2024–2026 Tesla Cybertruck common problems and fixes

2024 trucks have most of the complaints. The top problem is a failed power conversion system that stops home charging, followed by driver-assist braking and steering complaints, and recalls for the accelerator pedal, drive inverter and stainless roof-edge trim (cant rail) that can come loose.

What owners should know

Covers 2024–2026 · Electric (two or three motors) · Updated 2026-10-06

The Cybertruck is Tesla's stainless-steel electric pickup, with two motors or, in the Cyberbeast, three, and steer-by-wire steering with rear-wheel steering.

We counted 206 owner complaints filed with NHTSA for 2024–2026 Cybertrucks (retrieved October 5, 2026; each complaint counted once), all from trucks whose VIN shows an electric drivetrain; no complaints had a VIN belonging to another vehicle. 2024 has 174 of them. Complaint counts show what owners report most often, not how many trucks have a problem.

At a glance

  • Charging problems are the most reported: about 50 complaints mention charging or the power conversion system.
  • About 45 complaints mention driver-assist features (Autopilot, Full Self-Driving or cruise control) or the truck braking or steering on its own.
  • Several recalls on certain 2024 trucks, including the accelerator pedal, drive inverter, wipers and roof-edge trim.

Charging

About 50 complaints mention charging or the power conversion system, 43 of them from 2024 trucks. Owners describe the power conversion system (PCS) failing with an "AC Charging Unavailable" alert, which stops home charging so the truck can only use Superchargers. On Cybertruck Owners Club, owners report Tesla replacing the unit under warranty, with waits for parts.

Driver assist and steering

About 45 complaints mention Autopilot, Full Self-Driving or cruise control, or describe the truck braking or steering on its own, and about 25 mention the steering.

Recalls to check

  • Windshield wiper motor controller that can fail on certain 2024 trucks (24V456000)
  • Bed trim (sail applique) that can loosen on certain 2024 trucks (24V457000)

  • Stainless roof-edge trim (cant rail) that can separate on 2024–2025 trucks built November 13, 2023 to February 27, 2025 (25V170000)
  • Service-installed off-road light bar that can come loose on 2024 trucks that have the accessory (25V735000)
  • Brake rotor stud holes that can crack on certain 2024–2026 trucks with 18-inch steel wheels (26V255000)

Before you buy

  • Check open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls with the VIN, and ask a dealer which factory warranty coverage is left for this VIN; it depends on when the truck was first sold and its mileage.
  • Plug into a home (Level 2) charger and make sure it charges.
  • Look along the roof edges for lifting stainless trim, and check that any accessory light bar is firmly attached.
  • Bring our used truck inspection checklist.

Common failures & how to fix them

Parts and video buttons search for your 2024-2026 Tesla Cybertruck. Always confirm a part fits using your VIN. Brakes, steering, fuel and airbag work affects your safety, so if you're not sure, have a qualified mechanic do it.

  • Power conversion system failure: "AC Charging Unavailable"

    Dealer job

Signs: An "AC Charging Unavailable" alert (often with PCS2 error codes), home charging that stops or slows down, so the truck can only use Superchargers.

Fix: Have Tesla Service run diagnostics first; a charger, cable or home wiring fault can also stop AC charging. If the power conversion system is confirmed failed, Tesla replaces the unit; ask Tesla whether this VIN is still within warranty. On Cybertruck Owners Club, owners report waiting for parts and getting free Supercharging in the meantime.

  • Stainless trim along the roof edge (cant rail) can come loose (2024–2025)

    Dealer job

Signs: A new noise inside the cab, or the stainless panel along the roof edge lifting or separating. Tesla estimated about 1% of the recalled trucks have the defect.

Fix: Recall 25V170000 covers 2024–2025 trucks built November 13, 2023 to February 27, 2025: Tesla replaces the cant rail assembly free. Check the VIN, because the VINs aren't in one range.

  • Service-installed off-road light bar can come loose (2024)

    Dealer job

Signs: The accessory light bar on the windshield loosening or coming off.

Fix: Recall 25V735000 covers 2024 trucks with the off-road light bar installed by Tesla Service: Tesla inspects it and adds a mechanical attachment or replaces it, free. Trucks without this accessory aren't affected.

  • Accelerator pedal pad can come off (early 2024)

    Dealer job

Signs: The pad on the accelerator pedal slides off and can trap the pedal pressed down.

Fix: Covered by Tesla recall 24V276000 on certain 2024 trucks: Tesla Service replaces or repairs the accelerator pedal assembly. Recalls cover only specific trucks, so check this VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if it's included and whether the repair was done.
