What owners should know
Covers 2023–2026 · 2.7L turbo four · Updated 2026-10-05
The third-generation Colorado and Canyon arrived for 2023 with one engine, a 2.7L turbo four-cylinder, and an 8-speed automatic.
We counted 584 owner complaints filed with NHTSA for 2023–2026 Colorados and Canyons (retrieved October 5, 2026; each complaint counted once). None had a VIN belonging to another vehicle; 2 had no usable VIN. 2024 has the most (329), mostly because of one problem on the GMC Canyon. Complaint counts show what owners report most often, not how many trucks have a problem.
At a glance
- Flickering headlights on 2024 Canyons: 154 complaints and a recall.
- Emergency braking that can engage for no reason on 2023 trucks (recalled).
- Coolant leaks at the upper radiator hose.
Headlights
About 170 complaints mention headlights or flickering, and 154 of them are from 2024 GMC Canyons (identified by VIN). GMC recalled 2024 Canyons for it (24V673000). Colorados have very few headlight complaints.
Emergency braking and driver aids
About 50 complaints describe the truck braking on its own with nothing in the way or mention automatic emergency braking, 29 of them from 2023 trucks. GM recalled certain 2023 trucks because the front camera could falsely detect an obstacle (24V133000). About 40 complaints mention lane-keeping.
Coolant leaks
About 55 complaints mention coolant, antifreeze, the radiator hose or code P3075. GM's bulletin PIT6494 says the seal inside the upper radiator hose's quick-connect fitting can wear out and replaces the hose. On ColoradoFans, owners report the fix works but the part was on backorder for a while.
Recalls to check
- Fuel pump lock ring that may not be fully locked on some 2024 trucks (24V491000)
- Front wheel hub bolts that may be damaged on some 2023 trucks (24V237000)
- Seat belt buckle bolts that may be loose on some 2023–2024 trucks (24V703000)
Before you buy
- Check open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls with the VIN, and ask a dealer which factory warranty coverage is left for this VIN; it depends on when the truck was first sold and its mileage.
- Check the coolant level and look for dried coolant around the top of the radiator.
- Bring our used truck inspection checklist.

Coolant leak at the upper radiator hose
Dealer jobSigns: Low coolant, a coolant smell or drips at the top of the radiator, and a check engine light with code P3075 (coolant flow too low).
Fix: Confirm where the coolant is coming from first. GM's bulletin PIT6494 says the seal inside the upper radiator hose's quick-connect fitting can wear and leak, and the fix is a new upper radiator hose; it also says that if code P3075 is set but there's no sign of a leak, the dealer should follow the normal diagnosis instead. Ask a dealer whether this VIN is still within factory warranty.
Headlights flicker (2024 GMC Canyon)
Dealer jobSigns: Headlights that flicker while driving or parked.
Fix: Covered by a GMC recall for 2024 Canyons. Recalls cover only specific trucks, so check this VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if it's included and whether the repair was done.
May be covered free by recall 24V673000. Check the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Automatic emergency braking engages for no reason (2023)
Dealer jobSigns: The truck brakes hard on its own when there's nothing in the way.
Fix: Covered by a GM recall for certain 2023 trucks whose front camera could falsely detect an obstacle. If the VIN isn't covered or it still happens after the recall, have the dealer check the camera and its calibration. Recalls cover only specific trucks, so check this VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if it's included and whether the repair was done.
