced an investigation into this issue for 2017 and 2018 Ridgelines. Dealer is Luther Brookdale Honda in Brooklyn Center, MN. I paid $114.11 for a diagnostic.

AT APPROXIMATELY 59K +/- THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM AND BLIND SPOT SYSTEM LIGHT ON MY 2017 HONDA RIDGELINE CAME ON AND WENT OFF WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED. THIS PHENOMENON WAS REPEATED TWICE BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AT 61K +/-. THE COMPLAINT WAS NOTED, CHECKED, AND AFTER A $998.19 SERVICE BILL, NO PROBLEMS OR FAULTS COULD BE LOCATED. AT 62K +/- BOTH WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE RIDGELINE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER. AT THAT TIME I WAS INFORMED THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND HONDA REFUSED TO MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY. THIS FLAW IS KNOWN TO HONDA AND HAS BEEN CORRECTED IN LATER MODELS. PROSPECTIVE BUYERS SHOULD BE WARNED ABOUT THE FAULT SO THIS MODEL RIDGELINE CAN BE AVOIDED. FINALLY, CONSUMERS SHOULD BE AWARE THAT HONDA REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS.

THE CAR HAS COLLISION AVOIDANCE BREAKING BUT I NOTICED A TIME WHEN A COLLISION WAS NOT GOING TO OCCUR AND THE BREAKS WERE APPLIED WITHOUT ME ACTUALLY APPLYING THE BREAKS. I COULD HAVE BEEN REARENDED IF THERE WAS A CAR BEHIND BE BECAUSE THERE WAS NO NEED TO BREAK. A CAR WAS A FEW HUNDRED FEET IN FRONT OF ME TURNING RIGHT AT AN INTERSECTION IN MY LANE, AND THEN I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 35MPH AND GOING STRAIGHT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THE CAR HAD COMPLETED ITS TURN IN FRONT OF ME AND AS I APPROACHED WHERE THE CAR WAS, IT APPLIED THE BREAKS AS IF THE CAR WAS STILL THERE BUT IT HAD PREVIOUSLY CLEARED THE LANE BY 5 SECONDS OR SO. THERE WAS NO NEED TO BREAK AND CAUSED ME TO BE TO POTENTIALLY BE HARMED BY THAT BREAKING ACTION. THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 15MPH BEFORE ALLOWING ME TO CONTINUE.

AT AROUND 30K MILES THE CAR BEGAN TO MAKE A THUMPING SOUND FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND PASSING OVER ANY UNEVEN SURFACE ON THE ROAD. THE SOUND SEEMS TO HAPPEN ONLY WHEN THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL HITS A BUMP AND NOT THE RIGHT WHEEL. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALER TWICE AND THEY STATED THEY COULD NOT HEAR THE NOISE OR RECREATE IT AND THAT ALL COMPONENTS WHERE WORKING CORRECTLY. I EVEN ROAD WITH THE TECH TO SHOW THEM THE SOUND AND THEY REPORTED AFTERWARDS THAT THE SOUNDS WAS GONE WHEN THEY TEST DROVE IT 4 TIMES BEFORE I PICKED IT UP. DRIVING OUT FROM THE DEALER, THE SOUND WAS STILL THERE. THEY TOLD ME TO LET IT GET WORSE SO THEY CAN FIND IT EASIER AND DIAGNOSE IT. THE NOISE CAN BE HEARD ESPECIALLY WHEN PASSING OVER CONSECUTIVE AND SMALL BUMPS. THE CAR NOW SOUNDS LIKE AN OLD CAR WITH STRUCTURAL DAMAGE.

TRUCK HAS A VERY NOTICEABLE CLUNKING SOUND IN FRONT OF VEHICLE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. SOUND STARTED AROUND 1500 MILES. DEALER SAID IS WAS MOST LIKELY THE BRAKE PADS AS THERE IS A TSB OUT. THEY DIDN'T BOTHER TO CHECK AND SEE IF THE STRUTS WERE DEFECTIVE. THIS NEW TRUCK SOUNDS LIKE IT HAS 100,000 MILES ON IT. I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE WITH THESE TYPES OF NOISES COMING FROM THE SUSPENSION/BRAKES.

Seat release handle is defective and breaks due to product design. Poor quality plastic material can not withstand tension from metal cable when actuated and a plastic component breaks inside the component of the seat lever causing seat to be locked in place which could potentially trap a child or the seat can not lock and stay in unlocked position and the seat will not flip up and rest in a lock position. Which is also a hazard because seat is not secured and will flop around. Honda does not sell the plastic part separately they are gouging the consumer by charging $477.92 for a replacement kit when the only part needed is a $10 plastic handle, which can easily be switched out by consumer. Average dealer cost to replace is $799 for the repair. Contacted Honda they will not sell plastic handle separately and are aware at the issue with their product.
